INT. U.S. PENITENTIARY, EXECUTION GALLERY, 2011 - NIGHT Witnesses view the “Death Bed” through the window. Preparations for the execution of a pale, beautiful, Anglo woman, CATE TRAINER,(40). Restrained by shackles Cate looks gruffly through the crowd, her dragon green eyes lock onto a stern, conservative, business man, ED TRAINER (65). Trying to hide his fear Ed Trainer grips the hand of his distraught wife, DORA (63), who holds back brimming tears from her elegant eyes, she gasps-- DORA Our baby girl. It’s all your fault.

INT. EXECUTION ROOM - CONTINUOUS The TEAM tightens her ankles and wrist straps. Cate looks at her mother. TRAINER Forgive me dear God, please forgive me. TITLE OVER: 2 Years Earlier

EXT. AL-QUEDA SAFE HOUSE, WOODS - NIGHT METTA AL-HANJIA (40) a beautifully stoic, green-eyed Muslim woman grabs the hand of her sweet faced son Ameen (7) and drags him through the woods, not noticing that he is wearing his suicide bomber vest. FBI SWAT TEAMS have moved into place. She’s surrounded by the SWAT and throws her hands in the air. Ameen copies her. SWAT Down on the ground! They lie down. SWAT team moves in. She looks at Ameen and sees his vest. Bomb agents move in to disarm Ameen. Surrounded by Operatives with machine guns, she is captured and put under a black hood. SHADOW OF THE SWORD 2.

EXT. SEMI TRUCK - VIRGINIA - NIGHT The bearded face of an alluring jihad warrior OAMR AL- HANJIA (42) drives a Semi Truck along the Wahhabi corridor. He is transporting a bomb.

EXT. CIA HEADQUARTERS, LANGLEY, VA. - EVENING Exterior CIA building.

INT. CIA HEADQUARTERS OBSERVATION ROOM - DAWN Metta sits alone. A mysterious voice, JOHN BROWN (40), an Emotional Intelligence Officer, comes out of the darkness. JOHN Who are you? EXT. INTERSTATE, DC - NIGHT Omar drives the Truck along the highway into Washington DC. The Capitol building radiates in the background.

INT. INTERROGATION ROOM - LATER Hours later, deep into the night METTA/CATE is sleep deprived and weak from the lack of food and water. CATE I’m telling you the truth. I’ve been under cover, part of a terrorist network, a sleeper cell. Omar is the God damn cell * leader. JOHN Why should I believe you? CATE Look the whole time, Omar thought he was using me, but I was using him. JOHN For seven years? CATE Omar never succeeded, I did. I was never * brain washed. In the background of the warehouse, Omar sees an old Muslim butcher, flicking his sharpened knife, slicing the necks of goats. He cries out in the name of Allah, as the animals are killed. INT. OBSERVATION ROOM - CONTINUOUS He looks through the Plexiglas. TRAINER She is right in front of me, I am looking at her right now.

INT. TRAINER’S KITCHEN - CONTINUOUS The moment it hits her, she drops her glass.

INT. CIA HQ, WASHINGTON, D.C. - DAY Goodman and Trainer observe the Memorial Wall of Stars. Trainer FLASHES BACK. TITLE OVER: TWO YEARS EARLIER 2009, a group of CIA officials, are seated in the lobby. Dora Trainer wearing her best “Jackie O” dress and hat. GOODMAN (V.O.) If you believed she was alive all this time Sir, why have that memorial star carved up there in her honor? Trainer hands the gold star to the service worker who climbs up the ladder and places it in the Anonymous Wall of Fallen Warriors. TRAINER (V.O.) INT. CIA HQ, WASHINGTON, D.C. - CONTINUOUS GOODMAN Thank God she came back. My mother passed while I was over there. TRAINER Where did you serve? GOODMAN Near the Iraq-Kuwait border. TRAINER Well soldier, we’re lucky to have you back and at our Office of General Counsel. GOODMAN O.G.C., is the best career move I’ve ever made sir. INT. BRENDA’S OFFICE, CIA - DAY Goodman, an attractive CIA AGENT, DEBRA MOYER (35), CEDRIC, an upbeat African American Agent, (27), and * Trainer meet with Trainer secretly loves when Moyer’s around. MOYER She’s got information to the Nth degree on al-Qeada, more than our whole unit combined. Cedric sets up surveillance equipment. TRAINER * We owe her our best. So you’re sure you’re up for this? INT. MOYER’S OFFICE - NIGHT * Moyer sits with Raja and Goodman. Cedric wires up Cate who remains dressed n her Muslim jibab. Trainer stands watching at the doorway. RAJA OK you’re on. No falling apart until you’re back with us. SHADOW OF THE SWORD 16.

CATE Don’t worry, if I’m going to fall apart it will be for my country not his. Moyer places the Surveillance Wire inside Cate’s jibab- headdress. Cedric tests the equipment. Trainer gives her back her CIA identification card in a new wallet. They take a moment looking at her photo. TRAINER Time to update that photo. He smiles. CATE I need a favor, get me the magazine cover to ‘The Wahhabi Lobby’. I think it was their first issue. It has a sketch of a Mosque on the front. TRAINER You got it. CEDRIC Test it. CATE (into her headset) Now hear this, I am bringing this psycho- towel-head in once and for all.

INT. DAR AL MOSQUE - AFTERNOON Inside the Dar-Al Mosque behind glass, CATE/METTA is in the prayer room with the traditional Muslim women, overlooking the men in prayer below. Shoulder to shoulder with the others she scans the crowd looking for Omar. Cate moves through the prayer postures. The Imam directs his speech to Omar, counter to his beckoning nerves and heart palpitations. When the prayer is complete, Cate spots a man in the third row. Her heart pumps faster, sweat pours from under her Hijab. She knows it is him, even though his head is covered in a white cap, she knows.

EXT. DAR AL MOSQUE - LATER Outside the Mosque, the women exit by the far door. The STING Agents hide by the cars across the street. SHADOW OF THE SWORD 17.

Cate rushes through the crowd of Muslim women to get to Omar. Cate hears Moyer in her head set. MOYER We see you Cate. CATE He’s the one in the white shirt. White cap. MOYER Great Cate, there’s like fifty with white caps out here. Omar hustles outside of the Mosque. Jamal watches him leave. EXT. STREET - CONTINUOUS Omar jogs down the city street. Cate hikes up her long dress and runs after him. Omar dodges people, knocking over an old lady. The old lady rants and raves at him. A local patrol car pulls over profiling Omar. COP You knocked into that old lady. OMAR Is that a crime? COP Where are you off to so fast? OMAR I’m just jogging sir. Catching his breath. The cop looks at Omar’s dress shoes. COP Jogging? I need to see some I.D. Omar looks him right in the eye. OMAR I forgot it, when I left my house. COP Where do you live? Cate/Metta arrives, grabbing Omar by the arm. SHADOW OF THE SWORD 18.

CATE/METTA Here you are, I’ve been looking for you, the baby is sick you have to come home now. COP Before I can let you go, I will need to see your ID. Omar beams hate into her. OMAR I told you I don’t have it. CATE/METTA What do you mean you don’t have it, you had your drivers licence this morning. OMAR But I came out for a jog. CATE/METTA Officer here’s mine. He’s my husband. She pulls it from her purse, handing it to him on the sly. The cop sees she is CIA. COP OK. You can go. CATE/METTA Come on Omar we have to go now. INT. SURVALENCE VAN - CONTINUOUS Trainer and the SWAT team hear his escape. TRAINER We needed that. Stick with him Cate.

EXT. STREET, CHURCH FALLS - CONTINUOUS Omar walks swiftly, recalculating. Cate/Metta trails behind him. He sees her and hails a cab. OMAR Zabiha on Clark Street. He jumps in.

INT. TAXI - CONTINUOUS The cab stops for traffic, she jumps in. OMAR Get out! Cate jams herself into the backseat. She pulls out a tattered magazine cover. METTA (Arabic) Remember how you taught me that the logo for Al-Aqsa Mosque was really a map from the Jordan River to the Mediterranean Sea? She points this out on the cover. EXT. UNDERCOVER VAN - CONTINUOUS STING OPERATION follows Cate and Omar in unmarked vans. Listening on headset are Trainer, Cedric and the Arabic Translator. TRANSLATOR That’s it, bomb ETA 01100. TRAINER Notify the Secret Service. TRANSLATOR Today’s 11/11/11 at 11:00 A.M. Damn those calculating jihad jerks.

INT. TAXI - CONTINUOUS Omar bangs on taxi’s glass divider. OMAR Faster! Driver speeds up, dodging traffic honking his horn. In the rearview mirror, Omar’s nephew, JAMAL(17) runs after them but can’t keep up.

EXT. WHITE HOUSE GATE - CONTINUOUS ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER arrives at the White House Gate. Reporters cover the event. REPORTER The President is meeting with Prime Minister Netanyahu today to continue Peace talks for the region. SHADOW OF THE SWORD 21.

TAXI - CONTINUOUS Omar’s Taxi is stuck in wall to wall traffic.

INT. WHITE HOUSE - LATER An entourage of Secret Service Vehicles transport the PRESIDENT and the ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER to an underground location.

INT. SEMI-TRUCK, WAREHOUSE - CONTINUOUS Akmad can’t stop his shaking as he connects the wires activating the bomb. Timer shows 120 seconds.

INT. TAXI - LATER Omar enraged, gets out and runs to his destination five blocks away. Cate races to keep up.

INT. FBI VAN - CONTINUOUS FBI follows the taxi with the Nuclear Bomb Squad. FBI We don’t know how much time is left, so don’t wait for me, unarm that bomb.

INT. SLAUGHTER HOUSE, DOWNTOWN, DC - CONTINUOUS Among the slaughtered goats, lambs and manufacturing equipment, Akmad and his recruits have stacked the contents of the truck -- Slot Machines. The Bomb remains ticking in the back of the truck. Akmad spastically tries to unarm the suitcase bomb, but can’t find the key. Jamal runs in, out of breath. AKMAD What’s happened? JAMAL He ran into his wife at the Mosque. I ran after them but lost him. Omar followed Cate/Metta rush into the warehouse. Crashing through, the FBI’S STING OPERATION invades the Slaughter House. SHADOW OF THE SWORD 22.

Omar looks to Cate. OMAR You betray me! He tries to grab her, but is stopped by a gunman. Gunman throws Omar at her feet. GUNMAN Is this him? Cate! Omar gives her a look to kill. OMAR Metta, how could you? She nods, tears off her jibab and smiles. CATE Because I am Agent Cate Fucking Trainer, you disgusting pig. FBI Take him. The agents throw Omar to the ground and handcuffs Akmad and Jamal on their knees. AGENT No more humping camels for you goat-boy. AKMAD I hooked it up! It’s gonna blow! OMAR Why did you do that Akmad?! AKMAD You weren’t here I got worried! The Agent kicks Akmad in the gut, he falls. A key falls out of his pocket. The BOMB DISPOSAL UNIT grabs the key, opens the suitcase. The bomb is set to go off in 1 minute. Cautiously, the Officer moves in and clips primer, reactor and diffuser wires. UNIT OFFICER Bomb is neutral. Everyone can breathe. SHADOW OF THE SWORD 23.

EXT. WAREHOUSE - CONTINUOUS Cate slumps against the wall in relief. Her ordeal is over. Teams of POLICE and FBI swarm the warehouse.

EXT. CIA HEADQUARTERS - NIGHT The city has been shut down. Goodman arrives on his bike at the executive office building.

INT. CIA HQ - NIGHT Goodman meets with Raja in her office. GOODMAN They got the bomb! RAJA We heard. Is the city still shut down? GOODMAN Totally. RAJA Can you get her off this highly inappropriate charge? They are interrupted by Cate’s knock at the door. She is out of her Muslim clothes and dressed in American clothes. CATE I was told you needed me. GOODMAN Truly amazing work at the warehouse Agent Trainer. The country is lucky to have you home again. Cate sits. GOODMAN The Prosecution is going to say that under Stockholm Syndrome, you fell in love with your captor and committed treason against the United States. He looks stumped. INT. GOODMAN'S APARTMENT - NIGHT Goodman and SAL ROMERO, (28) review testimony. Sal sits in a mock witness chair playing the role of expert witness. GOODMAN As Head of Psychiatry at Bethesda Airforce Base, I have treated a multitude of POWs with Stockholm Syndrome. SAL Doctor, would you say that all patients surviving the 4 conditions of Stockholm Syndrome exhibited the Syndrome? GOODMAN No, not necessarily. It stems from a defense mechanism for identification. If one were to maintain their identification then one could avoid emotional attachment. SAL Even through something as drastic as female circumcision? GOODMAN If they are well trained it’s possible.
