BACKGROUND Bodegas Portia of Spain's Ribera del Duero region is a modern, technical and sustainably savvy winery with a spectacular facility designed by internationally famed architect Norman Foster, head of the London-based design team, Foster + Partners. Portia is the outcome of a venture that began in the 1990s, when the Martinez family (owners of Bodegas Faustino, a leading producer of from the ), purchased nearly 400 acres in Ribera del Duero. The name Portia has dual meaning, referring to the seventh satellite of the planet Uranus (representing the pioneer, inventor, creator and artist according to astrology), and the Latin word for a token offering made in ancient times as a symbol of gratitude toward the elements in return for a healthy and abundant harvest.

WINEMAKING Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats at a controlled temperature of 79ºF.

AGING Malolactic fermentation is followed by maturation in new French and WINEMAKERS American oak barrels for a period of 12 months. Raul Quemada TASTING NOTES Medium garnet in color. Blackcurrant and blackberry aromas accented by notes of vanilla and toasted oak on the nose. On the palate, a TECHNICAL DATA structured, well-balanced with flavors of blackberry, toast, and dark fruit with a long finish of vanilla.
