Lusty University of Nevada, Las Vegas While metalheads around the world embrace the engaging storylines of their favorite songs, the influence of canonical literature on heavy metal musicians does not appear to have garnered much interest from the academic world. This essay considers a wide swath of canonical literature from the Bible through the Science Fiction/Fantasy trend of the 1960s and 70s and presents examples of ways in which musicians adapt historical events, myths, religious themes, and epics into their own contemporary art. I have constructed artificial categories under which to place various songs and albums, but many fit into (and may appear in) multiple categories. A few bands who heavily indulge in literary sources, like Rush and Styx, don’t quite make my own “heavy metal” category. Some bands that sit 101 Lusty, “Rocking the Canon” LATCH, Vol. 6, 2013, pp. 101-138 on the edge of rock/metal, like Scorpions and Buckcherry, do. Other examples, like Megadeth’s “Of Mice and Men,” Metallica’s “For Whom the Bell Tolls,” and Cradle of Filth’s “Nymphetamine” won’t feature at all, as the thematic inspiration is clear, but the textual connections tenuous.1 The categories constructed here are necessarily wide, but they allow for flexibility with the variety of approaches to literature and form. A segment devoted to the Bible as a source text has many pockets of variation not considered here (country music, Christian rock, Christian metal).

This play should feel faster. Every transition should be lightening-quick. The internet is theatricalized onstage, and the audience should feel like they're falling faster and faster down an internet rabbit hole (or a shame spiral). When Lauren S announces her virginity on national television, the other characters get a taste of blood. Over the course of the play, they become more and more blood-hungry - until they ultimately devour her. The world should be Shiny and Perfect, until it isn't - until it's full of blood, and weird-smelling butts, and pubic hair.

This article is brought to you by the William & Mary Law School Scholarship Repository. https://scholarship.law.wm.edu/wmjowl HONEST VICTIM SCRIPTING IN THE TWITTERVERSE FRANCINE BANNER* This Article critically analyzes Tweets regarding recent allega- tions of interpersonal violence against celebrities in order to explore societal perceptions of, and expectations about, alleged victims. The Article concludes that Twitter may be viewed as a micro-courtroom in which victims’ veracity and perpetrators’ responses are evaluated, interrogated, and assessed. A key, feminist critique of rape law is that the determination of the perpetrator’s guilt or innocence too often hinges on an assessment of the victim’s character. This is borne out on social networking sites, where terms such as “gold digger,” “slut,” and “ho” are engaged with regularity to describe those who come forward alleging an assault by a public figure. These de- rogatory terms serve not only to discipline the accuser but also to critique parties’ behavior as they forge relationships with legal systems and processes.

  • 'Badboys' of Rock Tour Coming to the 155 Great Allentown Fair
‘Badboys’ of Rock Tour coming to The 155 th Great Allentown Fair Hinder, Papa Roach, Buckcherry to perform on August 29 For release Wednesday, May 9, 2007 Allentown, Pa . The self-proclaimed ‘Badboys’ of Rock, modern rock bands Hinder, Papa Roach and Buckcherry, are coming to The 155 th Great Allentown Fair on Wednesday, August 29. These bands, touted as the successors to the monster rock bands of the ‘70s and ‘80s, are hitting the road together this summer predominantly playing state and county fairs. Their current singles are all over contemporary rock and pop charts. A fourth band to be announced will open their mini-festival type concerts. Tickets for the Allentown Fair’s “Badboys” show are $35 and go on sale starting Saturday, June 2. There will be festival-style standing room in front of the stage and reserved tiered seating under cover in the Fair’s Grandstand. Tickets purchased in advance of the show date include admission into the Fair. The show will start at 7 p.m. Hinder is still pumping out hits off of its “Extreme Behavior” album released in late 2005. They include “Get Stoned,” “Better Than Me” and Hinder’s power ballad, “Lips of an Angel,” that has since been re-recorded by Country singer Jack Ingram who performs at the Fair as part of the Brad Paisley Tour the next day after Hinder’s scheduled appearance. Papa Roach’s current album “Paramour Sessions” has spawned singles “To Be Loved,” and “Forever” getting a lot of airplay. Former hits include “Last Resort” and “Scars.” 2 Buckcherry has perhaps the most obvious “Badboy” tune, “Crazy Bitch,” off of its current album “15.” The band’s latest single on the charts “Everything” follows up one of its best known singles “Lit Up” in popularity.
