CHURCH REVIEW The Vicar and Church Committee are planning to hold a “Church Review” , probably some time in January, to discuss what sort of church are we and where are we heading. This will be the second step toward recruiting a new Vicar (the first step is Prayer). 4 STC Bulletin 070114

FROM THE VICAR: ABOUABOUTT THE FUTURE Dear Friends, After 15 hard and productive years of growth, Shatin Church has become a vibrant fellowship, and it is very important we ensure that the future pastoral leadership of the church is God’s appointment, to lead you forward in the next chapter of your life. Therefore I and the Trustees of St Andrew’s Church (Mr Ronny To and Mrs Nancy Chu) will meet with the Committee soon to begin the process for selecting a new minister. I expect it will go like this:

1. Shatin Church will do a review of itself – what sort of church are we, where are we heading? 2. Church committee will elect three members to a search committee, with 2 Trustees and Vicar 3. Search committee will prepare a profile of church and criteria for new minister 4. Ads placed, applications assessed and interviews undertaken 5. Search committee recommends appointment to Vicar 6. Vicar, with Bishop’s approval, makes appointment.

If you have any questions please feel free to ask your committee or me. In the meantime I will ensure we have plenty of opportunities to pray and consult together. We want not only the appointment, but the means of appointment to be glorifying to God. Yours in Christ Service John Menear, Vicar – St Andrew’s Church

Also, please note that to date we have held the following values (among others) in our giving: i) We value ministries which are church based or genuinely support the work of local churches ii) We value ministries which include a focus on ministry to children and youth iii) We value ministries which can demonstrate financial and relational integrity and accountability iv) We value ministries which help promote a home cell group or small group based model of church life v) We value ministries which emphasise both gospel proclamation (word), and service in action (deed).

These are values and not criteria as such so please do not be anxious if your work does not include all of the above. However any reference you can make to these values in your response would be very helpful.

CCCHCHHHRRRRIIIISSSSTTTTIIIIAAAANNNN SSSOSOOOLLLLIIIIDDDDAAAARRRRIIIITTTTYYYY WWWOWOOORRRRLLLLDDDDWWWWIIIIDDDDEEEE INDIA: Another state passes anti-conversion bill 3 January - In the northern state of Himachal Pradesh the Congress Party has passed an anti-conversion bill. Any person deemed to be forcibly converting another person could be imprisoned for up to two years and / or fined up to 25,000 rupees ((USD565). Also anyone wishing to convert to another religion must give prior notice of at least 30 days to the district government or face a fine of up to 1,000 rupees. Such laws are in effect in five other states but they are controlled by the Hindu nationalist political party, the BJP. This is the first Congress-led state to enact such a law. Only 8,000 of the more than 6 million people in Himachal Pradesh are Christian. (Compass Direct)

INDIA: Anti-Christian attacks throughout the Christmas and New Year season 6 January - Churches and individual Christians were attacked all across India over the Christmas period. Churches were burned, services were disrupted and worshippers attacked and dispersed. Christmas carolers near Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh state, were attacked on Christmas eve and suffered injuries. The 'Times of India' reported police claims that the carolers were engaged in fraudulent conversion activities (WEA RLC).

In the new year, approximately 200 members of the VHP or World Hindu Council attacked four pastors of the Brethren Assembly church in Indrapuram near Delhi, Uttar Pradesh on 2 January. The church leaders who had been distributing tracts to local residents sustained internal injuries. On the same day, extremists of the Dharma Sena (Religious Army) beat two Christians in Devera village in the Singroli area of Madhya Pradesh. The victims had been locked in a Christian home for safeguarding but the militants broke through a perimeter wall and into the home. After a government official intervened, the police reluctantly filed a complaint against the attackers. The militants responded by filing a counter-complaint against the victims, accusing them of conversions. No arrests have been made yet. (Compass Direct)

HOME GROUP PRAYER Lord God, we pray for comfort, encouragement and building up of those Christians in India who were intimidated, abused, attacked, injured and traumatised over the holiday season.

We pray that you protect those believers in India who risk persecution and attack when they share the Gospel. Envelope them in your safekeeping, empower them through your Spirit and frustrate the ways of the wicked.

We pray that the federal government challenges unconstitutional state laws and protects and sustains India's constitutional religious liberty.

UNCLASSIFIED FULL FLAME FIRE CONFCONFERENCEERENCE REINHARD BONNKE – Hong Kong July 2007 “Hell empty and Heaven full!” With that motto, Evangelist Reinhard Bonnke has been conducting crusades in the continent of Africa and other countries for over 30 years. Nearly 40 years ago, as a young missionary in Maseru, Lesotho, Bonnke received from the Lord a vision of a 'blood-washed Africa.' Even though at that time there was little or no evidence in his ministry that such a grand idea was even remotely possible, he took hold of the vision and in Jesus' name began to speak it and live it.

In 1974 the evangelistic organization known as 'Christ for all Nations' was born. The young evangelist and a small team started to reach out to the peoples of Africa, and soon the preaching of the Word began to produce a bountiful harvest of souls. As hundreds of thousands flocked to every meeting, the largest tent could no longer hold the incoming crowds. Open-air crusades became the order of the day. In one particular crusade held in Lagos, Nigeria, 1,600,000 people came to a single meeting with a total of six million attending the five days of services.

Since the beginning of his evangelical ministry, Reinhard Bonnke has preached face to face to multiplied millions of people in Africa alone. Of that vast number, over twenty eight million responded to the call of salvation by filling out decision cards and were ushered into the church follow-up program.

The ministry increased the number of crusades held per year in Africa and also began to branch out to Asia by holding one crusade per year in that part of the world. Crusades followed in Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Singapore and India, with three or four taking place in South America as well. Each event resulted in tens of thousand receiving Jesus Christ as their Savior, and multitudes were healed and delivered from demon forces.

Next year, Bonnke is coming to Hong Kong wishing to bless the brothers and sisters in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. Here, I like to invite you and your church/organization to partner and support in this exciting event. If the Lord stirs a passion in you, please contact Sherri Chan (2235-5226, [email protected] ) at Kingdom Ministries. She will then send you additional information, brochures, and posters.
