Dinner is at 6pm and the movie begins at 6:30pm. Discussion will follow. We are seeing The Glass Castle (PG-13) Based on a memoir, four siblings must learn to take care of themselves as their responsibility-averse, free-spirit parents both inspire and inhibit them. When sober, the children's brilliant and charismatic father captured their imagination, teaching them physics, geology, and how to embrace life fearlessly. But when he drank, he was dishonest and destructive. Meanwhile, their mother abhorred the idea of domesticity and didn't want to take on the work of raising a family. RSVP at [email protected] or by calling the Cathedral Office. Stewardship: Investing in Ourselves, Investing in our Community Brothers and Sisters in Christ, Happy New Year to you and your family! As we close out the old year and enter a new, it gives us time to reflect about ourselves, our families and our community. For ourselves, it may be the realization of how many pies and other sweets we ate over the holidays (maybe that is just me), how busy we were over the holiday season with events and the many commitments, or making sure that we purchased the right gift for our loved ones. Now that the holidays are over, the New Year gives us time to invest in ourselves. This investment could be a new membership at the gym to focus on our health and well-being to help off-set the holiday goodies. It could also be the proverbial New Year’s resolution, but this time you are going to stick with it. Now that things have slowed down, we could buy that new book that we have been meaning to read over the holidays and just simply enjoy some down time for ourselves. For our family and friends, this investment could be a focused effort to spend more quality time with those special to us, maybe by having dinner at home, by watching a good movie, or just talking and connecting. It could be by watching our children play with that special toy or game that Santa brought them for Christmas and seeing their joy. We could also find the time to stop by and see an old friend for no reason to catch up and make sure they are OK. For me, the kids are now back at college, my Wife and I have put away the holiday decorations, so it is my time to take my Wife out on a date. The holidays are a wonderful and blessed time of year, but with all of the hustle and bustle, the New Year can give us perspective to find time to spend with the ones we care for and do so at a slower and personal pace. For our Community, during the holidays, I am sure that we all took some time to buy that extra gift for the Office or Church giving tree or donated to the local food bank to ensure that those less fortunate had something special or something to eat to help brighten their holiday season. As we enter the New Year, this can be a time to understand what our Stewardship means to our Church Community and Family. Before I joined the Stewardship Committee, I didn’t know of the great work that our Church Family does for our collective community; donating to food banks, providing clothes to various shelters, providing assistance to our elderly shut ins, or simply helping those that come to our doors seeking assistance. Holy Trinity has a long history of being a steward to our community and being there when called upon. As we all enter the New Year, this is our time to invest into our church family and community so we can continue our good work for those that are in need and take care of our beautiful Cathedral. If you haven’t had the time to sign this year’s pledge, please take a moment and ask for a new card and be a part of the special things that your family helps with within our broader communities. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask a committee member and we will be happy to address them. Yours in Christ – Tony Seat And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever.
