Gillette Museum of Arthropod Diversity, Department of Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management Colorado State University, Fort Collins, CO 80523 Abstract A list of 1531 species ofLepidoptera is presented, collected over 15 years (1988 to 2002), in eleven southern West Virginia counties. A variety of collecting methods was used, including netting, light attracting, light trapping and pheromone trapping. The specimens were identified by the currently available pictorial sources and determination keys. Many were also sent to specialists for confirmation or identification. The majority of the data was from Kanawha County, reflecting the area of more intensive sampling effort by the senior author. This imbalance of data between Kanawha County and other counties should even out with further sampling of the area. Key Words: Appalachian Mountains, -

Afterwards, it was only mentioned as a member of Cossidae (Daniel 1955; Schoorl 1990; Yakovlev 2004), and only on the basis of the detailed original description. After a thorough analysis of Koshantschikov's description, Vladimir V. Dubatolov (Novosibirsk, Russia) assumed that the taxon could belong to Brachodidae. The same assumption was admitted by Axel Kallies (Australia). My study of the type material shows that the taxon does in fact belong to Brachodidae and that it is conspecific with Brachodes appendiculata (Esper, 1783), a species known from South and Central Europe, southern Urals, northern Kazakhstan, and southern Siberia (Zagulyaev 1978). Abstract: Data on the geographical distribution of Evergestis alborivulalis (Eversmann, 1843) in Palaearctic are given, with maps. Biological data and habitats of the species are presented. Structure of genitalia and morphological characteristic of wings are illustrated in colour. With 13 figures. Introduction The distribution patterns and life cycle of Evergestis alborivulalis have been of long- standing interest to researchers. The species was originally described from Russian material from the Ural region (EVERSMANN 1843). Systematically, E. alborivulalis belongs to the order Lepidoptera, family Crambidae, subfamily Evergestinae. There is very little information about the geographical range and bionomics of this species. Nobody has ever correlated and mapped distributional information already published in different works. Here, a map of its distribution in Eurasia is shown. Even though it is inevitably sketchy, it demonstrates the highly localised occurrence of E. alborivulalis. Until now, there has been no information about the larva and food plant, and little was known about the habitat preferences. In the last few years, intensive and systematic surveys in Hungary have been made by the author. Our database can be found in text. Detailed information can now be given about the habitat in Hungary. Natura 2000 habi- tat types of priority interest for the conservation of this moth have been selected. -

Anania coronata (Hufnagel), a Holarctic species of pyraustine crambid moth, has long been treated as having two geographically separated subspecies – the nominotypical Anania coronata in the Palaearctic Region and Anania coronata tertialis (Guenee)´ in the Nearctic Region. Maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference analysis of mitochondrial DNA barcodes both recover four well-supported, reciprocally monophyletic groups within Anania coronata. Qualitative and quantitative analyses of genital structures reveal diagnostic differences that correspond to the four barcode lineages. On the basis of both molecular and morphological evidence, we conclude that Anania coronata is actually a complex of four species. -

PLANT1*, STOYAN BESHKOV2, PREDRAG JAKŠIĆ3, ANA NAHIRNIĆ2 114 West Road, Bishops Stortford, Hertfordshire, CM23 3QP, England 2National Museum of Natural History, Sofia, Bulgaria 3Faculty of Natural Science and Mathematics, University of Priština, Kosovska Mitrovica, Serbia ABSTRACT Pyraloidea (Lepidoptera: Crambidae & Pyralidae) were sampled in the territories of southern Serbia, Montenegro, the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia and Albania on a total of 53 occasions during 2014, 2016 and 2017. A total of 173 species is reported here, comprising 97 Crambidae and 76 Pyralidae. Based upon published data, 29 species appear to be new to the fauna of Serbia, 5 species are new to the fauna of Macedonia and 37 are new to the fauna of Albania. The data are discussed. Records of Two New Palearctic Moth Species Associated with Queen Anne’S Lace in Nova Scotia

Soc. 13: 54-57 (2017) NOTE Records of two new Palearctic moth species associated with Queen Anne’s lace in Nova Scotia Jeffrey Ogden Daucus carota Linnaeus, commonly known as Queen Anne’s lace or wild carrot, is native to Europe and southwestern Asia. It is believed to have been introduced to North America in soil ballast by the first European settlers (Lindroth 1957). It has historically been used as a food source and is the ancestral plant of our common cultivated garden carrot. Since its introduction, Daucus carota has spread widely and is common to much of North America. In Nova Scotia, this biennial is a very common plant of fields, roadsides and other weedy areas throughout the mainland and parts of Cape Breton (Zinck 1998). Previous insect surveys have recorded hundreds of species of insects attracted to the large white flower heads of the plant (Judd 1970; Largo & Mann 1987). Although considered a common weed species, Daucus carota is an important host to numerous beneficial insect species, including many pollinators and predatory species (Judd 1970). In this report, the first detections ofSitochroa palealis (Denis & Schiffermüller) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), the carrot seed moth, and Depressaria depressana (Fabricius) (Lepidoptera: Depressariidae), the purple carrot seed moth, are described from Nova Scotia. Larvae of each species were collected within the flower heads of Daucus carota during the summers of 2015 to 2017. Adults were collected as part of an ongoing light trapping survey and through lab rearing. Verified photograph records were also considered. Voucher specimens have been deposited in the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources Reference Collection, the Nova Scotia Museum, and the author’s personal collection. -

However, vascular tissue-feeding insects were unaffected by hyperaccumulated Ni, as was the bug cell-disruptor. •We conclude that Ni can defend against tissue-chewing herbivores but is ineffective against vascular tissue-feeding herbivores. COCKERELL The present list of new forms described from Colorado is in continu ation of that given in the University of Colorado Studi es, Vol. IX, May, 1912, pp. 75-89 . Every species described as new, the descrip tion based wholly or in part on Colorado specimens, is included. For the year 1914, it has seemed best to include everything in the volumes of periodicals bearing that date, although some of the last numbers were not actually issued until early in 1915. The abbreviations are the same as those of the former list; t. 1.= type locality, while extinct species are marked t. The size of the list is surprising, and shows the richness of Colorado in new materials, as well as the activity of workers. -

Sammut Abstract Acrobasis obliqua clusinella Zeller, 1848, Acrobasis centunculella (Mann, 1859), Psorosa dahliella (Treitschke, 1832), Psorosa mediterranella Amsel, 1953, Euzopherodes lutisignella (Mann, 1869), Delplanqueia inscriptella (Duponchel, 1836), Isauria dilucidella (Duponchel, 1836), Euchromius gozmanyi Bleszynski, 1961, Udea numeralis (Hübner, 1796), Ancylosis (Heterographis) costistrigella (Ragonot, 1890) and Caina deletella Ragonot, 1893 are new to the Maltese Islands. The latter two species are also the first records for the European fauna. Where known, data on the biology, the first stages and the distribution of the species is given. Additional notes on some other pyraloid species from Malta are also given.
