The Check-Out-Hunger program was launched by food banks and retailers to generate additional funding for the fight against hunger that afflicts more than 300,000 individuals in Long Island. Participating supermarkets and conveniences will offer $1, $2, and $5 coupons to shoppers for redemption. Volunteers will play a vital role as liaisons between Long Island Cares, Inc., and store managers, to promote the program, create smooth working relationships with the cashiers, and are responsible for set up and maintaining supplies in their own local stores.
