Sumber radikal bebas mudah dijumpai dalam lingkungan sehari-hari, seperti asap rokok, obat tertentu, makanan dalam kemasan, bahan aditif, dan lain-lain. Radikal bebas merupakan senyawa yang mengandung elektron tidak berpasangan yang sangat reaktif mencari pasangan elektronnya yang dapat bereaksi dengan molekul sel tubuh sehingga dapat menginduksi penyakit kanker, arteriosklerosis dan penuaan dini, disebabkan oleh kerusakan jaringan karena oksidasi. Radikal bebas ini dapat dinetralisir oleh antioksidan. Sumber antioksidan dapat berupa antioksidan sintetik maupun alami, namun antioksidan dari bahan sintetik memberikan efek samping yang cukup berbahaya bagi kesehatan sehingga dicari sumber antioksidan alami yang lebih aman untuk dikembangkan salah satunya dari tumbuhan. Penelitian sebelumnya mengungkapkan bahwa daun beberapa spesies genus Canarium L. mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan yang kuat. Kemungkinan daun kenari (Canarium indicum L.) juga berpotensi besar mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan, karena semakin dekat kekerabatan semakin banyak senyawa fitokimia yang mirip termasuk senyawa yang mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kandungan fitokimia, menguji aktivitas antioksidan, menetapkan kadar flavonoid total dan mengetahui hubungan kadar flavonoid total dengan aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak dan fraksi daun kenari. Serbuk kering daun kenari diekstraksi dengan ultasonikasi menggunakan pelarut etanol 96%, kemudian ekstrak dilarutkan campuran air dan etanol dan dilakukan ekstraksi cair-cair (fraksinasi) dengan pelarut n-heksana dan etil asetat. Pengukuran aktivitas antioksidan menggunakan metode DPPH dan penetapan kadar flavonoid vii Digital Repository Universitas Jember total menggunakan spektrofotometer UV-Vis dengan metode kolorimetri menggunakan pereaksi AlCl dengan standar kuersetin. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan ekstrak etanol, fraksi etil asetat dan fraksi etanol-air mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan yang sangat kuat dengan nilai IC berturut-turut adalah 25,294; 20,135; dan 28,806 μg/ml. Sedangkan fraksi n-heksana memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang lemah dengan nilai IC 175,245 μg/ml. Kadar flavonoid total pada ekstrak etanol, fraksi n-heksana, fraksi etil asetat dan fraksi etanol-air berturut-turut adalah 2,624; 0,499; 3,846; dan 1,596 gram kuersetin ekuivalen per gram ekstrak/fraksi. Hubungan antara aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak dan fraksi daun kenari dengan kadar flavonoid totalnya diperoleh persamaan regresi linier y = -41,896 + 152,079; r² = 0.632. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa 63,2 % aktivitas antioksidan ekstrak dan fraksi daun kenari merupakan kontribusi dari senyawa flavonoid dan 36,8 % karena kehadiran metabolit sekunder yang mempunyai aktivitas antioksidan lainnya. viii Digital Repository Universitas Jember PRAKATA Puji syukur ke hadirat Allah SWT atas segala limpahan rahmat dan karunia- Nya sehingga penulis dapat meyelesaikan skripsi yang berjudul “Uji Aktivitas Antioksidan dan Penetapan Kadar Flavonoid Total Ekstrak dan Fraksi Daun Kenari (Canarium indicum L.)”. The country has approximately 12,050 species of plants, which account for 8% of estimated plant species found globally. However, the forest cover of Thailand is under threats: habitat degradation, illegal logging, shifting cultivation and human settlement are the main causes of the reduction in forest area. As a result, rates of biodiversity loss have been high for some decades. The most effective tool to conserve biodiversity is the designation of protected areas (PA). The effective and most scientifically robust approach for designing networks of reserve systems is systematic conservation planning, which is designed to identify conservation priorities on the basis of analysing spatial patterns in species distributions and associated threats. The designation of PAs of Thailand were initially based on expert consultations selecting the areas that are suitable for conserving forest resources, not systematically selected. Consequently, the PA management was based on individual management plans for each PA. The previous work has also identified that no previous attempt has been made to apply the principles and methods of systematic conservation planning. Additionally, tree species have been neglected in previous analyses of the coverage of PAs in Thailand.

Its lowland equatorial rain forest has never been logged and tall emergent species to 35 m tall and 124 cm diameter persist. Since 1900, 499 plant species (2 lycophytes, 25 ferns, 39 monocots and 433 dicots) have been recorded. This year-long survey refound 425 species, including the rare Tarenna rudis (Rubiaceae), a local endemic found only in Selangor state. The multi-layered structure of lowland dipterocarp forest (16 Diperocarpaceae species were recorded) is intact. However, with diminishing size, the edge effect is more pronounced with secondary forest species, from trees to herbs, becoming established. In 2009, declared as the KL Forest Eco Park, it is important for its biodiversity, history, accessibility to the public for recreation (forest walks), scientific study, education (natural history, bird-watching, etc), as well as serving as a green lung in the bustling city.

The aqueous, methanol and acetone extracts at 12.5 μg/ml, 25 μg/ml and 50 μg/ml, were screened for their in vitro antioxidant activity using FRAP assay with reference to ascorbic acid. Phytoconstituent screening test was conducted using the standard reagents. All the leaf extracts from Canarium odontophyllum were found to exhibit dose-dependent antioxidant potential but acetone extract displayed the highest antioxidant capacity of 89.49 3.64μM FeSO4.7H2O, 181.46 5.54 μM FeSO4.7H2O and 355.26 16.62 μM FeSO4.7H2O at 12.5 μg/ml, 25 μg/ml and 50 μg/ml, respectively whereas aqueous extract has the lowest antioxidant power of 33.87 0.97 μM FeSO4.7H2O (12.5 μg/ml), 73.60 2.78 μM FeSO4.7H2O (25 μg/ml) and 140.29 0.28 μM FeSO4.7H2O (50 μg/ml). Methanol extract, on the other hand, exhibited moderate antioxidant activity which was significantly higher (p< 0.05) compared to aqueous extract but no significant difference to that of acetone extract.

This once vast island of tropical rainforest, in the space of only 50 years, has been reduced to isolated remnants including those centred on the three nominated sites. The Leuser Ecosystem, including the Gunung Leuser National Park, is by far the largest and most significant forest remnant remaining in Sumatra. All three parks would undoubtedly have been important climatic refugia for species over evolutionary time and have now become critically important refugia for future evolutionary processes. All stems with a diameter at breast height (dbh) ≥ 5cm enumerated, identified and their height weremeasured. The mean stem density was 659 (stems ha-1), and a total of 45 families, 102 genera, 181 species, 3319 individuals were presented in the five 1-ha plot; this comprises 6.3% species, 19.2% genera and 42% families of the total tree taxa found in Peninsular Malaysia. Based on IVI, Vatica maingayi,Xanthophyllum affine,Vatica pauciflorawere the most dominant tree species. The families of Dipterocarpaceae, Polygalaceae,Guttiferae and Myrtaceae were among the most important families with high FIV. Based on dbh class, nearly 50% of the trees were distributed in the lower diameter class(5-15cm). According to heightlife-form categories, 53% of stems were belonged to small trees (7-15m). Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode difusi agar menggunakan media Muller Hilton Agar. Klindamisin sebagai kontrol positif dan Na.CMC 1% sebagai kontrol negatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ekstrak daun Kenari (Canarium indicum L.) memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis dan Propionibacterium acnes. Aktivitas antibakteri daun Kenari (Canarium indicum L.) dengan konsentrasi 2%, 4% dan 6% memberikan zona hambat masing-masing sebesar 19 mm, 19,64 mm, dan 23,44 mm terhadap Staphylococcus epidermidis. Aktivitas antibakteri daun Kenari (Canarium indicum L.) dengan konsentrasi 2%, 4% dan 6% memberikan zona hambat masing-masing sebesar 17,36 mm, 20,41 mm, dan 23,30 mm terhadap Propionibacterium acnes. Mogana1* , A. Adhikari2, M. N. Tzar3, R. Ramliza3 and C. Wiart4 Abstract Background: Canarium patentinervium leaves are used by the local indigenous people of Malaysia for wound healing. The current study is undertaken to screen the comprehensive antibacterial activity of the leaves and barks extracts, fractions and isolated compounds from this plant. Bioassay guided fractionation was also undertaken to deeply evaluate the antibacterial activity of the water fraction of the leaves extract. This is to provide preliminary scientific evidence to the ethnopharmacology usage of this plant by investigating antibacterial properties of the plant and its isolated constituents. Methods: Bio-assay guided fractionation and subsequent isolation of compounds using open column chromatography. The antibacterial activity against gram positive and gram negative ATCC strain and resistant clinical strains were evaluated using microtiter broth dilution method to determine minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) and time-kill assay. The chemical structure of the isolated compounds from the water fraction of the ethanol extract of leaves was elucidated using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). Results: The ethanol extract of the leaves and barks showed antimicrobial activity against all four ATCC and eight clinical isolates. The ethanol extract of the leaves and the corresponding water fraction had good activity against MRSA S. aureus. (MIC: 250 μg/ml) and had bactericidal effect on eight of the clinical strains (MSSA,MRSA, oxacillin-resistant CONS, oxacillin- sensitive CONS, Enterococcus faecalis, Klebsiela species, Kleb pneumoniae ESBL and Candida parapsilosis).

CHEW, SAIFUDDIN SURAN AND ALI IBRAHIM Singapore Botanic Gardens, 1 Ouny Road, Singapore 259569 Abstract This vascular plant checklist of the Nature Reserves of Singapore is a compilation of historical records (herbarium specimens, published and unpublished checklists) as well as recent field observations and studies. A total of 1634 species of vascular plants have been recorded in the Nature Reserves since the last century, of which 443 (or 29% of the indigenous species) have not been seen during the last 10 years. Introduction The current Nature Reserves of Singapore consist of the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve (BTNR) and the Central Catchment Nature Reserve (CCNR). Floristic inventory and research in the past were mostly concentrated at BTNR, the Bukit Timah Reserve as it was formerly known. It was one of the first Forest Reserves to be established in Singapore in 1883. In 1951, the Nature Reserves Ordinance was enacted and the Central Catchment Area, now known as the Central Catchment Nature Reserve, was included as one of the five Forest Reserves.
