This letter will also be published on our website: www.uva.nl/roeterseiland. The latest news about the construction work is published on the website under ‘news items’. Sanding of the concrete floor foundation Nieuwe Achtergracht A 120m2 concrete floor will be cast on Friday, 9 December on the new foundation of the building on Nieuwe Achtergracht, which will need to be sanded. The upper layer will be levelled with sanding machines. The sanding procedure to be carried out when the concrete layer is almost dry will cause some noise disturbance. As the surface area to be cast is not so large, we will start concreting early to ensure that sanding will finish before 7 p.m. The progress of the work, however, is contingent upon the weather (mainly humidity and temperature). If the weather conditions are poor the work will be postponed until the next day. Sound check on installations around the REC A building Our contractor performed several sound checks on different days at varying hours. Several of the checked were carried out in the presence of local residents. Unfortunately, the noise was more persistent than expected and the machine causing the disturbance could not always be traced when the sound check was being carried out. Despite the various sound checks, we regret that it has taken some time to remedy the situation and hope you will accept our sincere apologies for this. Most of the equipment has now been regulated. The building management system has now been programmed to ensure that the boiler installation switches on at 8 a.m. on workdays and at 9 a.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. The users of the building have been duly informed of the consequences of the temperature in the building as a result of switching on the boiler later on in the morning. A flue-gas silencer will be installed in the boiler installation in Building A on Wednesday, 7 December. To accommodate this, sound-insulating material was installed around the flue-gas conduit on 5 December. With the above measures we can safely assume that the sound level produced by the boiler installation will comply with the sound level values imposed by the environmental service. Our reference Optimisation of passageway between Valckenierstraat/Nieuwe Achtergracht A location check was performed together with a representative of the Sarphati block residents’ committee. The results of the meeting were discussed in greater detail by the relevant UvA departments. The location of the barrier will be changed to better accommodate lorries. Adequate space will also be reserved for cyclists. No demolition work between 24 December and 7 January We will endeavour to keep construction work to a minimum in week 52. No demolition work will be carried out on Buildings A, B and C during the above week. Taking into account the scheduled relocation in December, the renovation work on the roof of Building D as well as internal construction work will continue. Building D is located in the centre of the construction site at some distance from the nearby residential area. We therefore expect limited noise disturbance. The occupants of Buildings J and K will move to Building D. Removal traffic will be directed through Valckenierstraat. Internal construction work Internal construction work will continue in a number of buildings already in use. The work will include floor maintenance and altering machines and supplies, for which relocation traffic is required. We trust the above information will be helpful.
