October 2019 the PENINSULA TOKYO REVEALS CALENDAR OF October 2019 THE PENINSULA TOKYO REVEALS CALENDAR OF FESTIVE ACTIVITIES TO CELEBRATE THE JOY OF GIVING AND RECONNECT WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY “Stories from the Tree”-themed events include gingerbread house decorating class, Acts of Kindness, and holiday-themed fare to bring loved ones together and raise funds for children’s charities The Peninsula Hotels has created a digital children’s storybook, available for complimentary download from its festive webpage on peninsula.com. Gingerbread House Decorating Class is also offered. Savoring Precious Time Modern life can often feel busy, with time seemingly passing at an ever-faster rate. With the approach of the festive season, The Peninsula Hotels – the home of the holidays – is encouraging guests and visitors alike to reflect and enjoy the present moment while surrounded by those they love. The luxury hotel brand today announced a calendar of fun activities and experiences for all to enjoy – including bountiful, festive-themed dining options; indulgent holiday cakes and gift hampers to present to loved ones; gingerbread house decorating class led by the hotels’ professional pastry chefs; and live story book reading session of The Peninsulas Hotels’ digital storybook for children, “The Gingerbread Man’s Tale,” available for complimentary download via peninsula.com’s festive webpage. -more- THE PENINSULA TOKYO REVEALS CALENDAR OF FESTIVE ACTIVITIES TO CELEBRATE THE JOY OF GIVING AND TO RECONNECT WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY - 2 Sharing Holiday Cheer The protagonist of this year’s story – which has been specially written for The Peninsula Hotels – is the Gingerbread Man. A familiar sight adorning decorated trees, the Gingerbread Man represents the “Stories from within the tree” chapter of The Peninsula Hotels’ three-year festive campaign titled “Stories from the tree.” In keeping with last year’s “Stories from under the tree” and next year’s “Stories from the tree top,” this year’s theme is about sharing the joy and fun of the season. Accordingly, the magic of the festive season will be celebrated at each of the ten Peninsula hotels around the globe with Christmas trees erected in the grand lobbies, and resplendent decorations on view for all to enjoy. Embracing Acts of Kindness Often, the joy and fun of the season is felt most strongly by the children in our lives. In support of those less fortunate, the six “Stories from the tree” characters will be available for purchase at each hotel in the form of tree ornaments, with JPY 500 from each purchase being donated to local youth-empowerment charities. This year, The Peninsula Tokyo has chosen the Japan School Library Association, which supports literacy efforts in the local community. Six festive ornaments are available for purchase at The Peninsula Tokyo (JPY 2,800 each), with JPY 500 from each purchase donated to the Japan School Library Association. -more- THE PENINSULA TOKYO REVEALS CALENDAR OF FESTIVE ACTIVITIES TO CELEBRATE THE JOY OF GIVING AND RECONNECT WITH FRIENDS AND FAMILY- 3 Celebrating Magical Moments To kick off the festive season and get the holiday spirit underway, Executive Pastry Chef Pascal Cialdella and his skilled team of pastry experts will hold a Gingerbread House Decorating Class on December 7. In this favorite program of the holiday season, children will be guided in a fun, hands-on workshop that allows them to decorate their very own gingerbread house using colorful candies, icing, chocolates, and baked goods. Participating children will also enjoy a sumptuous afternoon tea buffet featuring an indulgent spread of both savory and sweet delights. Afterwards, participants can take their unique creations home to display and enjoy with family and friends. A donation of JPY 5,000 from the total participants’ fee will benefit the Japan School Library Association. A favorite program of the holiday season is the Gingerbread House Decorating Class. All business and news editors Peak Tram receives Executive Council approval for operating right and upgrade project [Hong Kong, 11 October 2018] The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited (HSH), owner and operator of Peak Tramways Company Limited, is delighted to announce that the Chief Executive in Council has approved an additional ten-year operating right from 2026 to 2035 and the upgrade project of the Peak Tram, under the Peak Tramway Ordinance. “The Peak Tram has proudly served Hong Kong for 130 years and has become one of Hong Kong’s most popular tourist attractions. We are delighted to have received this approval from the Chief Executive in Council which allows us to progress with the upgrade project for the Peak Tram system and facilities. Creating a more exciting and comfortable experience for Peak Tram visitors will ensure this iconic recreational experience continues to grow hand-in-hand with Hong Kong for future generations. We are most grateful for the support and guidance of the Hong Kong Tourism Commission in helping us to make this project a success,” said Martyn Sawyer, HSH Group Director Properties. “We have carefully designed an enhanced customer experience and have considered all aspects to minimise service disruption, whilst keeping sustainability factors a priority,” said May Tsang, General Manager, The Peak Complex. “The upgrade project will result in covered, temperature-controlled queueing and waiting areas with entertainment features for up to 1,300 passengers. The new tramcars will be able to carry 210 passengers instead of 120 at present and visitors’ waiting time will be significantly reduced.” Ms Tsang explained that the larger capacity meant new longer tramcars, hence the need to completely replace all the haulage and control systems, lay new track rails and strengthen the track foundations and bridges, as well as extend the Lower Terminus.
