Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity, Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523 Abstract A list of 1531 species ofLepidoptera is presented, collected over 15 years (1988 to 2002), in eleven southern West Virginia counties. A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. This imbalance of data between Kanawha County and other counties should even out with further sampling of the area. Key Words: Appalachian Mountains, -

Afterwards, it was only mentioned as a member of Cossidae (Daniel 1955; Schoorl 1990; Yakovlev 2004), and only on the basis of the detailed original description. After a thorough analysis of Koshantschikov's description, Vladimir V. Dubatolov (Novosibirsk, Russia) assumed that the taxon could belong to Brachodidae. The same assumption was admitted by Axel Kallies (Australia). My study of the type material shows that the taxon does in fact belong to Brachodidae and that it is conspecific with Brachodes appendiculata (Esper, 1783), a species known from South and Central Europe, southern Urals, northern Kazakhstan, and southern Siberia (Zagulyaev 1978). The nomenclature of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) comb, rev., a species which has been described three times and of which the names have been placed in three different subfamilies of Crambidae, is investigated. The generic name Maelinoptera Staudinger, 1893 syn. n. is revised as a junior subjective synonym of Evergestis Hübner, 1825 and the type-species of this monotypic genus, Hercyna anartalis Staudinger, 1892, is transferred to Evergestis. Evergestis heliacalis Zerny, 1914 syn. n. and Noctuelia anartalis Hampson, 1918 syn. n., are considered as junior subjective synonyms of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) (Hercyna). Evergestis anartalis Hampson, 1918 (Noctuelia) therefore becomes a junior secondary homonym of Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) (Hercyna). Lectotypes of Hercyna anartalis Staudinger, 1892 and Evergestis heliacalis Zerny, 1914 are designated. Evergestis anartalis (Staudinger, 1892) is redescribed; adults, male and female genitalia are illustrated. According to the specimens investigated, it is assumed that Evergestis anartalis is endemic to sub-alpine and alpine altitudes in Central Asia. Key words. Evergestis anartalis, taxonomic revision. PLANT1*, STOYAN BESHKOV2, PREDRAG JAKŠIĆ3, ANA NAHIRNIĆ2 114 West Road, Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire, CM23 3QP, England 2National Museum of Natural History, Sofia, Bulgaria 3Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics, University of Priština, Kosovska Mitrovica, Serbia ABSTRACT Pyraloidea (Lepidoptera: Crambidae & Pyralidae) were sampled in the territories of southern Serbia, Montenegro, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania on a total of 53 occasions during 2014, 2016 and 2017. A total of 173 species is reported here, comprising 97 Crambidae and 76 Pyralidae. Based upon published data, 29 species appear to be new to the fauna of Serbia, 5 species are new to the fauna of Macedonia and 37 are new to the fauna of Albania. The data are discussed. Every species described as new, the descrip tion based wholly or in part on Colorado specimens, is included. For the year 1914, it has seemed best to include everything in the volumes of periodicals bearing that date, although some of the last numbers were not actually issued until early in 1915. The abbreviations are the same as those of the former list; t. 1.= type locality, while extinct species are marked t. The size of the list is surprising, and shows the richness of Colorado in new materials, as well as the activity of workers. -

The box tree moth, Cydalima perspectalis (Walker, 1859) comb. n., is native to India, China, Korea, Japan and the Rus- sian Far East. Its larvae are a serious pest of different species of Buxus. Recently, C. perspectalis was introduced into Europe and first recorded from Germany in 2006. This species has been placed in various spilomeline genera including Palpita Hübner, 1808, Diaphania Hübner, 1818, Glyphodes Guenée, 1854 and the monotypic Neoglyphodes Streltzov, 2008. In order to solve this nomen- clatural confusion and to find a reasonable and verifiable generic placement for the box tree moth, the morphology of the above mentioned and some additional spilomeline taxa was investigated and their phylogeny analysed. The results show that C. perspec- talis belongs to a monophylum that includes three of the genera in which it was previously placed: Glyphodes, Diaphania and Pal- pita. Within this monophylum, it is closely related to the Asian Cydalima Lederer, 1863. As a result of this analysis, Sisyrophora Lederer, 1863 syn. rev. and Neoglyphodes Streltzov, 2008 syn. -

On October 2006, during an episode of abnormally warm weather, the African moth Cornifrons ulceratalis (Lederer, 1858) was captured simultaneously for the first time in several sites in north-eastern Spain, the Balearic Islands and southern France. A deep depression situated over the Atlantic at the time gave rise to warm south-westerly winds, accompanied by suspended dust, that blew towards the north-western Mediterranean Basin. Back trajectories of air masses at two different altitudinal levels indicate that the moths most probably originated from an area located in Morocco and northern Algeria, where C. ulceratalis can be extremely abundant. With winter approaching, this invasion of a typically non-migratory species into the north-western Mediterra- nean Basin provides a good example of the so-called “pied piper” phenomenon, by which wind-borne insects may be carried into areas unfavourable for survival or reproduction.
