These conflicts were discussed in the public sphere, but did not play the role they had in the constitution of modern states, as has been shown more generally by Habermas and more recent scholars.1 A series of questions emerged over this period concerning, for example, the extent to which Catholicism was still part of Austrian identity, or whether the effects of migration and globalisation had weakened this sense of affiliation.

    Educational democratization and inequality Student organizations in Europe during the nineteenth century Antonin DUBOIS ABSTRACT European student organizations were born during the nineteenth century. After a period of repression during the century’s early decades, they were able to develop relatively freely starting in the 1860s. They could contribute to student folklore as well as take charge of the corporative interests of their members. Source : wikipedia Student organizations in the current sense of the term emerged in Europe during the nineteenth century, when the – still limited – limited number of students experienced unprecedented growth. They took the form of social circles; associations for the defense of student interests; political, religious, sporting and scientific associations; as well as groups for female or foreign students, all of which emerged at varying paces throughout Europe beginning in the 1800s. Difficult beginnings This emergence was difficult, for at the beginning of the century student organizations were monitored and disbanded by political authorities. The German states (Karlsbad decrees, 1819) and France (1820) passed repressive legislation, as authorities feared their revolutionary potential. This was especially true of the first political organization, the Burschenschaft, founded in Jena in 1815, which fought for German unification. A few organizations were created in the most democratic countries. The first student debate club in Great Britain was founded as early as 1794 at Saint Andrews (Literary Society), followed by the Cambridge Union Society in 1815 and the Oxford Union in 1823.

Es wurden an den verschiedens- ten Stellen des Cartellrechts Änderungen vorgenommen worden, die die Lebendigkeit des CV-Rechts widerspiegeln. Um die Les- und Anwendbarkeit der CV-Verfassung auch für Nichtjuristen zu vereinfa- chen, wurden Cartellordnung und Geschäftsordnung zur neuen Cartellordnung (CO) zusammengefaßt. Die Form der Herausgabe des CV-Rechts hat sich dahingehend ge- ändert, dass sie zum einen als Datei im pdf-Format im internen Teil der CV-Homepage abgelegt ist, zum anderen als „Lose-Blatt-Sammlung“ über das CV-Sekretariat bezogen werden kann. Dies erleichtert bei Überarbeitungen des CV-Rechts zukünftig den Aus- tausch von einzelnen Blättern oder Kapiteln, ohne dass das Gesamtwerk zur Makulatur würde. In einem weiteren Schritt sind die Verbändeabkommen ebenso wie die Satzungen von Vereinen und Stiftungen aktualisiert und der CV-Verfassung angehängt worden. Das Werk abschließen wird als eigener Teil das neue Consenioratsbuch, das weiterführen- de Interpretationen, Beschlüsse und Resolutionen enthalten wird. Erinnert sei an die Worte des Vorsitzenden im CV-Rat und des Vorortspräsidenten an- läßlich der Herausgabe des CV-Rechts im Dezember 1974: Die Prinzipien des Cartellverbandes und das mit ihm verbundene CV-Recht bieten die Grundlage für die fruchtbare und gedeihliche Zusammenarbeit im Verbande.

Organisational actors and categories are marked in the catalogue by capitalisation. Non capitalised categories only include individual actors (accumulative or singular). While the category “Front-runner of the SPÖ” only concerns the person Werner Faymann, the catalogue also comprises accumulative categories referring to a group of individual or collective actors (e.g. public relation workers of the ministries, states). Actors who are not explicitly assigned to a category are categorized in the accumulative category at the next level. If an actor can be assigned to more than one accumulative category (e.g. Peter Pilz belongs to both categories „ Members of the Parliamentary Group of Die Grünen” and „ Staff and Representatives of the Federal Die Grünen“), he is coded in the category in which function he is mainly stressed in the context of the main topic of the report. In general, all obviously identifiable individual and collective actors are coded, if they qualify as main actors in the report. This applies to all political, economic or civil society actors equally as to private persons or organisations. Thereby, every explicitly identifiable actor is viewed as independent actor.

A way of testing significance was devised and three variables were produced: Proclivity to violence, winning coalition size, and whether or not a war of conquest took place. The scope for this project was the time period of 1900-1950 and the location was Europe. The European countries were then refined down to a list of 10 states based on power ratings used in the Correlates of War. Then the leaders of each of these states were rated on a scale of 1 – 5 on personal violence, or how inclined they were to act violently.
