Message from the CHANCELLOR I feel immensely pleased to write these words for the Prospectus 2019-20 of the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar and felicitate the management, faculty and students for stepping ahead with success in their-un-ending journey of learning and disseminating knowledge. Here starts a new phase of the journey which encompasses certain milestones to be surmounted by all. The youngsters who qualify securing their seats at various campuses of this prestigious institution equally deserve congratulations as well, since it must have been the fulfillment of their long cherished desire. There can never be the best investment as against education especially on part of both parents and their wards. Although the higher learning carries greater challenges, yet it also offers competitive opportunities to the respective individuals to securing better and productive future both for themselves and the society. Providing quality learning and research facilities to students and scholars is the common norm on part of every successful institution of the kind world over and the University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar too bears no exception in this connection. Being the pioneer institution of its kind in the province, this University carries rich legacy of achievements when it comes to promotion of education and knowledge in almost all the streams of engineering and technology as per contemporary requirements. Beyond doubt this University has been a trend setter in this province, in particular. Today a large number engineers and experts graduated from here are enjoying lead roles in their respective disciplines both within the country and abroad. We all have great expectations from our youngsters aspiring to join the fields of their choice under the umbrella cover of this history making institution. SHAH FARMAN Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa ii Message from the VICE CHANCELLOR Welcome to the first portal of information i.e UET Peshawar's Undergraduate Prospectus 2019-20 with an in-depth understanding of admission rules and array of engineering and non-engineering disciplines offered at our Main Campus Peshawar, Abbottabad, Bannu and Kohat. After a rigorous competition and transparent admission process, you are embarking on a journey that you never explored earlier. Having inducted as our undergraduate student, you are certainly fortunate to be part of this fraternity with teachers who are supported by a highly motivated administrative staff. UET has grown into four faculties of engineering and non-engineering programs now; Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Faculty of Civil, Agricultural and Mining Engineering, Faculty of Mechanical, Chemical and Industrial Engineering and Faculty of Architecture, Allied Sciences and Humanities. Your selection of a program requires careful deliberation as it will determine your career path. This Prospectus gives you enough guidelines given on respective pages. Go through them, check the faculty and Program Educational Objectives (PEO’s) so that you know what are you expected to learn after the completion of your four-year study. UET Peshawar has zero tolerance for student politics, therefore, our conduct and discipline rules are strictly followed by the respective committees. Welcome to UET Peshawar Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Hussain iii GOVERNING BODIES SENATE The Senate is the highest statutory body of the University and has the power of general supervision over the University. The Senate has all powers of the University not expressly vested in an Authority or Officer by University Model Act and all other powers not expressly mentioned in the Act that are necessary for the performance of its functions. The Senate consists of the following: nThe Chancellor, who shall be its Chairperson nThe Pro-Chancellor nThe Vice Chancellor nOne member of the Provincial Assembly of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be nominated by the Speaker of the said Assembly. nA retired judge to be nominated by Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court. nSecretary of the relevant Administrative Department of Govt. or his nominee not below the rank of an Additional Secretary. nThe Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, or his nominee not below the rank of an Additional Secretary. nThe Secretary to Government, Finance Department, or his nominee not below the rank of an Additional Secretary. nThe Secretary to Government, Establishment Department, or his nominee not below the rank of an Additional Secretary. nThe Chairman, Higher Education Commission or his nominee not below the rank of Director General. nOne eminent or distinguished graduates of the University who are not its employees to be nominated by the Chancellor. nTwo persons from the academic community of the Province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa or the country, other than an employee of the University, at the level of professor or Principal, to be appointed by the Chancellor. nFour University Teachers, including one Professor, one Associate Professor, one Assistant Professor and one Lecturer to be elected by teachers of their respective cadres from amongst themselves. nFour persons from society at large being persons of distinction in the fields of administration, management, education, academics, law, accountancy, medicine, fine arts, architecture, industry, agriculture, science, technology and engineering with a view to create diversity and balance across the various fields, to be nominated by the Chancellor. nOne University Administrative Officer to be elected from amongst all the Administrative Officers in the prescribed manner. SYNDICATE The Syndicate is the executive body of the University, subject to the provisions of the Act and Statutes, exercise general supervision over the affairs and management of the University. Members of the Syndicate are: nThe Vice Chancello, who shall be its Chairperson nA retired judge to be nominated by Chief Justice of Peshawar High Court nAll the Deans of the faculties of the University nSecretary of the relevant administrative Department or his nominee not below the rank of an Additional Secretary. nThe Secretary to Government, Higher Education Department, or his nominee not below the rank of a Deputy Secretary. nThe Secretary to Government, Establishment Department, or his nominee not below the rank of Additional Secretary. nThe Secretary to Government, Finance Department, or his nominee not below the rank of Additional Secretary. nTwo Principals (preferably one male and one female) of affiliated colleges to be nominated by the Academic Council. nOne Professor, One Associate Professor, One Assistant Professor and one Lecturer of the University to be elected by teachers of their respective cadres in the manner as may be prescribed by Statutes. nOne Principal or Chairman or Director of the Teaching Department or Institute or Centre to be elected from amongst themselves in accordance with the prescribed Statutes. nOne administrative officer to be elected from amongst themselves in a manner as may be prescribed by Statutes. nRegistrar nTreasurer nOne nominee of the Commission not below the rank of an advisor or member. nOne person of eminence to be nominated by the Chancellor. iv ACADEMIC COUNCIL The Academic Council is the principal academic body of the University, subject to provisions of the Act-2016 and the statutes, has the powers to lay down proper standards of instruction, research and examinations and to regulate and promote the academic life of the University. The Academic Council consists of the following: nThe Vice Chancellor, who shall be its Chairperson nThe Chairpersons of Teaching Departments or Directors of academic institutes/units nThe Deans nAll Professors including Emeritus and Meritorious Professors nSix university teachers including two Associate Professors, two Assistant Professors and two lecturers to be elected from amongst themselves in the manner prescribed by Statutes. nTwo Principals, preferably one female, of affiliated colleges, one each from public and private sector, to be nominated by the relevant administrative Secretary of the Government department. nOne Principal of the constituent college, to be nominated by the Senate. nThe Director Admissions nThe Controller of Examinations nThe Registrar, who shall be its member-cum-secretary MAIN CAMPUS LAYOUT PLAN 770’-0” Hostel Road Directorate of
