    SABATHAN – WANTS TO KEEP THE ANCIENT SPIRIT ALIVE One of the most legendary figures of the Belgian Black Metal-scene is Lord Sabathan, mostly known for his time with Enthroned, one of the oldest Belgian Black Metal bands. Nowadays, he's busy as hell with Slaughter Messiah, Heinous and Sabathan, a project that resurrected the old-Enthroned stuff. Time for a chat with this living legend.(JOKKE) Hail Sabathan! You have been quite busy the past few months due to recordings for a new Slaughter Messiah album among other things. What can we expect from this new release? Expect just pure fuckin’ Ancient Metal of Death! I think this is the album I am the most proud off since Enthroned’s 1997 album “Towards the skullthrone of Satan”. We are busy with the record since November 2018. Everything is done except the graphic material. We still have to finish some details, but this album - believe me - will surprise more than one. The title for our first full length album will be “Cursed to the pyre” and contains eight songs of pure aggression clocking in at around 45 minutes of music. The record will be released through High Roller Records in January 2020. We took our time but it’s for giving the best. After you quit Enthroned in 2006, you played in Black/Thrash Metal band Dawn Of Crucifixion, Heavy/Speed Metal outfit Horacle and Slaughter Messiah. How is playing in these smaller and more underground metal bands compared to Enthroned, who were already a well-established name in the Extreme Metal scene? The popularity doesn’t matter, the most important thing for me is playing from the heart and the soul and that my music has a soul.

    Borknagar – Winter Thrice (49:39, CD, Century Media/Sony Music, 2016) Borknagar stehen seit 1996 – mithin schon seit beeindruckenden 20 Jahren – für wechselnde Besetzungen an den Gesangsmikrofonen, aber auch für Kontinuität beim Hervorbringen ihrer ganz eigenen Ausprägung progressiven Black- bzw. Folk Metals. Ihre Diskografie birgt schöne Erinnerungen wie die an „Empiricism“ (´01) oder an das ausgesprochen passend betitelte „Epic“ (´04). Das elfte Studioalbum, „Winter Thrice“, wartet sogar mit vier Sängern und in diesem Zusammenhang einem – für Genre-Fans – Sensatiönchen auf: Ulvers Kristoffer Rygg alias Garm, Bandmitglied bei den ersten beiden Borknagar-Alben, steuerte für das Titelstück Lead- und für ‚Terminus‘ Hintergrundgesang bei! Der Rest des Teams: Leitwolf Øystein Garnes Brun (Gitarre, Komposition), Andreas “ Vintersorg“ Hedlund (Gesang), Lars „Lazare“ Nedland (Keyboards, Backing vocals), Jens F. Ryland Leadgitarre, ICS Vortex Bass, Gesang (u.a. Ex-Dimmu Borgir, Arcturus) und Baard Kolstad (Schlagzeug). Gemeinsam entstanden besonders mitreißend geratene Songs mit allen liebenswerten Borknagar-Markenzeichen. Der Aufmacher ‚The Rhymes Of The Mountain‘ führt wuchtig, aber mit einem stark folkloristisch anmutenden Thema und majestätischen Chören in das Geschehen ein – kein Wunder bei dieser Sängerriege! Das Titelstück zelebriert den Wechsel zwischen wiegenden Rhythmen und sanftem Gesang einerseits und das Tempo stark beschleunigenden Parts mit schön fiesem Trollgroll andererseits besonders gelungen. Klingt trotzdem alles zu heftig fürs Proggerherz? ‚Panorama‘ bietet einen ruhig bleibenden, keyboard-getriebenen Rundblick, und am Rausschmeißer ‚Terminus‘ hat der Dichter der Presseinfo sogar „Pink-Floyd-Flavour“ ausgemacht.     BEHEXEN TO INFERNO FESTIVAL 2013 There will be Finnish ritual black metal when cult legends BEHEXEN enter the stage at Rockefeller during INFERNO METAL FESTIVAL 2013. Their newest effort, called “Nightside Emanations”, proves that the band is one of the most interesting bands coming from Finland and it might also be one of the best releases this year within the genre. Earlier announced artists are SATYRICON, TAAKE, SOLEFALD, PURIFIED IN BLOOD, AETURNUS, DISKORD and IN VAIN. BEHEXEN Finnish BEHEXEN has over the years built up a huge cult following of fans. The music is brutal, yet thick with atmosphere and satanic darkness. From the very start in 1994, under the name Lords of the Left Hand, they released several demos before the debut album in 2000 called “Rituale Satanum”. This year they have released one of the best black metal albums of 2012 called “Nightside Emanations”, which elevates them to one of the leading acts in Finland's black metal scene. No wonder when the members of BEHEXEN hails from other great bands such as Horna, Sargeist, One tail, One Head and Mare – to mention a few. Ob hier ein programmiertes Schlagzeug verwendet wurde oder nicht, lässt sich kaum heraushören, da der Gesamtmix bombastisch zusammengestellt wurde und alle Instrumente richtig druckvoll durch die Boxen schallen und differenziert klingen.

Debutalbum deres, som har fått tittelen «Idiokrati», kom nylig ut. En skive fylt opp med hardcore som føles som en knyttneve i trynet, med massevis av rock 'n' roll-attityde og en pen dose med metal. Albumet ble spilt inn i Canada av den verdenskjente produsenten Eric Ratz (Comeback Kid, Cancer Bats og Billy Talent). Vi snakker her om en intens skive laget av ren og rå energi – og det skal bli like intenst når Man the Machetes entrer scenen på Inferno Metal Festival 2013.

    A BLACK METAL SZÍNPADI NEVEI 1. A black metal zenei mfaja az 1980-as években alakult, és fleg sátánista, keresz- tényellenes, mizantróp eszméket propagál. Az els black metal együttesek közé az angol Venom, a dán King Diamond, a svájci Celtic Frost és a svéd Bathory tartozik (az utóbbit Báthory Erzsébetrl, illetve egy róla szóló dal nyomán nevezték el). Az 1990-es évek elején a stílusirányzat nagy népszerségre tett szert Skandináviában, olyannyira, hogy a black metalt nem annyira jól ismerk körében a stílusirányzat azonosul a világnak azon részével, hiszen onnan származik a black metal legtöbb meghatározó fontosságú együt- tese. Ezen zenekarok jellemz tulajdonsága az e zene ideológiájával kapcsolatos nevek alkalmazása, amelyeket itt az angol stage names nyomán színpadi nevek-nek nevezünk. Meg kell azonban jegyezni, hogy ezt tágabb értelemben kell érteni, vagyis ezeken a ne- veken a zenészek nemcsak fellépéseik, turnéik alatt, hanem minden, az együtteseikkel kapcsolatos dokumentumon szerepelnek. Kisebb vagy lokális hatású együttesek egyes tagjainak polgári nevei nem is ismertek a nagyközönség eltt, kivételes esetekben pedig egy-egy zenész hivatalosan is fölveszi az általa kiválasztott színpadi nevet. A színpadi név fölvétele az együttes megalapításakor történik, illetve az adott zenésznek az együt- tesbe való belépésekor. Ezek a színpadi nevek a stílusirányzat képviselinek világnéze- tével állnak szoros kapcsolatban, vagyis azzal a világnézettel, amelyet k magukénak vallanak. Ez a világnézet ellentétben áll az általánosan elfogadott erkölcsi normákkal. Ebbl a szempontból ez az eljárás az ókori rituális névváltoztatás gyakorlatához hasonló: a zenész az együttesben való részvételével és a színpadi név fölvételével mintegy áthágja az emberi világ határait, és kijelenti azt, hogy innentl kezdve egy má- sik világba tartozik, ezért már nem nevezend az „evilági” nevén.
