Upper Hunter Shire Citizen of the Year 2018 was awarded to Linda Gant and Tarnisha Winsor was chosen as Young Citizen of the Year. Both women are residents of Cassilis. These awards were presented by Deputy Mayor Maurice Collison on behalf of Mayor Wayne Bedggood. Indigenous stockmen Davin Lorraine and Stewart Foster have arrived from the north ahead of the competition for some training. The pair have been sponsored by the Aboriginal Development Benefi t Trust, David & Claire Paradice & the King of the Ranges. Davin, who calls Mornington Island in the Gulf of Carpentaria, his home, works for the Heytesbury Cattle Company which owns six stations spanning 2.5 million hectares across NT and WA. Among these is the Victoria River Downs Station which is now run as four stand- alone stations. One of these is Moolooloo Station where Davin is located. Stewart is from Doomadgee in the Gulf and works on Morstone Downs Station, a property of some 176,000 hectares near Camooweal, Queensland. Morstone runs approximately 15,000 head of Brahman and Brahman/ Charbray cattle.
