Principal Activities The principal activities of Kenya Airports Authority are: * To construct, operate and maintain aerodromes and other related facilities; * To construct or maintain aerodromes on an agency basis on the request of any Government department: * To provide such other amenities or facilities for passengers and other persons making use of the services or the facilities provided by the Authority * Construct any other necessary or desirable works required for the purposes of the Authority; * Control the construction and use of prescribed aerodromes; * Carry on any business that may be necessary or desirable for the purposes of the Authority and act as an agent for the Government in the provision of any agreed functions; * Acquire, construct, manufacture, maintain or repair any works, plants or apparatus necessary or desirable for the purposes of the Authority; * Determine, impose and levy rates, charges, dues or fees for any services performed by the Authority, or for use by any person of the facilities provided by the Authority, or for the grant to any person of a licence, permit or certificate. The re-based Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Republic of Kenya (hereinafter, Kenya) figures of USD 58.1 Billion in 2014 elevated Kenya to a Lower Middle Income Country, one of the largest economies in Sub-Saharan Africa and amongst the fastest growing in the world. Additionally, Kenya is located in the center of East Africa, and is expected the more economic growth as the economic, commercial and logistical hub in East and Central Africa. JKIA is a sole international airport at the capital city of Kenya as well as the gateway to East and Central Africa. The number of passenger using JKIA decreased in 2008 and 2013 following respective elections, however in later years it was increased smoothly, with the number of annual international passengers reaching 3.9 million, domestic passengers 1.4 million and cargo volume 240 thousand tons in 2015. Kenya aims at being a middle income providing high quality life for all citizens by the year 2030 Dec. in “Kenya Vision 2030", launched July, 2008.

    PRESS RELEASE: Kenya Airways Resumes Domestic Passenger Flights Kenya Airways to resume domestic services with 2 daily flights to Mombasa & 1 daily to Kisumu Nairobi, July 12 2020… Kenya Airways (KQ) will resume its domestic flights on Wednesday 15 July 2020, following the lifting of the restriction of movement in and out of Nairobi and Mombasa counties as directed by H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta. KQ has been working closely with the Government of Kenya through the Ministry of Health and Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) to implement a wide range of safety measures and protocols as they gear up for the resumption of passenger services. The airline will fly two times daily to the coastal city of Mombasa and once daily to the lakeside city of Kisumu as it continues to review the option of increasing frequencies as demand picks.     MINISTRY OF HEALTH SHORT TERM CONSULTANCY – DEVELOPMENT OF FIVE (5) YEARS STRATEGIC PLAN FOR SERVICE DELIVERY FOR PORT HEALTH SERVICES KENYA 1.0 Background Port Health Services is a Division in the Ministry of Health that serves as the first line of defense against communicable diseases associated with migration of people, conveyances and cargo. Its functions are guided by three key legislations: 1) Public Health Act CAP 242; 2) Food Drugs and Chemical Substances Act Cap 254 and; 3) International Health Regulations (2005) amongst others. Its mission is to offer comprehensive and effective services to Kenyans/ travelers while ensuring protection from Public Health Events of International Concern (PHEIC) through law enforcement and use of appropriate precautionary measures and interventions. In pursuit of this mission, Port Health constitutes various health cadres namely, public health officers, nurses, clinicians and laboratory technologists so as to carry out the following activities: 1. Disease surveillance 2. Emergency preparedness and response 3. Food safety and quality control 4. Sanitation, vector and vermin control 5. Laboratory Services Though we have thirty four (34) points of entry, Port Health Services is established in the following entry points, namely; Lungalunga, Moi Page 1 of 5 International Airport, Taita Taveta, Illasit, Namanga, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Wilson airport, Isebania, Busia, Malaba, Lwakhakha, Suam, Nadapal, Lokichoggio Airport, Moyale, Malindi, Shimoni, Eldoret International Airport, Kisumu International Airport, Wajir Airport, Ukunda Airport, Kilindini Port, Mombasa Old Port, Lamu, Muhuru Bay, Mbita Point and Isiolo. Kenya is highly exposed to the risk of importation of diseases of international concern given it serves as a regional transport hub for East and Central Africa.
