The NAICEC is a flagship project under the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife and is aligned to the Kenya Vision 2030 and National Tourism Strategy. It is envisioned that the development will be a mixed use facility that combines a purpose built Convention & Exhibition facility of international standards. The key capacity parameters for the convention facility is a 2,500 seat plenary hall, 15,000 square meter exhibition hall and 105,000 square meter precinct parking lot. It will also include a cultural centre a state of the art 200 room 5 star and 200 room 3 star hotels. The site is located in Nairobi 18 km from the CBD on an 83 acre land along Langata/ Forest Edge Road, 10km from the Nairobi’s Central Business District. The financial viability assessment has been carried out based on the assumptions that debt to equity ratio remains unchanged at 70:30 at all times; a CAPEX grant of up to 25% of the project cost for the Convention Centre; and a 20 year concession limit. Development of NAICEC has been proposed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement as per the Value for Money Analysis (VfM) which compared the total costs of delivering the project using traditional public sector procurement model and Public Private Partnership.
