CLARK* Department of Anatomy, University of Chicago, Chicago, Illinois, USA Abstract The Archosauria include the living crocodilians and birds, as well as the fossil dinosaurs, pterosaurs, and basal 'thecodontians'. Cladograms of the basal archosaurs and of the crocodylomorphs are given in this paper. There are three primitive archosaur groups, the Proterosuchidae, the Erythrosuchidae, and the Proterochampsidae, which fall outside the crown-group (crocodilian line plus bird line), and these have been defined as plesions to a restricted Archosauria by Gauthier. The Early Triassic Euparkeria may also fall outside this crown-group, or it may lie on the bird line. The crown-group of archosaurs divides into the Ornithosuchia (the 'bird line': Orn- ithosuchidae, Lagosuchidae, Pterosauria, Dinosauria) and the Croco- dylotarsi nov. (the 'crocodilian line': Phytosauridae, Crocodylo- morpha, Stagonolepididae, Rauisuchidae, and Poposauridae). The latter three families may form a clade (Pseudosuchia s.str.), or the Poposauridae may pair off with Crocodylomorpha. The Crocodylomorpha includes all crocodilians, as well as crocodi- lian-like Triassic and Jurassic terrestrial forms. The Crocodyliformes include the traditional 'Protosuchia', 'Mesosuchia', and Eusuchia, and they are defined by a large number of synapomorphies, particularly of the braincase and occipital regions. Abstract: The siliciclastic turbidite successions (Pul’gon and Dzhidala Formations) that crop out in the eastern part of the Chauvay River valley, are marked on geological maps as a belt of terrigenous deposits of Silurian- Devonian age. They resemble deposits of overbank areas and deposilional lobes of deep sea fans, and display common trace fos sils particularly on lower surfaces of sandstone beds. Sixleen ichnolaxa representing four morphological groups have been dislinguished. The trace fos sil as semblages suggest their affiliation to the Nereites ichnolacies. Various branched, prelurbidlte forms predominate in both examlned units, although the assemblages of individual units differ slightly in composition. In the Pulg’on Formation, small, densely distributed burrows commonly occur on lower surfaces of sandstone beds. Shallow burrowing depth together with relatively low diversity trace fossil assemblages indicate lowered oxygenation of the sea floor. Together with rich skeletal record from northeastern China, they facilitate our understanding about distribution and diversity of birds during the time. In contrast, in Japan, the fossil record of the Early Cretaceous birds is poorly known. Here, we report two ichnotaxa of the Early Cretaceous birds from the Aptian Kitadani Formation. We employ three-dimensional imaging techniques to objectively document and describe the specimens. Specimens include FPDM-F-74 and FPDM-F-75 recovered from an alternating sequence of fine sandstone and mudstone of the Kitadani Formation cropping out in the Kitadani Dinosaur Quarry, Katsuyama, Fukui, Japan. FPDM-F-74 is large in size, bears slender digits with pointy ends (claw impressions), and lacks hallux and webbing traces. These characters allow assignment of FPDM-F-74 to cf. -

[email protected] ABSTRACT – The Bauru Group is a sequence at least 300 m in thickness, of Cretaceous age (Turonian- Maastrichtian), located in southeastern Brazil (Bauru Basin), and consists of three formations, namely Adamantina, Uberaba and Marília. Throughout the Upper Cretaceous, there was an alternation between severely hot dry and rainy seasons, and a diverse fauna and flora was established in the basin. The ichnofossils studied were found in the Adamantina Formation outcrops and were identified as Arenicolites isp., ?Macanopsis isp., Palaeophycus heberti and Taenidium barretti, which reveal the burrowing behavior of the endobenthic invertebrates. There are also other biogenic structures such as plant root traces, coprolites and vertebrate fossil egg nests. The Adamantina Formation (Turonian-Santonian) is a sequence of fine sandstones, mudstones, siltstones and muddy sandstones, whose sediments are interpreted as deposited in exposed channel-bars and floodplains associated areas of braided fluvial environments. Sunwoo ABSTRACT The hydrocarbon potential has been evaluated for the Tertiary strata in the northwestern margin of the Okinawa Trough on the basis of the paleontological, petrological, geochemical data from two wells (Nikkan 8-1X and JDZ VII-3), and geophysical data. Abundant marine microfossils such as foraminifers, calcareous z nannofossils and dinocysts were yielded in the sedimentary section of the above wells. Abundant palynomorphs originated from nearby onshore are also encountered. Based on nannofossiles, the biostratigraphic zones from NN12 (Amaurolithus tricorniculatus Zone) to NN19 (P seudoemiliania lacunosa Zone) are established. Four foraminiferal zones and four palynomorph assemblages were identified, which can be corresponded to 2) -Nf- Sb) 34 m -5- calcareous nannofossil zones. -

Paul 3109 North Calvert Station, Side Apartment, Baltimore, MD 21218-3807, USA Received 20 April 2006; accepted in revised form 27 April 2007 Abstract Criteria for designating dinosaur genera are inconsistent; some very similar species are highly split at the generic level, other anatomically disparate species are united at the same rank. Since the mid-1800s the classic genus Iguanodon has become a taxonomic grab-bag containing species spanning most of the Early Cretaceous of the northern hemisphere. Recently the genus was radically redesignated when the type was shifted from nondiagnostic English Valanginian teeth to a complete skull and skeleton of the heavily built, semi-quadrupedal I. bernissartensis from much younger Belgian sediments, even though the latter is very different in form from the gracile skeletal remains described by Mantell. Currently, iguanodont remains from Europe are usually assigned to either robust I. bernissartensis or gracile I. atherfieldensis, regardless of lo- cation or stage. A stratigraphic analysis is combined with a character census that shows the European iguanodonts are markedly more morpho- logically divergent than other dinosaur genera, and some appear phylogenetically more derived than others. Two new genera and a new species have been or are named for the gracile iguanodonts of the Wealden Supergroup; strongly bipedal Mantellisaurus atherfieldensis Paul (2006. An easy-to-navigate pocket guide to the Meeting is also available to delegates. Venue The Annual Meeting will take place in the faculties of Philosophy and Philology on the Blasco Ibañez Campus of the University of Valencia. The Symposium will take place in the Salon Actos Manuel Sanchis Guarner in the Faculty of Philology. The main meeting will take place in this and a nearby lecture theatre (Salon Actos, Faculty of Philosophy). There is a Metro stop just a few metres from the campus that connects with the centre of the city in 5-10 minutes (Line 3-Facultats). Alternatively, the campus is a 20-25 minute walk from the ‘old town’. Registration Registration will be possible before and during the Symposium at the entrance to the Salon Actos in the Faculty of Philosophy. During the main meeting the registration desk will continue to be available in the Faculty of Philosophy. Oral Presentations All speakers (apart from the symposium speakers) have been allocated 15 minutes. It is therefore expected that you prepare to speak for no more than 12 minutes to allow time for questions and switching between presenters. We have a number of parallel sessions in nearby lecture theatres so timing will be especially important. -

The First Possible Choristoderan Trackway from the Lower
www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN The frst possible choristoderan trackway from the Lower Cretaceous Daegu Formation of South Korea and its implications on choristoderan locomotion Yuong‑Nam Lee1*, Dal‑Yong Kong2 & Seung‑Ho Jung2 Here we report a new quadrupedal trackway found in the Lower Cretaceous Daegu Formation (Albian) in the vicinity of Ulsan Metropolitan City, South Korea, in 2018. A total of nine manus‑pes imprints show a strong heteropodous quadrupedal trackway (length ratio is 1:3.36). Both manus and pes tracks are pentadactyl with claw marks. The manus prints rotate distinctly outward while the pes prints are nearly parallel to the direction of travel. The functional axis in manus and pes imprints suggests that the trackmaker moved along the medial side during the stroke progressions (entaxonic), indicating weight support on the inner side of the limbs. There is an indication of webbing between the pedal digits. These new tracks are assigned to Novapes ulsanensis, n. ichnogen., n. ichnosp., which are well‑matched not only with foot skeletons and body size of Monjurosuchus but also the fossil record of choristoderes in East Asia, thereby N. ulsanensis could be made by a monjurosuchid‑like choristoderan and represent the frst possible choristoderan trackway from Asia. N. ulsanensis also suggests that semi‑aquatic choristoderans were capable of walking semi‑erect when moving on the ground with a similar locomotion pattern to that of crocodilians on land. South Korea has become globally famous for various tetrapod footprints from Cretaceous strata1, among which some clades such as frogs2, birds3 and mammals4 have been proved for their existences only with ichnological evidence. -

Originally described on the basis of a single specimen including a remarkably complete and well-preserved skull and lower jaw, S. clarki is now known from five additional specimens that preserve portions of the craniofacial skeleton. Collectively, these six specimens represent all elements of the head skeleton except the stapedes, thus making the craniofacial skeleton of S. clarki one of the best and most completely preserved among all known basal mesoeucrocodylians. In this report, we provide a detailed description of the entire head skeleton of S. clarki, including a portion of the hyobranchial apparatus. The two most complete and well-preserved specimens differ substantially in several size and shape variables (e.g., projections, angulations, and areas of ornamentation), suggestive of sexual dimorphism.
