Lt. Gov. Robert H. Finch has been designated as Chairman of the California delegation to the commission. Established in 1964, the Commission of the Californias works for the mutual benefit of Ca.lifer- nia and Baja California in the areas of economics, education, tourism and agriculture. "California and our neighboring state of Baja California share a common coastline, a coromon cultural heritage and mutual problems and challenges," Gov. Reagan said. "The people who have consented to serve on this important Commission will make significant contributions to the future of our two great states." Ignacio Garcia Batista, Mexicali, who is general chairman of the Commission of the Californias, announced a meeting on Friday, May 26 and Sah:.:rday, May 27, in Meid::::ali. COHEN July 14 & 21, 1993 and February 4, 1994 ARCHIVES CALIFORNIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY Pasadena, California Subject area Industrial relations; engineering; World War II Abstract Interview in three sessions in 1993 and 1994 with Victor V. Veysey, director of Caltech’s Industrial Relations Center and lecturer in business economics, 1977- 1983, and Caltech alumnus (BS, 1936). He discusses his growing up in Los Angeles and Brawley (Imperial Valley), California; education at Caltech in civil engineering, then MBA at Harvard. Joins staff of Caltech’s newly established Industrial Relations Center (IRC) in 1939. After outbreak of World War II he is assigned to management duties within Caltech’s rocket project under leadership of Earnest Watson; involved in retrorocket, High Velocity Aircraft Rocket (HVAR), and barrage rocket programs for the navy. Concerned in later stages of the war with transfer of Caltech wartime personnel to Aerojet Corporation, the navy, and Jet Propulsion Laboratory. Involvement with Project Camel (atomic bomb housing) as assistant to Trevor Gardner. In postwar period Veysey returns to ranching in Brawley and enters local and state politics; eventually elected to California legislature (1962) and the US Congress (1970). Appointed assistant secretary of the army for civil works by President Ford in 1974. Returns to Caltech as director of the IRC, 1977; recalls IRC colleagues Robert Gray and Arthur Young, their innovative projects. Balancing the Books: Jones’ $810M Charge Could Signal a Trend By Evan Clark If Jones Apparel Group’s $810 million noncash writedown for goodwill and trademarks is any guide, accountants might exact an even bigger toll on fourth-quarter profits than stingy consumers. Jones said Thursday that the aftertax charge, related mostly to its acquisitions of Nine West and Maxwell Shoe Co., and retail weakness would result in losses of $10.07 to $10.11 a share for the quarter, down from losses of $1.01 a year ago. And Jones isn’t alone. Fashion companies of all stripes could post far steeper losses than weak sales would dictate as they write down goodwill.

May 1968 has generated an enormous amount of literature and analyses of its events, yet there has been little previous work on popular music prior to May 1968 and the events of these protests and strikes that involved up to seven million people at its height.
