ACCESS to the HOTEL (Laforet Gora) ACCESS TO THE HOTEL (Laforet Gora) • This guide shows the typical routes from Narita Airport or Haneda Airport to the Hotel. • After 16:00 on Sep. 23, we will pick you up at Gora station. Our guide stands in front of the Gora station exit at 16:00 ∼ 19:30 on Sep. 23. In this period, the Hotel operates the shuttle service. After 19:30, please call LOC phone or e‐mail to LOC for picking you up. • On Sep. 23, we will prepare the light meal as the ice breaker. If you arrive late at night, we recommend to take a lunch box, which is called Ekiben in Japanese, sold at stations or on trains. • The hotel locates at a height of about 650 meter. The mean temperature is about 15 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit). It gets cold in the mornings and evenings. At the Narita Airport, you purchase the JR tickets for Odawara, which are one fare ticket (from Narita Airport to Odawara), one limited express ticket (from Narita Airport to Shinagawa, i.e. Narita Express), and one Shinkansen express ticket (from Shinagawa to Odawara). 2. Narita Airport to Shinagawa via the JR Narita Express train (JR east). 3. Shinagawa to Odawara via the JR Tokaido Shinkansen (Kodama super‐express) train (JR central). Note: All Kodama super‐express but only some Hikari super‐express stop at Odawara station. All Nozomi super‐express and most of Hikari super‐express do not stop there. 4. At Odawara station, you purchase the ticket for Hakone Tozan Train (and Hakone Tozan cable car, if need). 5. Odawara to Gora via the Hakone Tozan Train. It is needed to transfer at the Hakone‐Yumoto station along the way, because the rail gauge and the voltage electricity are changed. In ordinary cases, we will pick you up at Gora station. Our guide stands in front of the Gora station exit at 16:00 ‐ 19:30 on Sep. 23. In this period, the Hotel operates the shuttle service. After 19:30, please call LOC phone or e‐mail to LOC for picking you up. When you arrive at very early, you should take a taxi to the Hotel (about 5 minutes). 6. (optional) Gora to Naka‐Gora via the Hakone Tozan cable car. After an about 5 minutes walk from Naka‐Gora, you can reach the Hotel. Note: The last train of Hakone Tozan cable car leaves Gora at 19:05. [IMPORTANT] You MUST get off the RIGHT side door (if cable car bounds for Sounzan). At the end of the summer school, your return to Narita Airport is the reverse of these steps. NOTE: This travel route is one of the typical routes from Narita Airport to the Hotel. However, other routes from Narita Airport to Odawara exists. Fare from Narita Airport to Naka‐Gora 1. JR lines You can purchase the following tickets at Narita Airport. (1) fare ticket from Narita Airport to Odawara (basic fare) 2,940 yen (2) limited express ticket from Narita Airport to Shinagawa (N’EX) (reserved seat car only) ordinary car: 1,660 yen, green car (first class): 3,150 yen (3) super‐express ticket from Shinagawa to Odawara (Shinkansen) ordinary car with non‐reserved seat: 1,680 yen ordinary car with reserved seat: 2,190 yen green car (first class): 2,920 yen We recommend that you use ordinary car with reserved seat. In this case, the total costs 6,790 yen for JR lines. 2. Hakone‐Tozan train and cable car You purchase the Hakone‐Tozan train (and cable car) ticket at Odawara station. Odawara to Gora: 650 yen Odawara to Naka‐Gora: 890 yen Note: The limited express operates between Odawara and Hakone‐Yumoto. It costs additional fare, so we recommend not to use this limited express. Narita Airport At both terminal 1 and 2, the JR ticket counter and gate are one floor below the arrival lobby. You can purchase all JR line tickets at the ticket office (Midori‐no‐madoguchi) or the Travel Service Center. In our recommended route, you purchase the following three tickets at the above office. (1) One fare ticket (from Narita Airport to Odawara) (2) One limited express ticket (i.e. Narita express) JR gate (from Narita Airport to Shinagawa) (3) One super‐express (Shinkansen) ticket (from Shinagawa to Odawara) JR ticket office JR Travel Service Center (Midori‐no‐madoguchi) Tracks of Narita Airport Station. Sign of the JR ticket office (Midori‐no‐madoguchi). Major JR stations have this office. Check the train information board. Transfer at Shinagawa Station The Narita express arrives at track #13 ‐ #15. You can find the Shinkansen signs easily and follow them. Shinkansen trains which are bound for Odawara, Nagoya, Shin‐Osaka leave from track #23 ‐ #24. If you don’t have the super‐express ticket, please purchase it at the ticket office (Midori‐no‐madoguchi) near the transfer gates for Shinkansen. Shinkansen sign 15 Shinkansen transfer gate. Transfer at Odawara Station When you go out the Shinkansen gate, stack the fare ticket and super‐express ticket (c)WikiPedia in pairs, and insert them. Hakone Tozan line Ticketing and Gate After going through the gate, follow red line on the floor. JR ticket Go straight (for your return trip) Information (9:30 – 17:30) If you find this, English is OK. go straight. Hakone Tozan train (After Hakone‐Navi) Ticketing for Hakone Tozan Train How to purchase a ticket at Odawara station? (1) (2) English (c)Odakyu Touch the English button in the upper‐right corner of screen. (3) (5) Hakone Tozan Touch the HAKONETOZAN LINE. (B) (A) (4) Check the fare to your destination. (C) (D) Fare table is located above ticket vending machine. Insert coins (A) and bills (B). A ticket (C) (and change (D)) will be issued. From Odawara to Gora: 650 yen. From Odawara to Naka‐Gora: 890 yen. Touch the fare you checked at (1). Hakone‐Yumoto station Transfer is needed at Hakone‐Yumoto. Trains from Odawara arrive at Track #1 or #2. After you get off the train, you go straight forward. The next train which you board departs from Track #3. (After Hakone‐Navi) Gora Station Our guide stands in front of the station exit at 16:00 – 19:30. In this period, the Hotel operates the shuttle service. After 19:30, please call LOC phone or e‐mail to LOC for picking you up. Before 16:00, you take a cable car to Naka‐Gora, and walk about 5 minutes to the Hotel. PICK UP Guide Left: Cable car, Right: Train (After Hakone‐Navi) Naka‐Gora station At the Naka‐Gora station, both sides of doors will open. [IMPORTANT] You MUST get off the RIGHT side door (if cable car is bound for Sounzan). If you got off the opposite side, you wait the next cable car, and go through the car to the correct side. HOTEL For Gora For Sounzan You can see the Coca‐Cola vending machine at the correct exit.     TOKYO DAY 3 – DAY TRIP TO HAKONE (FROM SHINJUKU) BUYING TICKETS ODAKYU SIGHTSEEING SERVICE CENTER, SHINJUKU STATION I recommend getting your tickets 1-2 days before your trip, and check the weather forecast ahead of time. Two things I recommend purchasing from here: The Hakone Freepass (5140 Yen): This gives you unlimited access (over 2 days, I believe) to almost all methods of transportation in Hakone—at least the ones that I talk about in this guide. There are a couple of buses that you won’t be able to take, but all the touristy places you’ll definitely be able to get to with this pass. I never did the math to see if you actually save any money, but I think it’s worth it just for the convenience. It saves you from having to purchase individual tickets as you go, and given the number of times you’ll be hopping on and off different trains/buses/etc., having the freepass just makes getting around faster Limited Express Add-On for Odakyu’s Romancecar (890 Yen one way): Highly recommend getting this upgrade. The Hakone Freepass gets you a ride on a local train to Hakone-Yumoto, but it’s not direct (you have to switch trains at some point) AND it takes 30 minutes longer. With the Romancecar, you have reserved seats, it’s a much more comfortable ride, and you’ll be there in 1-1.5 hours. 2 TOURING HAKONE 1.
