This is a high desert region with an elevation of about 4,800 feet. Lake county is aptly named, as there are lakes, reservoirs and many streams and creeks in the area. Goose Lake Valley is surrounded by mountains for the most part. Lakeview is about 100 miles east of Klamath Falls, OR. PROPERTY: The lot for this home is on .38 acres. There is only farmground joining this property on the west and north sides. There is a house to the south. Across the highway to the east is also farmground. There are nice shade trees on the property and a nice landscaped yard. The driveway and parking area are gravel. IMPROVEMENTS: This is a beautiful, ranch style home in the community known as the ’Westside’. The original part of the home was built in 1984, and is basically the three bed- rooms. This part was remodeled when the rest of the house was built in 2000. The original part is 768 sq ft. The newer part is 1,666. The new part includes the master bathroom and the living room, dining area, kitchen, utility room, and bathroom. The living room/dining room is completely open with a vaulted ceiling. Large windows provide great views of the area, including Crane Mt. to the east. The kitchen is a cook’s delight. Included is a stainless steel commercial range with six propane burners and two ovens. Both ovens are electric/ convection. The refrigerator is also stainless steel with double side by side doors. The dishwasher is stainless steel, also. The cabinets are custom made of oak and the counter tops are tile. Added features includes a warming oven, one drawer for a flour bin and one drawer for s sugar bin. This house has lots of storage. There is a utility room to the west of the kitchen. This room is measures 8 by 19 1/2 and has a nice set of shelves on one side. The washer and dryer do not go with the sale. This utility room has a large sink in it, also. The utility room serves as a nice pantry. To the very back of the house, on the west side, there is an enclosed porch/mud room. The porch is about 7 1/2 by 26 feet. The two smaller bedrooms are each about 10 by 14 1/2. The master bedroom is 10 by 23 and the master bathroom is about 8 by 9 with a 3 by 4 1/2 walk in shower. The other bathroom has a tub with a shower. Both bathrooms have linen closets and vinyl floors. The kitchen has a tile floor and the rest of the house has carpet. All of these sheds have wood siding and metal roof. The well is about 60 feet deep with a static water level of about 12 feet. There is a new 3/4 HP jet pump installed. TAXES: 2018-2019- $2,451.91 REMARKS: This is country living at its finest. A quiet community only 12 miles from town, with gorgeous views of the mountains. Recreational opportunities include hunting for deer and elk, fishing in lakes and creeks, snow skiing less than 20 miles away, rock hunting, and riding ATVs in the desert. My name is Belinda Brown, and I am an enrolled member of the Kosealekte Band of the Ajumawi-Atsuge Nation, formally recognized by the federal government as the Pit River Tribe. Our ancestral land base encompasses a “hundred mile square” that spans from the four northeastern-most counties of California—Modoc, Lassen, Shasta and Siskiyou—across stateliness into the Goose Lake Valley of Lake County in Oregon. I am also descended from the Gidutikad Band of the Northern Paiute, whose ancestral land base stretches from Warner Valley in Oregon to Surprise Valley in California, reaching across what is now called the Modoc National Forest into the Fremont-Winema National Forest. I present this testimony as a traditional cultural practitioner who grew up practicing aboriginal fire use, and also in my current capacity as Tribal Partnerships Director for Lomakatsi Restoration Project, a non- profit organization based in Ashland, Oregon, and as Chairwoman for the Inter-Tribal Ecosystem Restoration Partnership. I have previously served as a tribal elected official, holding office on the Pit River Tribal Council and as a Cultural Representative. My homeland encompasses the vegetation gradients of juniper woodland sagebrush steppe habitat, to ponderosa pine bitterbrush, to mixed conifer systems.

    Enclosure—Discussion of Individual Species WHOOPING CRANE STATUS OF THE SPECIES Description The Whooping Crane is in the Family Gruidae, Order Gruiformes (Krajewski 1989, Meine and Archibald 1996). The common name "whooping crane" probably originated from the loud, single- note vocalization given repeatedly by the birds when they are alarmed. As the tallest North American bird, males approach 1.5 m (5 ft) when standing erect, and exceed the greater sandhill crane in height by 12 to 20 cm (5 to 8 in). Males are generally larger than females. Adult plumage is snowy white except for black primaries, black or grayish alulae, sparse black bristly feathers on the carmine crown and malar region, and a dark gray-black wedge-shaped patch on the nape. The juvenile plumage is a reddish cinnamon color. Juveniles achieve typically adult plumage late in their second summer. Distribution and Abundance Whooping cranes occur only in North America within Canada and the United States. Approximately 96% of the wild nesting sites occur in Canada and the balance in Florida. Fifty- eight percent of the December, 2003 wild population (185 of 317 individuals) had summered in Canada, with 87 in Florida and 36 in the Wisconsin – Florida population. Seventeen percent of the captive individuals (19) remain in Canada and the balance (95 cranes) is in the United States. The Aransas-Wood Buffalo National Park Population contained 194 individuals in December, 2003 and is the only self-sustaining wild population. This population nests in the Northwest Territories and adjacent areas of Alberta, Canada, primarily within the boundary of Wood Buffalo National Park (Johns 1998b).

Fremont National Forest is situated in south-centralOregon, with its westernedge in Klamath County and the rest in Lake County. Roughly, it lies south of Lapinc between the Dalles California and Fremont highways, with the California border forming its southern boundary. The forest is divided into four ranger districts. In the north there is the Silver Lake District, to the south of this the Paisley District, then to the southwestthe Bly District, and to the southeast the WarnerDistrict. The 'southernarea on the Bly Districtis th• most mountainous and receives the most moisture. The eastern area of the Silver Lake District is the most arid region, being level and frequently interspersedwith rock and sageflats.
