E-mail: [email protected] A small, reddish black to black longicorn beetle, with a paern of chalk-white spots on prothorax, elytra and underside was collected at two places in Maharashtra State, namely Satara and Pune (Talegaon). The Satara specimen was a female (coll: S. Gaikwad, vii.2014) and Pune specimen was a male (coll: S. Paripatyadar, 6.vii. 2014). The keys provided in Gahan (1906) showed this cerambycid beetle to be Ceresium leucosccum White. The beetle was originally described and illustrated by White (1855) [from E. Fig 1. Photo Shruti India]; Gahan (1906) again gave descripon, along with a drawing, and added addional localies, within the then Brish India, such as ‘Assam, Burma, Siam and Sumatra’, of which only Assam is in Indian Territory now. Duffy (1968), who studied immature stages of the Oriental Cerambycidae, stated this species to be distributed in ‘Assam, Bihar, Madras, Maharashtra and Uar Pradesh’. Gressi, Rondon and Breuning (1970) reported this species from Laos (as well as Burma, Hainan, Thailand, Sumatra, and in Laos: Throughout Mekong Valley and adjacent plateau) and stated that the paern of white spots was variable, and somemes the elytral spots may be absent or indisnct. While studying taxa of butterflies in Jammu and Rajouri districts located in Western Himalaya, fourteen species (Abisara bifasciata Moore, Pareronia hippia Fabricius, Elymnias hypermnestra Linnaeus, Acraea terpsicore Linnaeus, Charaxes solon Fabricius, Symphaedra nais Forster, Neptis jumbah Moore, Moduza procris Cramer, Athyma cama Moore, Tajuria jehana Moore, Arhopala amantes Hewitson, Jamides celeno Cramer, Everes lacturnus Godart and Udaspes folus Cramer) are recorded for the first time from the Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. Investigations for butterflies were carried by following visual encounter method between 2014 and 2019 in morning hours from 7 am to 11 am throughout breeding seasons in Jammu and Rajouri districts. Systematics of the Oriental and partly Palaearctic members of the generic complex was reviewed by Holloway (2001), and those of the Afrotropical members by Durante (2008; 2009; 2012). Th e genus Sesapa was erected by Walker (1854) for a single species Sesapa inscripta Walker, 1854. Hamp- son (1900) synonymized it with Miltochrista, and at present several other taxa originally described as Sesapa by diff erent authors (Butler, 1877; Moore, 1877) are placed to the genera Miltochrista and Barsine (Holloway, 2001; Kirti, Singh, 2015).

Many of these combinations are reported for the first time in Sri Lanka. The impact of introducing new plants on the dynamics of abundance and distribution of butterflies, the possibility of butterflies being pests on crops, and observations of LFPs of rare butterfly species, are discussed. Peck Department of Biology, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive, Ottawa, Ontario K1S 5B6, Canada stewart_peck@carleton. ca Abstract. The beetle fauna of the island of Dominica is summarized. It is presently known to contain 269 genera, and 361 species (in 42 families), of which 347 are named at a species level. Of these, 62 species are endemic to the island. The other naturally occurring species number 262, and another 23 species are of such wide distribution that they have probably been accidentally introduced and distributed, at least in part, by human activities. Undoubtedly, the actual numbers of species on Dominica are many times higher than now reported. This highlights the poor level of knowledge of the beetles of Dominica and the Lesser Antilles in general. Of the species known to occur elsewhere, the largest numbers are shared with neighboring Guadeloupe (201), and then with South America (126), Puerto Rico (113), Cuba (107), and Mexico-Central America (108). The Antillean island chain probably represents the main avenue of natural overwater dispersal via intermediate stepping-stone islands. The distributional patterns of the species shared with Dominica and elsewhere in the Caribbean suggest stages in a dynamic taxon cycle of species origin, range expansion, distribution contraction, and re-speciation. Email: [email protected] Introduction Three families in the superfamily Calopterygoidea occur in China, viz. the Calo- pterygidae, Chlorocyphidae and Euphaeidae. They include numerous species that are distributed widely across South China, mainly in streams and upland running waters at moderate altitudes. To date, our knowledge of Chinese spe- cies has remained inadequate: the taxonomy of some genera is unresolved and no attempt has been made to map the distribution of the various species and genera. This project is therefore aimed at providing taxonomic (including on larval morphology), biological, and distributional information on the super- family in South China. In 2009, two series of surveys were conducted to Southwest China-Guizhou and Yunnan Provinces. The two provinces are characterized by karst limestone arranged in steep hills and intermontane basins. The climate is warm and the weather is frequently cloudy and rainy all year. This area is usually regarded as one of biodiversity “hotspot” in China (Xu & Wilkes, 2004). Many interesting species are recorded, the checklist and photos of these sur- veys are reported here. And the progress of the research on the superfamily Calopterygoidea is appended. Methods Odonata were recorded by the specimens collected and identified from pho- tographs. Of the four current species, three are recognized as belonging to the genus and redescribed: L. angustus (Guignot, 1957), L. octoguttatus (Zimmermann, 1921) and L. uniformis (Zimmermann, 1921). The fourth species, L. buqueti (Laporte, 1835) is found to not be a member of Liocanthydrus, but of an undescribed genus. The noterid genus Siolius J. Balfour-Browne, 1969, is synonymized with Liocanthydrus (new synonymy) based on comparison of type specimens in both groups. Two of the three species described in Siolius, S. bicolor J. Balfour-Browne, 1969 and S. clayae J. Balfour-Browne, 1969, are recog- nized as valid, transferred to Liocanthydrus, and redescribed. The third, S. amazonicus J. Balfour- Browne, 1969, is syn- onymized with L.
