The scholarship program is an integral factor behind these success stories. Our graduates are important role models in their communities and now we are seeing the next generation of young people coming through, following in the footsteps of the students before them. • Jamie Durie OAM
Jamie Durie OAM MC, television host & businessman Jamie Durie is an engaging MC with passion, energy and immense charisma. Jamie Durie is also, undoubtedly, one of Australia’s most successful exports and recognisable talents. A qualified horticulturalist and landscape designer, he is the founder and Director of the international award-winning company PATIO Landscape Architecture & Design. Jamie Durie is also a television host and producer, the author of six best-selling titles and has his own successful line of merchandised product PATIO by Jamie Durie. A committed environmentalist and pioneer of ‘The Outdoor Room’ concept in Australia, Jamie has completely changed the face of landscape design, inspiring a whole new generation to rediscover their garden. Born in Manly, northern Sydney, Jamie spent most of his childhood in the mining town of Tom Price in north Western Australia. Like most Australians, he loves the outdoors and his deep connection with nature guides him in creating the ultimate outdoor living spaces. His inspiration comes from the vast natural beauty of the Australian landscape, extensive international travel and a passion for Eastern culture and lifestyle through his Sri Lankan heritage. He successfully combines these elements to create his own unique style and approach to garden design. Jamie has hosted many of Australia’s top-rating television programs, including The Outdoor Room, Australia’s Best Backyards, Backyard Blitz —for which he received the Logie award for Most Popular Male Talent, as well as six consecutive Logie awards for Most Popular Lifestyle Program, The Block and Torvill and Dean’s Dancing on Ice. He also hosts America’s longest running gardening program The Victory Garden, which airs on PBS, and appears regularly on The Oprah Winfrey Show offering garden advice and inspiration.

  • Judith Lucy Comedian/Writer/Actor
Judith Lucy Comedian/Writer/Actor Judith Lucy started performing stand-up comedy thirty years ago, and since then all her shows have been utterly, achingly, ‘provide warnings to asthmatics’ funny. Judith is a best-selling, award winning stand-up comedian, selling out huge venues across the country, playing theatres in big cities and across the regions. Rivetingly honest, with a Gatling gun gag rate, no one sees just one Judith Lucy show. Judith teamed up with good friend Denise Scott and created the critically acclaimed, smash hit stage show Disappointments. Together they won the 2017 Melbourne Comedy Festival’s People’s Choice Award, performed a run at Soho Theatre in London’s West End and sold out shows all over Australia. When Judith’s not on stage she’s the best-selling author of two devastatingly honest, hilarious books and created two ABC series: Judith Lucy’s Spiritual Journey and Judith Lucy Is All Woman, both of which were nominated for AACTA awards. In 2020, Judith has been seen back in her regular role on ABC TV’s smash hit show The Weekly with Charlie Pickering, has had her critically acclaimed stand-up show Judith Lucy Vs Men released on Amazon Prime Video, released a podcast series for the ABC Overwhelmed and Dying and signed her third book deal. So, there’s not much on. Basically, Judith is really funny, super busy and anyone who sees her agrees and they keep coming back. A simple but effective formula. “Great comedians have time for a sip of water after delivering a ripper punchline.

PETER HELLIAR Comedian/Writer/Director/Broadcaster/Presenter Peter Helliar has been one of Australia’s favourite comedians since his first appearance on our TV screens as a core cast member on the Logie Award winning Rove back in 1999. Pete has performed stand up for more than twenty years, selling out shows right across the country, where he makes the difficult business of being funny look dead easy. Now the Gold Logie Nominee is making people laugh four nights a week on Network Ten’s The Project, the beloved show where the news is delivered differently. A man of many talents, Peter created and co-produced two series of the award winning It’s A Date for ABC TV, and How to Stay Married for Network Ten which premiered in 2018 and will return in 2020. He has directed episodes of both shows. He is also the author of the much loved children’s book series, Franky Fish which is published by Hardie Grant/Egmont. In 2018, Frankie Fish was voted one of Australia’s Top 50 kids books in the annual Better Reading Top 50 Kids Books poll and Frankie Fish and the Sonic Suitcase was shortlisted for the ABIAs for Book of the Year for Younger Children in 2018. Peter Helliar used to be Strauchanie and his French accent has not improved. “Give Peter Helliar a stage, a microphone, some bright lights and a captive audience and he shows why he is one of the nation’s favourite comedians” Sunday Mail “Wonderful… a bizarre revelation” The Age, Melbourne “Peter Helliar makes the difficult business of being funny look dead easy.

Backyard Blitz - Ep 9 Our Little Hero 8 August Our Little Hero The brave story of three year old Sophie Delezio has captured the hearts of the nation. Just before Christmas last year, a car crashed through the front of a childcare centre in suburban Sydney and burst into flames. Sophie was caught underneath the car and suffered the worst injuries of all the young victims of this terrible tragedy. Sophie has undergone more than 6 months of extensive operations and has many more years to go. The Backyard Blitz team wanted to show their support for Sophie and her family by building a garden to suit her new needs. Backyard Blitz also recognises the extraordinary work that the staff of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead has done for Sophie and thousands like her, by giving corporate and public Australia the opportunity to donate to paediatric burns units around the country.
