Title of Activity: NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME SPECIAL ANNUAL CAMP – 2019-20 2. Date & venue: DATE: 23.01.2020 – 29.1.2020, PLACE- KOTHULNA TAH: SAONER DISTT: NAGPUR 3. Description of activity: We have an effervescent NSS unit which has been established with an objective of providing a platform for the interested students to participate in social work. The report of the activities of the unit for the academic year 2018-19 has been a record of accomplishments. NSS unit of “Umang Geetai College of Women’s Education”, Panjara, Nagpur organized a special camp in the adopted village, Kothulna from 23-01-2020 to 29-01-2020. The main objective for this camp was based on, to make the village Kothulna aware about Water conservation and Water Harvesting, Women empowerment literacy, Cleaning, Road Safety, Open Defecation etc .The Volunteers of the NSS unit performed many other activities – awareness programmes as Water Harvesting, literacy, Road safety, Health and Hygiene, Construction and Repairs, Communal Harmony etc. AIMS AND OBJECTIVES 1. Understand the community in which they work. 2. Understand themselves in relation to their community. 3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem solving process. 4. Develop among them a sense of social and civic responsibility. 5. Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems. 6. Develop competence required for group living and sharing of responsibilities. 7. Gain skills in mobilizing community participation. 8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitude. 9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters 10. Practice national integration and social harmony. Day – 1 23rd January, 2020, Thursday: Inauguration: On 23rd January, 2020, Thursday morning at 7 am the NSS volunteers reached the Special Annual Camp place of Kothulna village. The NSS volunteers placed their belongings and resided in one of the place in the village. The volunteers after placing their goods in the place, gathered in an open space of the school where the NSS coordinator briefed them about the rules and regulations of the camp, about the different programs and cultural events to be organized. The coordinator also formed teams and delegated different roles and responsibilities to the leaders and members of the team. The team then cleaned the premises of the place and other places nearby the school. NSS volunteers arranged the stage for the inauguration ceremony. The Volunteers rallied into the streets of the village to create awareness among the villagers about the ensuing special camp programme in their village for a period of one week. The inauguration ceremony was held at 12 pm where all the volunteers and the villagers took active part in it. The notable people from the village were the guests for the ceremony. The chief guest for the day was Sarpanch of the village Mr. Harish Chaudhari and Prashant Kevate who served for the betterment of Kothulna village. The ceremony was inaugurated by the lighting of the lamp fulfilled by the guests and other dignitaries were welcomed by NSS Programme Co-ordinator. The inaugural speech was delivered by Mr. Harish Chaudhary, Sarpanch, Kothulna. The Principal of the college addressed the crowd and shared his valuable experience about community service. Sarpanch of the Village and several village people attended the function. Village authorities welcomed the team of volunteers into their village and assured them all sorts of co-operation needed in making the special camp a success. Programme was then followed by refreshment to guests, available villagers and NSS volunteers. Water Conservation Program: The team of NSS Volunteers organized Jagruthi abhiyan , an awareness march on the water conservation and its usage in nearby places and village. The volunteers called out slogans having banners and posters with them. This awareness program gained immense appreciation and was successful in spreading the awareness. A workshop on water literacy and water conservation was organizaed for villagers of our adopted village “ Kothulna” by the Volunteers of NSS unit under the chairmanship of Principal Dr. Atul B. Tekade, NSS programme officer Prof. Dipti Bhagwat, co-programme officer Mr. Nilesh Meshram and NSS volunteers of college for educating and inculcating the various water conservation practices in their respective village under NSS special campaign activity. At 4 in the evening, Prof. Durgesh Birkhede lectured the villagers on the topic ‘water conservation’. The NSS Volunteers performed and organized cultural programs on the theme water conservation. Conversations, skit performance, singing of songs and dance programs were part of the event. The volunteers called out slogans having banners and posters with them. Volunteers of NSS unit highlighted the current status of various rivers of Nagpur and how different teams are working towards creating chain of people who are working in their respective areas for resolving water issues. Volunteers of NSS unit explain about water literacy and water conservation and how village people can take small initiatives from their own self by taking water as per requirement in their regular use and make contribution towards water conservation. During the workshop, students explained various methods and techniques of water conservation to villages through the traditional method of teaching- Blackboard teaching. This awareness program gained immense appreciation and was successful in spreading the awareness. Villagers learn about the methods like, 1. Protection of water from pollution 2. Redistribution of water 3. Rational use of ground water 4. Renovation of traditional water sources. The NSS volunteers prepared a Bandhara on Canal nearby to village to show the way of save water and water harvesting. About 50 volunteers divided themselves into sub groups and went into the streets, lanes and by lanes of the village and organized a cleanliness drive. Volunteers cleaned the village roads, removed dust heaps and cleared the stagnant drainage flows and attempted to create awareness on Cleanliness and hygiene. Day – 2 24th January, 2020, Friday Women Empowerment and Different Govt. schemes for Women: From 6-7.30 am in the morning the volunteers were part of Payer and Yoga practice. Later, the volunteers walked awareness parade. Volunteers also cleaned up different parts of the village and the premises of school. The volunteers took part in Awareness parade where they informed the villagers about the women empowerment that will be organized the same day. The Whole aim of rally was to spread awareness about women’s rights and about their freedom offered by government. Firstly, a public announcement was made and door to door communication done by our volunteers to inform people to avail the session on Women Empowerment & health services. Volunteers requested the villagers, kids to be part of the health camp. “Save Girl & Women Empowerment” are the biggest problems in India. Parents think that girl is not enough to fulfil their dreams. But as we all know that a girl in India like Kalpana Chawala, Gita phogat, P. T. Usha, SainaNehwal, PV Sindhu gold medallist in commonwealth game are the girls in India. In the afternoon session at 3:00 pm, Mr. kamala, Director of phoenix academy, Career Counsellor, have told kothulna people about various government schemes for women. A scheme like “ShishuYojna” which gives investment of 50000 to 100000 how Indian chamber of commerce & Government of India motivated women’s for Empowerment. He also added that behind every successful man there is women, this phrase is famous in all over the world. Our college students organized “Nukkadnatak” on the subject of save girls. In the evening session, the NSS volunteer’s organized a session to educate the villagers with different schemes for women’s and Health safety. Day – 3 25th January, 2020, Saturday Street Play on Water conservation & Importance of Blood Donation: A street play had been organized on the third day by the NSS Volunteers to spread an awareness on Water Conservation and Blood Donation. The survey conducted on the second day showed indicated the risk with which the villagers were using and wasting water. So, the volunteers decided to prepare and present a street play on the same. Many people including children, young people as well as senile saw and appreciated the play. Day – 4 26th January, 2020, Sunday Save Girl Child (Beti Bachao Beti Padhao) The fourth day began with Prarthana and Yoga. The rally was organized in the village by giving different slogans of awareness. Volunteers engaged themselves in cleaning program and awareness parade spreading messages on various sociological issues. NSS volunteers had put up the posters on the theme “Save Girl Child” on the notice board of “Gram Panchayat Office” and “Anganwadi” of Kothulana village to spread awareness. The day continued with the talk by Mrs. Vaishali Fuley, Director of Umang Geetai College of Women’s Education, Nagpur about “Save Girl Child”- Beti Bachao Abhiyan and Women Empowerment. She also addressed that; the priority should be given to education and cleanliness. NSS volunteer’s organized seminar on “Save Girl Child” to create awareness among the villager’s. A street play was also organized by the NSS volunteers to create awareness among the people of village. It was nicely supported by the villagers and youths. The programme was successful and it was attended by 50 students and villagers of Kothulna. In the programme, all the students agreed to convey messages to their relatives and friends on the theme “Save Girl Child”. The villagers were totally benefited from the session. Day – 5 27th January, 2020, Monday The Fifth day began with Prarthana and Yoga. The rally was organized in the village by giving different slogans of awareness. Volunteers engaged themselves in cleaning program and awareness parade spreading messages on various issues.
