  • Backyard Blitz - Ep 9 Our Little Hero 8 August
Backyard Blitz - Ep 9 Our Little Hero 8 August Our Little Hero The brave story of three year old Sophie Delezio has captured the hearts of the nation. Just before Christmas last year, a car crashed through the front of a childcare centre in suburban Sydney and burst into flames. Sophie was caught underneath the car and suffered the worst injuries of all the young victims of this terrible tragedy. Sophie has undergone more than 6 months of extensive operations and has many more years to go. The Backyard Blitz team wanted to show their support for Sophie and her family by building a garden to suit her new needs. Backyard Blitz also recognises the extraordinary work that the staff of The Children’s Hospital at Westmead has done for Sophie and thousands like her, by giving corporate and public Australia the opportunity to donate to paediatric burns units around the country. Call the appropriate number in your state to donate to this worthy cause. Click here for all details. Backyard Blitz - Ep 9 Our Little Hero 8 August Design intent Landscape designer, Jamie Durie, has come up with a fantastic, functional and fun garden design to suit the needs of the whole family. A colourful treatment of the concrete slab and a raised deck provides two distinct zones - one for play and one for relaxing. A shadesail as well as an automated Vergola will provide shade and weather protection all year round. Some clever plantings into raised garden beds provide further division of this exposed backyard creating a sense of excitement and mystery.

  • Big Boat Review
Big Boat Review ran through the revs to record fuel consumption, spun the wheel a few times, said “oooh” in the engineroom then handed the keys back. In dreary bat caves, redolent with Liquid The great Paper fumes, we’d clack away on typewriters, transcribing shorthand notes that had Sir Isaac Pitman rolling in his grave. “The engine used 32lt/ hr at WOT for 19.2 knots of boatspeed …” So dry, when we were supposed to be getting wet. Not a bucket and spade in sight. entertainer But now, thanks to the reality TV explosion in this lucky country, the task of testing new boats Mark Rothfield endures a test of Riviera’s has become, in a word, unreal. The marketing gurus are obliged to provide a new 61 Series II Enclosed Flybridge. five-star tropical experience or shameless publicity event to pin the test on. We writers demand tucker that is pucker, prepared by a chef (not a cook) and accompanied by either French bubbles or boutique beers. A Gold Coast meter maid must serve it. You half expect Jamie Durie to pot a few ferns in the cockpit. It’s all about the ‘sizzle’, you see. The sizzle of trawler-fresh seafood on the hotplate and the sizzle of the sale, for at last someone has realised that people buy boats for lifestyle, not strictly performance. And thus it was with deliciously high expectations that I boarded a Riviera of some sort on a recent fine day at Runaway Bay, Queensland. White. Rather big. Enclosed bridge so as not to stir my bouffant.
