CONTRIBUTION TO THE KNOWLEDGE OF THE LEPIDOPTERA FAUNA OF SLOVENIA II: SPECIES OF MICROLEPIDOPTERA NEW TO SLOVENIA – The fauna of Lepidoptera of Slovenia is still poorly known, especially the Microlepidoptera group. We present information on 95 Microlepidoptera species new to Slovenia. Records of further 44 species which have been known for Slovenia but without exact information on localities, are also given. Keywords: Microlepidoptera, new species, fauna, new records NATURA SLOVENIAE 11(2): 39-60 ZOTKS Gibanje znanost mladini, Ljubljana, 2009 40 Tone LESAR et al.: Prispevek k poznavanju metuljev (Lepidoptera) Slovenije II ... Vse uporabljene metode so naravovarstveno sprejemljive, saj so selektivne in brezstrupne. Avtorji vzorcev so navedeni v oglatih oklepajih. Območje raziskave je Slovenija. Imena najdišč so povzeta po Atlasu Slovenije 1996. Rezultati Sistematika metuljev in metuljčkov še ni dorečena, zato prihaja do nenehnih sprememb. Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity, Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523 Abstract A list of 1531 species ofLepidoptera is presented, collected over 15 years (1988 to 2002), in eleven southern West Virginia counties. A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. This imbalance of data between Kanawha County and other counties should even out with further sampling of the area. Key Words: Appalachian Mountains,

Abstract: Data on the geographical distribution of Evergestis alborivulalis (Eversmann, 1843) in Palaearctic are given, with maps. Biological data and habitats of the species are presented. Structure of genitalia and morphological characteristic of wings are illustrated in colour. With 13 figures. Keywords: Lepidoptera, Crambidae, Evergestis alborivulalis, bionomics, distribution, Palaearctic. Introduction The distribution patterns and life cycle of Evergestis alborivulalis have been of long- standing interest to researchers. The species was originally described from Russian material from the Ural region (EVERSMANN 1843). Systematically, E. alborivulalis belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Crambidae, subfamily Evergestinae. There is very little information about the geographical range and bionomics of this species. Nobody has ever correlated and mapped distributional information already published in different works. Here, a map of its distribution in Eurasia is shown. Even though it is inevitably sketchy, it demonstrates the highly localised occurrence of E. alborivulalis. Until now, there has been no information about the larva and food plant, and little was known about the habitat preferences. In the last few years, intensive and systematic surveys in Hungary have been made by the author. Our database can be found in text. Detailed information can now be given about the habitat in Hungary. Natura 2000 habi- tat types of priority interest for the conservation of this moth have been selected.

Gredleriana Vol. 7 / 2007 pp. 233 - 306 Biodiversität von Schmetterlingen (Lepidoptera) im Gebiet des Naturparks Schlern Peter Huemer Abstract Biodiversity of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera) of the Schlern nature park (South Tyrol, Italy) The species diversity of Lepidoptera within the Schlern nature park has been explored during the vegetation periods 2006 and 2007. Altogether 1030 species have been observed in 16 sites, covering about one third of the entire fauna from the province of South Tyrol. Fifteen additional species have been collected during the diversity day 2006 whereas further 113 species date back to historical explorations. The species inventory includes 20 new records for South Tyrol which are briefly reviewed. Among these speciesMicropterix osthelderi, Rhigognostis incarnatella and Cydia cognatana are the first proved records from Italy. Further two species from the surroundings of the Park include the first published records ofPhyllonorycter issikii and Gelechia sestertiella for Italy. Site specific characteristics of Lepidoptera coenosis are discussed in some detail. Historical aspects of lepidopterological exploration of the Schlern are briefly introduced. Keywords: Lepidoptera, faunistics, biodiversity, Schlern, South Tyrol, Italy 1.

The nomenclature of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) comb, rev., a species which has been described three times and of which the names have been placed in three different subfamilies of Crambidae, is investigated. The generic name Maelinoptera Staudinger, 1893 syn. n. is revised as a junior subjective synonym of Evergestis Hübner, 1825 and the type-species of this monotypic genus, Hercyna anartalis Staudinger, 1892, is transferred to Evergestis. Evergestis heliacalis Zerny, 1914 syn. n. and Noctuelia anartalis Hampson, 1918 syn. n., are considered as junior subjective synonyms of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) (Hercyna). Evergestis anartalis Hampson, 1918 (Noctuelia) therefore becomes a junior secondary homonym of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) (Hercyna). Lectotypes of Hercyna anartalis Staudinger, 1892 and Evergestis heliacalis Zerny, 1914 are designated. Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) is redescribed; adults, male and female genitalia are illustrated. According to the specimens investigated, it is assumed that Evergestis anartalis is endemic to sub-alpine and alpine altitudes in Central Asia. Key words. Evergestis anartalis, taxonomic revision. Central Asia, alpine altitudes, endemic species. Introduction After Staudinger (1892: pi. 3 fig. 17) already figured Hercyna anartalis, he provided the description of this species a year later and described the genus Maelinoptera to include Hercyna anartalis only (Staudinger 1893: 72-73).

BUNCUKÇU A b s t r a c t : We have investigated Ichneumonidae fauna of Isparta province between 2001-2007 in Turkey. Totally, 46 species, 36 genera, 12 subfamilies were found; 4 species from Anomaloninae, 6 species from Banchinae, 3 species from Campoplaginae, 4 species from Cryptinae, 14 species from Ctenopelmatinae, 4 species from Pimplinae, 2 species from Ophioninae, 5 species from Typhoninae, 1 species from Cremastinae, Metopiinae, Collyriinae and Diplazontinae. 1 genera and six species, noted in the text by asterisk, are new records for Turkey. The synonyms, general and Turkish distribution and as well as known host of all species were given. K e y w o r d s : Hymenoptera, Ichneumonidae, Fauna, Turkey. Introduction In Turkey, the past studies about Ichneumonidae were inadequate to make precise esti- mations about the existance of species. On the other hand, it is known that Turkey with its high diverse biota is expected to provide a very rich fauna of Ichneumonidae as well as other insects (ÖZBEK et al. 2003). Isparta is one of the most important refugias of Turkey, possessing different topographic conditions and various kind of climates (GRUEV 2002).

  • Nickel Hyperaccumulation As an Elemental Defense of Streptanthus
Research NickelBlackwell Publishing, Ltd. hyperaccumulation as an elemental defense of Streptanthus polygaloides (Brassicaceae): influence of herbivore feeding mode Edward M. Jhee1, Robert S. Boyd1 and Micky D. Eubanks2 1Department of Biological Sciences and 2Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology, Auburn University, Auburn, AL 36849-5407, USA Summary Author for correspondence: • No study of a single nickel (Ni) hyperaccumulator species has investigated the Robert S. Boyd impact of hyperaccumulation on herbivores representing a variety of feeding modes. Tel: +1 334 844 1626 • Streptanthus polygaloides plants were grown on high- or low-Ni soils and a series Fax: +1 334 844 1645 Email: [email protected] of no-choice and choice feeding experiments was conducted using eight arthropod herbivores. Herbivores used were two leaf-chewing folivores (the grasshopper Received: 12 March 2005 Melanoplus femurrubrum and the lepidopteran Evergestis rimosalis), a dipteran Accepted: 24 May 2005 rhizovore (the cabbage maggot Delia radicum), a xylem-feeder (the spittlebug Philaenus spumarius), two phloem-feeders (the aphid, Lipaphis erysimi and the spidermite Trialeurodes vaporariorum) and two cell-disruptors (the bug Lygus lineolaris and the whitefly Tetranychus urticae). • Hyperaccumulated Ni significantly decreased survival of the leaf-chewers and rhizovore, and significantly reduced population growth of the whitefly cell-disruptor. However, vascular tissue-feeding insects were unaffected by hyperaccumulated Ni, as was the bug cell-disruptor. •We conclude that Ni can defend against tissue-chewing herbivores but is ineffective against vascular tissue-feeding herbivores. The effects of Ni on cell-disruptors varies, as a result of either variation of insect Ni sensitivity or the location of Ni in S.

COCKERELL The present list of new forms described from Colorado is in continu ation of that given in the University of Colorado Studi es, Vol. IX, May, 1912, pp. 75-89 . Every species described as new, the descrip tion based wholly or in part on Colorado specimens, is included. For the year 1914, it has seemed best to include everything in the volumes of periodicals bearing that date, although some of the last numbers were not actually issued until early in 1915. The abbreviations are the same as those of the former list; t. 1.= type locality, while extinct species are marked t. The size of the list is surprising, and shows the richness of Colorado in new materials, as well as the activity of workers.
