Dear participant,

This year the EUROPEAN SUMMER SCHOOL ‘EXPLORING ENTREPRENEURSHIP’ is held in , at the National research university Higher School of Economics. The Higher School of Economics is a leader in Russian education and one of the preeminent economics and social sciences universities in Eastern Europe and Eurasia. Having rapidly grown into a well-renowned research university over two decades, HSE sets itself apart with its international presence and cooperation. Our faculty, researchers, and students represent over 50 countries, and are dedicated to maintaining the highest academic standards. Now a dynamic university with four campuses, HSE is a leader in combining Russian education traditions with the best international teaching and research practices. HSE offers outstanding educational programmes from secondary school to doctoral studies, with top departments and research centres in a number of international fields. Since 2013, HSE has been a member of the 5-100 Russian Academic Excellence Project, a highly selective government programme aimed at boosting the international competitiveness of Russian universities. Now, the HSE belongs to the top-100 in their core areas in QS and the Shanghai Global rankings; it belongs to the top-100 in the Young University Rankings (Nr. 1 in Russia). The aim of the Summer school is to engage students coming from different universities and areas of study in the frontier research in Entrepreneurship as a multidisciplinary field – let them acknowledged with its core concepts, research approaches and possible outcomes. Besides, it serves to get visiting students acknowledged with the framework and the specific features of entrepreneurship in the host city. This time, students will have opportunities to talk with local entrepreneurs, experts and to visit some infrastructure institutions supporting innovative entrepreneurship in Russia, among them Skolkovo. Besides, they will have some time to take part in the cultural life of the vibrant megacity in the East of Europe, Moscow.

Fees, accommodation, summer school package

The fee will be 200.- EUR for partner universities students and 400.- EUR for third part students; accommodation costs excluded (however, the dorms of the HSE are rather cheap, ca. 20 EUR/week). In this fee all lunches on working day, introductory cocktail and final gala dinner costs are included. Cultural program: now, at least 2 days, extension on own disposal. We should collect the wishes of participants until the end of June to book some excursions etc. if needed.

Summer school venue (on title page)

11, Myasnitskaya Ulitsa – the very central location of the new HSE building provides opportunities for walking, shopping and gastronomic adventures in the heart of the megacity just a few minutes after the class-hours are finished. 5-10 min. by foot from ‘Lubyanka’, ‘’, ‘Chistye Prudy’, ‘’ or ‘Sretenskiy Bulvar’ metro stations.

There are many art nouveau buildings on Myasnitskaya Ulitsa, including the Biblio Globus bookshop (6/3, Myasnitskaya). The Tea House (19, Myasnitskaya) is decorated in the Chinoiserie style, one of the only buildings of its kind in Moscow. Passed the Bulvarnoe Koltso (Boulevard ring), you may find two superb examples of Constructivist architecture: the Gostorg building (47, Myasnitskaya) and the Tsentrosoyuz building constructed by Le Corbusier (39, Myasnitskaya).

Directions  A 10 min. walk from the ‘Prospekt Mira’ (orange line) towards Rizhsky Railway Station or via trolleybus 9 or 48 to the stop ‘Banny Pereulok’. Next turn to Banny Pereulok, then walk along Glinisty Pereulok up to Bolshaya Pereyaslavskaya Ulitsa. The dormitory is located on the opposite side of the street.  A 15 min. walk from the metro station ‘Rizhskaya’ to Bolshaya Pereyaslavskaya Ulitsa.  Take a trolleybus 14 from the metro station ‘Komsomolskaya’ and go to the station ‘Bolshaya Pereyaslavskaya’. Blocks/rooms Each block includes 2 rooms – a small room (13,8 – 13,9 sq m for 2 persons) and a big one (19,3 – 20,0 sq m for 3 persons). All rooms are fully equipped: beds (with mattresses), desks, chairs, closets with three sections for clothes and bedside-tables. There is a separate WC and a bathroom in each block. Students are responsible for cleaning their rooms themselves.

Faculties:

Igor Agamirzian is Professor and Department Head at the Institute of Innovation Management and Vice President of the HSE Moscow. He was working in different positions from 1995 to 2007 as a representative of the Microsoft in UK, CEE in the Middle East. In 2009 - 2016 he was the general director and head of the board of the Russian Venture Company. He is an author of several scientific papers on information society and computation business.

Olga Belousova is Assistant professor at University of Groningen and co- developer of the University of Groningen Centre of Entrepreneurship. Her interests include new venture creation processes in both independent and corporate contexts. She is involved in developing and teaching courses about entrepreneurship and new venture creation for business, technical and medicine students, as well as for interdisciplinary and extracurricular modules.

Chay Brooks is Lecturer in International Entrepreneurship and a member of the Centre for Regional Economic and Enterprise Development (CREED) at the Sheffield University. Chay's research explores the development and practices of entrepreneurial philanthropy, social responsibilities of international foundations, corporate philanthropies and the philosophies of philanthropic giving at regional and international scales.

Alexander Chepurenko is Professor and head of the Sociology department at the HSE. His research areas are comparative analysis of entrepreneurship and SME development in Post-Socialist economies, entrepreneurial activity of population and its predicting factors, informal entrepreneurship. Member of several academic associations and societies in Russia and abroad. Co-founder of the European Summer School “Exploring Entrepreneurship” since 2011.

Adriana Drencheva is Lecturer in Entrepreneurship at the Sheffield University Management School. Before joining Sheffield University, she worked as a strategist with NGOs, MNCs, start-ups, sport teams, and social ventures to create strong brands and launch successful products, services, platforms, experiences, and campaigns. Her research adopts a micro-foundational perspective to investigate how actions, interactions, cognition, and relationships contribute to venture outcomes, such as venture emergence or innovation.

Alexey Goryachev is entrepreneur, manager, banker and investor with more than 25 years of experience. YPO (Young Presidents Organization) Moscow Chapter Chair. Master of business, EY Entrepreneur of the Year 2015. Skolkovo Startup Academy faculty. Senior partner RB Partners. Co-founder, President, Chairman of a private investment bank RMG (1994), capital markets, asset management, PE & VC. N1 Forbes Russia ranking by quality of research in 2015 for 3 years. Education: Financial Academy under the Russian Government, MBA KWU, EMBA Skolkovo, Berkeley Haas, Harvard.

Aard Groen is Professor of Innovative Entrepreneurship & Valorisation - University of Twente & University of Groningen; Dean of Entrepreneurship - University of Groningen Center of Entrepreneurship; Scientific director NIKOS: University of Twente center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Research leader at IGS, Institute for Innovation & Governance Studies-program Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Coordinating professor Twente Graduate School, program Innovation & Entrepreneurship; Academic leader of Venturelab International; Associate-editor of Technovation journal for technology entrepreneurship and innovation management. Co-founder of the European Summer School “Exploring Entrepreneurship” since 2011.

Rainer Harms is Associate Professor at NIKOS, University of Twente, coordinating the International Entrepreneurship research group at UT. Rainer was Visiting Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (Wirtschaftsuniversität Wien), at Klagenfurt University, and at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. His research activities revolve around entrepreneurship, innovation management, and organization.

Joris Heuven is Assistant Professor of the Department of Innovation and Organization at the University of Groningen. His specialization focuses on Mergers & Acquisitions, Corporate Finance, Valuation and Business Analysis, currently investigating venture capital fund strategies, financial structuring, team dynamics and network structures.

Jan Kratzer is Professor, Chair of Entrepreneurship and Innovation Management at the Technical University Berlin. He hosted the Exploring Entrepreneurship summer school in 2012 in Berlin, and would hold a joint lecture with Prof. Dirk Meissner as co-head of a double degree Masters’ Program of TUB and HSE ‘Economics of Innovation’

Dirk Meissner is Professor and Academic Supervisor of the Master Program 'Governance of Science, Technology and Innovation' of the Department of Educational Programs at the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge of the HSE, Moscow. His previous experience includes T.A. Cook Consultants, where he was Head of Unit Industry Studies and Research, Swiss Science and Technology Council (SSTC), Arthur D. Little International etc. He took his BA at the Wolverhampton University (UK) and PhD degree at Dresden Technical university.

Dr. Yuri Simachev is coordinating the research area “Economic Policy” at the HSE since 2016. One of the most known Russian experts on entrepreneurship and innovation policy. Former employment record: 2015-2016 - Deputy Director General, Russian Science Foundation; 2004-2014 - Deputy Director General, Interdepartmental Analytical Center; 2002-2003 - Head of Research and Development Department, Institute of Complex Strategic Studies; 1992-2001 - Deputy Director, Head of Division on Analysis and Evaluation, Interdepartmental Analytical Center.

Tim Vorley is Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Sheffield University Management School. His research interests are entrepreneurship, enterprise and regional economies. His work has a broad empirical focus, including Europe, Asia and South America, and is primarily concerned with institutional arrangements affect entrepreneurial activity. Tim's wider interests include: Intrapreneurship, Industry Clusters, Regional Innovation Systems, and Entrepreneurial Ecosystems. He is co-organizer of the European Summer School “Exploring Entrepreneurship” since 2013.
