We are rightly pleased to from Hungerford. There has been a close rivalry be top of the embryonic table of the new season between the two sides built up over many years and rightly proud to have (almost)been awarded and with the financial prizes for progress in that the “Club of the Month “ award for August. The great competition at stake we are in for a tense unusual situation that arose in the week just gone and potentially season changing afternoon - was that we were told by the league the award don’t miss it and tell all your friends! was ours only then a few hours later to be told that our visitors today had a fractionally better Tuesday’s defeat in the Southern League Cup was CORBY MOORE percentage points per game so that they were not a major disappointment as it is a competition now going to be the award’s recipients!! That of that as it wears on can be a drain on finances course only goes to show what a crunch clash we and playing resources. A local derby as we had have in prospect today - all set up for a cracking with Wimborne, however, gave us a chance to early season six pointer! give certain players much need pitch time and we saw some excellent displays from a clutch Hopefully our squad today will have a more solid of Paul Turner’s talented reserve squad which look about it as of late we have suffered badly included a stunning goal from Jason Dyer and from absences of key players due to injury and an excellent display of goalkeeping from young suspension. We know that we will have Jamie Harry Phillips. Whisken and Josh Carmichael back from their respective bans and we have Flavio Tavares back The dreadful legacy from the night of course was from injury with hopefully Adam Grange to follow the controversial straight red for Sam Jackson in shortly. Brennan Camp has rejoined us on loan the last minute of added time.A three match ban from AFC Bournemouth and he will be a very follows after today - difficult to take! welcome addition to the squad over the next few months. He did not get much of a chance during Enjoy the game and don’t forget the 50:50 his first brief spell with us last season but went tickets.

We are confident that, if that were all it took to take control of the club, we could raise that amount of money in a relatively short time – similar feats have been achieved by other trusts. Unfortunately the club is potentially in such a perilous financial state that, if we (the Trust) simply bought out Mr Fry, we would be in exactly the same position as the club is now, owing money to numerous creditors who could conceivably cause the club to be wound up at any time. Equally, the other creditors or guarantors could also demand to be repaid.

You're So... We're So... This is dedicated to Woody (my son Daniel). A dad always dreams of a son who comes to football with him and Woody has done so. That's the way God planned it: That's the way God planned it Toby. Billy Preston 1969 The End and the Beginning Thank you to all those who have stood (and I emphasise the word 'stood') on the Glebe Road side of the Posh ground over the past few years. Next season we will have to sit down and watch Peterborough United if we want to stay on the Glebe Road side. Time has marched on and a stand is to be built on our beloved concrete. No more stamping feet to keep warm. No more wandering about. No more dandelions. It is very self-indulgent, I know, but I I would particularly like to thank Woody, Les, Trevor, Stewart, Colin, Geoff 'the Pieman', Steve, Jack, 'Eastern Gas', David, Derek, Angus, Phil Walden, Vern and the gang for their friendship, jokes and extra strong mints. But, most of all, I would like to recognise all those people that we all nod to, or say 'hello' to - the sort of folk whose names we never get to find out, the people who just go down in folklore as 'the Man Behind Me', 'the Mick Halsall Fan Club' or 'the man with the Dodgy Glasses', people who, if we were to meet on the sea front at Great Yarmouth in high summer, we would greet like long-lost friends.

Today we G welcome our guests from GOSPORT BOROUGH FC to our home, and we hope they enjoy their short visit, and have a safe journey home to Hampshire’s south coast later tonight. My thanks go especially to Rachel Stone for providing details for this programme. Our visit to Gosport almost eight months ago produced a 2-1 defeat, but was a game that I think many of us felt we might have got some kind of result. A lot of water has passed under Staines Bridge since then, and ‘results’ have been few and far between, meaning that we’ve long since been relegated, but our visi- tors still have everything to play for as they try to preserve their Premier Division status. Just five years ago, Boro were looking forward to a trip to Wembley to contest the FA Trophy final, but a couple of years after they saw them beset by financial worries, which was to see them lose their place in the Conference South.

THE HAMPSHIRE CRICKET SOCIETY Patrons: John Woodcock Frank Bailey Shaun Udal NEWSLETTER 314 – JANUARY 2012 MEETINGS Wednesday 11 January 2012 - Meeting The Society extends a warm welcome to this evening’s speaker, Martin Bodenham. He is the only man to referee in the Football League and umpire in first-class cricket. Born in Brighton on 23 April 1950, MARTIN JOHN DALE BODENHAM took up refereeing in local parks football in his native town (now city) in 1966. He graduated to the top level in 1978. He was the fourth official at the 1994 European Cup Final, when A C Milan, inspired by a majestic Dejan Savicevic, swamped Barcelona 4 – 0 in one of the greatest performances in the Competition’s history. On the domestic scene, he refereed the League Cup Final between Leicester City and Middlesborough at Wembley in 1997. The teams were unable to finish affairs at the end of extra time (1 – 1) and so a replay was necessary at Hillsborough. This match also went to extra time but the maverick Steve Claridge eventually won the match for Leicester City with a goal in the 100th minute. He also refereed four international matches and two FA Cup Semi-Finals. He retired from refereeing in 1998, whereupon he became an umpire in the Sussex Cricket League. He was added to the ECB reserve list in 2006, and officiated the match between England A and Sri Lanka at Worcester in May of that year. He was appointed to the first-class umpires list in 2009. To date, he has stood in only one of Hampshire’s first-class matches, a drawn encounter at Headingley in September 2009.

E R Bell, Adrian R. Brooks, Chris Markham, Tom ̈ RECEIVED : 13 JANUARY 2013 ̈ ACCEPTED : 11 MARCH 2013 Abstract This paper analyses the 53 managerial sackings and resignations from 16 stock exchange listed English football clubs during the nine seasons between 2000/01 and 2008/09. The results demonstrate that, on average, a managerial sacking results in a post-announcement day market-adjusted share price rise of 0.3%, whilst a resignation leads to a drop in share price of 1% that continues for a trading month thereafter, cumulating in a negative abnormal return of over 8% from a trading day before the event. These findings are intuitive, and suggest that sacking a poorly performing manager may be welcomed by the markets as a possible route to better future match performance, while losing a capable manager through resignation, who typically progresses to a superior job, will result in a drop in a club’s share price. The paper also reveals that while the impact of managerial departures on stock price volatilities is less clear-cut, speculation in the newspapers is rife in the build-up to such an event.
