PARKS AND RECREATION Parks and Recreation Overview of Facilities and Programs The Department of Parks and Recreation manages 400 parks and open areas in its approximately 6,200 acres of property throughout the City, works with the public to be good stewards of the park system, and provides safe and welcoming opportunities for the public to play, learn, contemplate, and build community. The park system comprises about 10% of the City’s land area; it includes 485 buildings, 224 parks, 185 athletic fields, 122 children's play areas, 24 community centers, 151 outdoor tennis courts, 22 miles of boulevards, an indoor tennis center, two outdoor and eight indoor swimming pools, four golf courses, studios, boat ramps, moorage, fishing piers, trails, camps, viewpoints and open spaces, a rock climbing site, a conservatory, a classical Japanese garden, and a waterfront aquarium. The development of this system is guided by the Seattle Parks & Recreation Plan 2000, the 38 neighborhood plans, the Joint Athletic Facilities Development Program with the Seattle School District, the 1999 Seattle Center and Community Centers Levy, the 2000 Parks Levy, and DPR’s annual update to the Major Maintenance Plan. 2000 Parks Levy In November 2000, Seattle voters approved a $198.2 million levy lid lift for Parks and Recreation. The levy closely follows the plan forged by the Pro Parks 2000 Citizens Planning Committee. The levy is designed to fund more than 100 projects to improve maintenance and enhance programming of existing parks, including the Woodland Park Zoo; acquire, develop and maintain new neighborhood parks, green spaces, playfields, trails and boulevards; and add out-of-school and senior activities.

The 2016 Nebraska Christian Dinner & Benefit Auction 57 Years of “Building Lives for Eternity” Nebraska Christian Schools Central City, Nebraska www.nebraskachristian.org Saturday, March 19, 2016 Please bring this catalog with you on Saturday evening. Dear Friends of Nebraska Christian, On behalf of the Nebraska Christian Schools family, we would like to welcome you to our Dinner and Benefit Auction. Our many families, dedicated teachers, administration, and staff want you to know that they appreciate your presence and the support you show by your enthusiastic participation in the bidding this evening. We are grateful for the generosity of so many in giving their time, talent, and resources to this event. We know that the financial gain realized is only part of the benefit we receive. We consider the relationships formed during the last twelve auctions a great blessing to us and to the school. With thankful hearts, Kristy Langemeier, Special Events Coordinator Deana Leonard, Special Events Assistant The mission of Nebraska Christian Schools is to assist the family and church by providing a Christ-centered education, equipping students with a Biblical worldview, and encouraging a love relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. The reason for our Benefit Auction is...... Private educational institutions such as Nebraska Christian Schools face the challenge of providing quality education without the help of tax dollars. Nebraska Christian is also not under the shelter of denominational support. Parents of students must bear the majority of the costs involved in educating their students, but tuition alone does not meet all the demands. We are thankful for friends like you who invest in the lives of our students as they are trained to impact the world for Jesus Christ.

  • 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Force Majeure Vineyard
2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Force Majeure Vineyard Overview Force Majeure Vineyards produces small quantities of Bordeaux- and Rhone-based wines from Eastern Washington’s celebrated Red Mountain AVA. Launched by Paul and Susan McBride in 2004 under the name Grand Reve Vintners, the winery has been making highly-acclaimed, terroir-driven wines under the Force Majeure moniker since the 2009 vintage. The winery achieved critical praise for its Collaboration Series that featured fruit from the iconic Ciel de Cheval vineyard vinified by some of Washington’s top winemakers. In 2010 Force Majeure began producing wine from their Estate Vineyard, a steep, rocky site on the upper slopes of Red Mountain. In 2014, the winery hired Todd Alexander - a talented winemaker who had previously worked at Napa Valley’s Bryant Family Vineyard - to serve as head winemaker and general manager. Vineyard and Winemaking Our Estate Force Majeure vineyard was the first planting on the steep, upper slopes of Red Mountain. Its nine distinct soil types were formed by ancient floods, winds and volcanic activity. To accommodate the complexity of the soils and terrain, the vineyard was divided into 26 micro-blocks. All varieties, clonal selections, trellising and irrigation systems were carefully matched to the conditions of each individual block. Tasting Notes Our flagship wine, this bottling of Cabernet Sauvignon showcases the distinctive character of our Estate vineyard. It is quite dark with a powerful bouquet marked by cedar, earth and black fruit. The flavors are rich, concentrated and complete. The generous underpinnings of tannins are woven discreetly into the wine’s finish.

Truthfully, our house would likely resemble a forlorn junk store without the necessary and mitigating oversight of my wife. Vintage anything connotes images of nostalgia, a stroll back to the way things used to be. Better? Not necessarily, but we all love to peer into the annals of time and reflect, ponder, and contemplate. Vintage Veritas not only has an alliterative ring to it, but communicates something more meaningful. Veritas is a Latin word meaning “truth.” The pursuit of truth has been the fancy of poets, philosophers, and theologians. In John 18, where we read of the arrest of Jesus and His subsequent interrogation by the governor, Jesus boldly declares His purpose for coming into the world – to bear witness to the truth. Pilate asks, “What is truth?” While the text doesn’t indicate Pilate sought an answer from Jesus, he did then declare, “I find no guilt in this man.” As we reflect on the truth of Scripture, the embodiment of truth is indeed found in a person: our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
