Anthony Millerick : First Team Manager ‘Millers’ is now in his fifth season with the Row. He has guided us to two league titles, two promotions taking us from step 5 to step 3, a Hampshire Senior Cup Semi-Final, and lifting the Aldershot Senior Cup. A much sought- after manager whose services we are fortunate to retain. Tactically astute and, whilst he can be uncompromising, he has a way with his players that engenders loyalty.

Sam Rafique : First Team Coach Sam holds a UEFA License and is also currently an academy coach with Aldershot Town FC. Into his second season with us now, he’s had spells at Fleet Town, Godalming Town & Camberley Town. Affable and very approachable, Sam works incredibly hard for the Club.

Strong in his opinion yet also very willing to hear another point of view, Woody’s approachable manner makes him an asset to the club working alongside Sam and Mark, having already worked with Sam at Fleet briefly.

Mark Povey : Sports Therapist Mark joins us this season. He comes to us with a wealth of ex- perience in the game, having left Wealdstone FC during the summer. Mark has come in with some fresh ideas and tech- niques regarding physiotherapy, fitness and general well-being which has already benefited the players.

Colin Charlton : Kit Man Colin works hard behind the scenes and on match days, doing the vital support role for the team. He’s much more than just the man who looks after the kit!

39 40 HARTLEY BACK IN THE DAY

15 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK (2004-05) 18/9/2004 Hartley Wintney 2 Chessington Utd 2 Combined Counties League Premier Division Coming from a 5-1 drubbing away at Merstham, just 38 were at the Memorial Ground to see us draw against Chessington, our goals coming from Bennett and an own goal. A week later we were in FA Vase action, but not for long, going out 2-1 at home to Petersfield Town in the second qualifying round. Sheppard scored our solitary goal. It was not to be a season fondly remembered by The Row faithful.

10 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK (2009-10) 19/9/2009 Hartley Wintney 1 East Grinstead 2 FA Vase Second Qualifying Round After a very decent start to the league season, in which we scored a bag full of goals, games began to get away from us around this time 10 years ago. We’d been booted out of the Hampshire Senior Cup the week before by Whitchurch Utd at their place (3-0) in the first round of the competition. A nice little run in the Vase was in our sights, but we went down 2-1 to East Grinstead in front of a crowd of 82, our goal coming from Danny Weeks (pictured here on the right).

5 YEARS AGO THIS WEEK (2014-15) 16/9/2014 Hartley Wintney 5 Andover New Street 2 Hampshire Senior Cup First Round From the archive of the online version of the Basingstoke Gazette: HARTLEY Wintney cruised into the second round of the Hampshire Senior Cup, as they beat visiting Andover New Street 5-2. The village side were 4-1 up at half-time in the tie, after Ian Jones, Craig Barker, Lukas Burt and Ryan Stephens had all scored. Andover pulled a goal back after the break, but Steve Noakes added a fifth, which earned his side a trip to Conference South side Gosport Bor- ough in round two.

We lost the evening game in round 2 at Gosport 3-1; but we were competitive and it wasn’t a bad result for a CCL club at the time.

HWJFC U15 Harriers pre-season update

The 2018/19 season for the HWJFC U14 Harriers was another good season for the Harriers. We didn't quite match the heroics of our season at U13 (League and Cup double) but with promotion to Division 3 and a tougher Cup draw we ended the season with a 3rd place in the League and making the Semi Final of our Cup competition. We also took part for the first time in the Hampshire Cup. Hoping for a fun away trip to a team from the Isle of Wight or similar, we ended up drawn against a team based in Surrey who play in the East Berks League! Sadly we fell at the first hurdle, losing 5-3.

Our third place finish was enough to secure promotion for the second season running, so for our (now) U15s it's another step up as we will be competing in Division 2 this coming season. We'll face tougher ties both in the League and League Cup (with some familiar foes moving up to Division 2 from Division 3 with us), and have again entered the Hampshire Cup; in the latter we got a first

42 HARTLEY WINTNEY JUNIOR FC round bye, so have at least progressed further than we did last season!

We've had some personnel changes pre-season too. We've sadly said goodbye to Joseph Morris and Archie Dowie, who leave the team after 6 and 7 seasons respectively. We've added to the squad though, looking to strengthen in two key areas / afford us movement of a couple of players into new positions.

Jonah Bharat joins us from within HWJFC (he was playing a year up) and will help strengthen the core of our defence with his strength, speed, aerial ability and calmness when in possession. Nayal Hashmi joins us from arch-rivals Hook (great choice Nayal). Technically excellent, Nayal will play through the centre of our midfield; his ability on the ball, with a strong touch, skill and imagination, will help us immensely. The rest of the squad remains as is, although at the time of writing we are captain-less; Tom Jarman having broken his collarbone pre- season and sidelined for another 3 weeks or so!

So I mentioned "this coming season" earlier, and you may be wondering why we haven't started our fixtures already?! Reason is that we have 5 young Mike Dean -wannabes who are currently training to be FA-qualified referees; and the early course modules have been on game days to date. As Co-Chair of HWJFC I am delighted that we as a Club will have 5 players as new referees amongst our ranks in the next month or so; joining the pool of all the many other referees (young and old alike) who take on the (sometimes thankless) task of referring Junior Football (and perhaps higher levels in the game in coming years).

So it's a big good luck and bravo to Finley Auchterlonie, Lewis Flower, Reece Gerard, Finn Lewington and Harry Saunders as they look to earn their ref stripes in the next few weeks. Keep an eye out for a further up- date on our young refs' progress in a future Row match day programme.

Finally, delighted to have the superb Luke Tuffs training the boys again this season. 100% sure that he will get the best out of the U15s and here's hoping for a successful season for our young Harriers. [PA]
