2008 Deux Chevaux Vineyard Rabicano 2016 Chardonnay - Dijon Deux Chevaux Vineyard, Yountville AVA Tamber Bey's estate-grown Dijon Clone Chardonnay is a unique wine for Napa. This Chardonnay has a ‘Burgundian’ feel as the French Dijon clone brings a wonderful mid-pallet sense of fruit, but leaves out the oak and butter (characteristic of traditional Napa Chardonnays). This old block of Chardonnay just keeps giving us the amazing fruit. Winemaker Notes Aromatically expressive with notes of lemon, yellow apple, lychee, mandarin orange and toasted coconut. The medium palate weight carries the pleasant acidity, which provides great structure and mouthfeel for this wine. Flavors of honeycomb, oats and vanilla bean evolve with time and transition into subtle notes of hazelnut and buttered caramel. Deux Chevaux Vineyard The Deux Chevaux Vineyard is a 60-acre vineyard situated in the Yountville Appellation, north-east of the town of Yountville. The SRP: $60 – 750ml vineyard is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Chardonnay. Clos Du Val’s Estate Vineyards: Stags Leap, Carneros and Yountville For more than 40 years, Clos Du Val’s estate vineyards in Stags Leap District, Carneros and Yountville have been at the heart of the winery’s winemaking program. Located on some of the finest winegrowing land in Napa Valley, and farmed by Clos Du Val for decades, these three distinctive vineyards reflect the valley’s diversity, and provide a world-class palette of estate fruit for Winemaker Ted Henry. Beginning in 2014, Clos Du Val President Steve Tamburelli affirmed the winery’s commitment to the importance of this estate fruit when he transitioned Clos Du Val’s wines into being almost entirely estate-grown. Hirondelle Estate Vineyard, Stags Leap District, Napa Valley The crown jewel of Clos Du Val’s estate program is the 150-acre Hirondelle Estate Vineyard in the heart of Stags Leap District, in the eastern portion of Napa Valley. Originally acquired in 1972, this coveted land is also home to the Clos Du Val Winery. Often referred to as a “valley within a valley,” Stags Leap District was the first American Viticultural Area (AVA) in the United States to be approved based on the distinctiveness of its gravel and loam soils. The AVA, which is just three miles long, and one mile wide, is also celebrated for its ideal climate, which funnels cool breezes from San Pablo Bay through the Stags Leap District corridor. This lowers evening temperatures and allows the grapes to ripen slowly, producing velvety tannins and pure varietal flavors, while retaining ideal natural acidity—qualities that have proven perfect for making exceptional, age-worthy Cabernet Sauvignons.

  • Wine Country Travel Advice for Yountville and Stags Leap District
Two Guys From Napa Yountville and Stags Leap District Essentially parallel to each other, the Yountville and Stags Leap District appellations in Napa Valley are both moderate regions cooled down by afternoon marine winds. However, Yountville is influenced more by morning fog, and the bare rocks of Stags Leap reflect heat and sunshine, so the Stags Leap AVA can be up to 10 degrees warmer than the Yountville AVA. Both areas are primarily known for their Merlots and Cabernet Sauvignons. Stags Leap District Favorite Tasting Rooms in Yountville and Stags Leap District Baldacci Family Vineyards – With only 17 acres on their Stags Leap Disrict property, the Baldaccis craft premium wines with minimal handling of the grapes. Their reputation is largely based on their limited production Cabernet Sauvignons. Owners Thomas and Brenda Baldacci head the family and Michael (one of their four sons) is the Director of Operations at the winery. Our favorite wines include the Brenda’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, and the Black Label (SLD) Cabernet Sauvignon. The winery is currently in the middle of a major property upgrade, and wine tastings will commence again in June 2017 by appointment only. 6236 Silverado Trail, Napa (707) 944-9261 [reservation required] Beau Vigne – Intense, balanced and rich Cabernet Sauvignons are served at this tasting room in Yountville. The wines are served in Riedel’s XL (think really big) wine glasses which make the tasting experience a very elegant one. Beau Vigne is owned by Ed and Trish Snider, a former head football coach from St. Helena High School and his wife, and some of his former students are now manning the tasting room.
