The rapid infrastructure development and urbanisation leads to the mismatch in the demand and supply. The scarcity of resources leads to the illegal activity and degradation of the environment. This paper addresses the issues relating to sand mining in the BharathapuzhaRiver in Kerala India, its economic analysis and its consequences. Finally attempts to bring the attention of the international community for sustainable growth. Index terms: Sand mining, economic analysis, sustainable growth Introduction The Bharathapuzhariver in the Indian state known to be the Nila of Kerala. The Bharathapuzha River covers 155 KM in Kerala. The details course of the river has been shown in the figure no. 1. During of its course it covers the areas like South Chittur, kannadi Bridge, kalpathiPuzha, Mankara, Cheerakuzhi, Pattambi, thrithala, ThuthaPuzha, Kuttipuram and Ponnani sea level etc. In its upper course River carries large size rocks at high velocity due to higher steep. However, this inclination decreases from Pattambi to Kuttipuram Region where sand is deposited by the river. Sand mining is primarily carried out in this region. The river has over dammed in its course, mainly its water used for the irrigation purpose. The rapid globalisation and development leads to the scarcity of the natural resources like sand. As sand are the primary integrands for the construction projects. -

Therefore, the current study was designed and carried out during the past decade. A list of LFPs for 207 butterfly species (Super family Papilionoidea) of Sri Lanka is presented based on local studies and includes 785 plant-butterfly combinations and 480 plant species. Many of these combinations are reported for the first time in Sri Lanka. The impact of introducing new plants on the dynamics of abundance and distribution of butterflies, the possibility of butterflies being pests on crops, and observations of LFPs of rare butterfly species, are discussed. This information is crucial for the conservation management of the butterfly fauna in Sri Lanka. Key words: conservation, crops, larval food plants (LFPs), pests, plant-butterfly combination. Pollen Diversity Studies in Some Taxa of Bicarpellatae from Nagpur Sapna V. Awachat Department of Botany, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University, Nagpur Abstract: Dicots are the diverse group of plants on the basis of morphology, anatomy, cytogenetics, embryology and pollen morphology. Pollen diversity is the study of the variations in the morphology of pollen grains. Pollen has also proved to be an excellent tool in taxonomic studies. The application of pollen characters in solving controversial taxonomical and phylogenetic problems has now been widely recognized all over the world (Mandal, 2010). In the present paper, pollen diversity of several taxa belonging to Bicarpellatae (Apocynaceae, Asclepiadaceae, Boraginaceae, Convolvulaceae, Solanaceae, Scrophulariaceae, Acanthaceae, Thunbergiaceae, Verbenaceae, Lamiaceae, etc.) from Nagpur is selected. The pollen grains show variations with respect to exine ornamentation, aperture type, shape, size and NPC (number, position, character) classification etc. The pollen slides were prepared by using acetolysis method (Erdtman 1952) and documentation was done by using light microscope and digital camera. The pollen grain studies show variation in exine ornamentation (psilate to verrucate), aperture (porate to spiraperturate), shape (oblate to prolate) and size (small to large). The pollens described on the basis of NPC classification are presented. Pollen calendar and distribution was also noted in all taxa. It is found that the pollen grains with relative variations in pollen morphology help us to differentiate families. Keywords : Bicarpellatae, Pollen grains, Acetolysis. Introduction: Palynology involves the study of pollen and encompasses the structural and functional aspect of pollen. Pollen grains come in an infinite variety of shapes with complex surface ornamentation and occur on almost every surface in nature. -

Abstract Traditional knowledge of medicines on family Zingiberaceae were collected from South Western Maharashtra regions like Kolhapur, Satara, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg Districts, during the year 2008 to 2010. The information related to plant species which are used to cure common ailments and disease by personal interviews with local people and herbalists. The 14 species of family Zingiberaceae are used for medicinal purpose. The Details of these species are described with their botanical name, family, local name, part used and ethno-medicinal uses. A standard questionnaire was used to gather the relevant information on plants and their usage of tribal people’s life. Interviews and detailed documentation were carried out during July 2011 to May 2013.The traditional beliefs and customs of tribal people passed on by word of mouth were recorded. Totally 108 medicinally used plant species of 90 genera belongs to 50 families were documented with the help of tribal practitioners. The study also recorded the mode of preparations, mode of administration of medicinal plants to their corresponding ailments. The study concluded that the native peoples of kalrayan hill have good medicinal knowledge and also maintained plant based medicinal system from their ancestors. This type of study may helpful to the Ayurvedic practitioners and also plant based medicinal system. Keywords: Folklore, Ethnomedicines, Kalrayan Hill, Eastern Ghats, Tamil Nadu. INTRODUCTION Traditional folk medical practices are empirical in nature; several million people in India with limited access to organized modern health care centers depend on traditional systems of medicine to cater their primary health care needs.
