Leavers and Weddings

The end of the summer term always brings the sadness of seeing some colleagues leave for pastures new but with the excitement for them of new challenges that lie ahead. Tony Mugarza has been with us covering both maths and science lessons [and much more] for a year and has shown great commitment as a supply teacher in attending parents’ evenings and planning and marking work without any fuss and with great professionalism. Tony will be working with our friends at Holy Family in Thornton next term. Josh Jones has covered Adele Booth’s maternity period in music and has really stepped up to the mark as a young NQT not just in his teaching but as the sole music teacher and he has taken on responsibility for exam classes, ensuring enough students choose music to maintain exam classes and organising peripatetic support and extra-curricular activities. This is usually the role of an experienced subject leader and I thank Josh for his smashing efforts this year. I’m pleased to tell you that he has found a new job up in Barrow and we all wish him well.

Karen Connell joined us in December 2016 as an NQT and she quickly showed great skill and talent in her teaching, bringing an academic scientific approach to Food Technology and a flair for practical teaching that has seen the numbers of students opting for the subject rise hugely. She deserves great credit for these achievements in such a short time and we quickly made her a subject leader. Sadly Karen has decided to return to her first love and will begin studying for her Master’s degree next term. Good luck Karen, we all know that you will be very successful in your chosen future path.

Janet Rimmer joined Cop in January 2001 and she may not be well known to students and parents because she is involved behind the scenes in the office next to mine! However without her many of the organisational aspects of our school that seem to run so smoothly such as Reward’s Evenings, Open Evenings, the time-table and actually ensuring that all of our staff get paid wouldn’t happen. Janet began as a TA before moving into admin and then becoming the PA to the Head/SLT. The day to day cover for absent colleagues, the adverts for new staff, the police checks, the census, the pay contracts-I could go on for ever-all are vital areas of expertise that Janet has and that we will have to replace and I assure you that won’t be easy. She has also given many hours voluntarily to supporting shows and concerts either serving refreshments or helping back-stage or on the door and is the first port of call for staff ringing into school when perhaps different tragedies or unhappy events have to be reported and covered and supporting colleagues at such times requires great people skills that come with years of experience and we will miss those too.

Janet won’t be lost to us forever as she will pop into school on different days when new staff or colleagues taking over parts of her role will need guidance and training because they know that I won’t have the answers to their questions! She is far too young, and looks too young to retire but she deserves a brief rest from the intensity of school administration work, which she has been an absolute star with, and whatever she chooses to do next the good wishes of all in our community go with her.

Two colleagues will be getting married over the holidays to their respective partners and we hope that the amazingly good weather remains for their happy day. Helen Forrest is marrying Phil and will return as Mrs Taylor and Sarah White is marrying James but will retain her current name in school. Have a wonderful day and many years of married happiness.

Mr D. Jones, Headteacher.

Caleb Cunningham, Robbie Amy and Adam Douglas not only were the only team to complete all 11 questions but they also gained the most points! Everybody worked extremely hard and it was a very worthwhile task to end the year. Another special mention goes to Sophie Naughton, Jasmine Marshall and Laura Heslip for gaining the 2nd place! We would also like to thank the year 9’s who helped the challenge run smoothly; Jay Curran, Nancy Whiteside, Brooke McFord and Alex Gerrard.

Mrs Witterick and Miss Kearns would like to thank and congratulate all of those involved for trying so hard and also making it so enjoyable. What a nice way to end the year!

Sports Week

th th 16 – 18 July 2018

This week students have been busy raising money for Queenscourt Hospice, Trinity Sports Club, Marys Meals and the Playground whilst taking part in our annual Sports Week.

Monday saw students take part in 22 different projects which they all chose and the fun and laughter had by staff and students was infectious. Tuesday was Sports Day where students once again showed their fantastic determination in sport and some outstanding times and distances were accomplished in the athletics events. Then Wednesday was World Cup Day whereby students took part in a massive World Cup Day tournament accompanied by giant inflatables, a BBQ and music. Once against staff have worked so hard to create this week for the students and we hope all staff and students have had a wonderful week.

The running total so far for Sports Week is an incredible:

£3460

Thank you to all parents, carers and students for their help and support in fund raising this year and we wish you all a wonderful summer from Mrs Piearce-Swift 
