TOUR DE YORKSHIRE 2018 Virtual Race Pack for Schools KS1, KS2 & KS3/4 PRODUCED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH 2018 FOREWORD Hello and thank you for downloading this Tour de Yorkshire Education pack! We hope it will provide you with a wealth of information about the race and give you a whole host of fun and exciting ways to get involved. The pack is designed for teachers, community groups and parents of children aged between 5-16, and I’d like to thank Nathan Atkinson, for his hard work in developing it. I’d also like to thank Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries for partnering with us on it. In case you don’t know, Yorkshire Bank Bike Libraries allow children right across our county to borrow bikes, free of charge, just like they would a library book. We launched the initiative as a legacy of the 2014 Tour de France and asked people to donate their old or unwanted bikes which we could then refurbish and bring back to life. So far, over 5,500 bikes have been donated and 50 libraries have opened across the county, providing over 50,000 opportunities to ride! I am immensely proud of this success and our goal is to give every child in Yorkshire access to a bike for free. If you’d like to find out more, you can find more information at the back of this pack. We hope you find this pack useful and can’t wait to see everyone cheering from the roadside on the four days of action! Für mich war aber zuletzt beeindruckend, wie der Este auf der schweren Tour de Suisse- Etappe auf den Tiefenbachferner die Konkurrenz zertrümmert und so den Gesamtsieg für seinen Teamkollegen Simon Spilak geebnet hat. Und auf dem Gletscher wurde er auch noch Tagessiebenter! Das war eine unglaubliche Leistung. ***** Sterne: Ilnur Zakarin, Katusha Alpecin Der Fünfte des heurigen Giro d’Italia hatte nach der dreiwöchigen Italienrundfahrt eine Pause. Er soll sich für die Vuelta vorbereiten und ist für mich die große Unbekannte. Laut Papierform ist er der absolute Top-Star und hat auch bei Grand Tours das Zeug für ein Po - dium. Ich glaube, Ilnur wird sich während der Österreich Rundfahrt entscheiden, ob er Vollgas gibt. ***** Sterne: Miguel Ángel López, Astana Pro Team Er ist eines der größten Talente im Radsport. Im Vorjahr hat er mit 22 Jahren die Tour de Suisse gewonnen. Leider ist er bei der dies - jährigen Schweiz-Rundfahrt schwer gestürzt und hat sich einen Finger gebrochen. -

Thursday, January 19, 2012 Longsjo Classic bike race to roll in Worcester By Mark Conti TELEGRAM & GAZETTE STAFF [email protected] WORCESTER — The bright colors of the peloton will roll through downtown Worcester this summer as the prestigious Longsjo Classic expands in Central Massachusetts. The road race stage of the revitalized 2012 Longsjo Classic will start in Worcester and head to Princeton June 30 on the third stage of the four-day event. “We think we have a pretty good plan that will be very exciting,” said Ed Collier, executive director of the race. The junior and pro men and women categories will start at the Major Taylor statue at the public library at Salem Square. In a rolling parade, or controlled neutral field, the racers will proceed to Front Street and around the Common, then right on Main Street, through the tunnel and out to Salisbury Street, and then begin racing full tilt at the Park Avenue intersection in Worcester before the course winds through Holden into Princeton and Westminster. “It's going to be such a gorgeous sight,” Collier said. “There's nothing better than a parade of 150 cyclists. It's an incredible sight to see. It's going to look like the Tour de France on Main Street.” The Longsjo Classic is reenergized this year with a return to four stages. Financial difficulties forced the Longsjo to cut back to a one-day bicycle race last year, then a downtown Fitchburg fire canceled the event. The 52nd Longsjo race this year will kick off with a new twilight criterium in downtown Leominster June 28.
