Scholarship 2017 Epsilon Nu Lambda Chapter The Epsilon Nu Lambda Charitable Foundation Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Epsilon Nu Lambda Chapter P O Box 7941 Portsmouth, Virginia 23707 SCHOLARSHIP PURPOSE The members of the Epsilon Nu Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Portsmouth, Virginia, created a scholarship program to provide financial assistance to a graduating high school senior/s who will be entering college as a full-time student in the fall immediately following their senior year. Scholarships in the amount of $2,000 or $1,000 will be awarded to a deserving student/s who has demonstrated academic ability, community involvement, leadership qualities and exemplary character. Payment will be made directly to the institution that the student will be attending that fall. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS 1. The applicant must be an African American male. 2. The applicant must have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale at the time of application submission. 3. The applicant must be a graduating high school senior from a Portsmouth, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake or Suffolk, Virginia high school. 4. The Scholarship Committee will require verification that the applicant has been accepted to an accredited four year college or university prior to tendering scholarship funds to that college or university. 5. The applicant must provide two letters of reference. One letter must be from an academic staff member (teacher, guidance counselor, or administrator) from the applicant’s high school who is familiar with the applicant’s academic abilities and school activities. The second letter should be from a community leader or someone who has directly managed the student, for example in a place of employment (not related to the applicant or the applicant’s family) such as a minister, youth group leader, employment supervisor or political leader who knows the applicant well. 6. The applicant must have proven demonstrated involvement in extracurricular activities. This can include school and community affairs. 7. The applicant must submit an essay containing a minimum of 300 written words on the following topic: The Black and Blue Divide – “Are race relationships between the African American community and law enforcement able to be healed?” 8. Recipients of this year’s scholarship(s) will be required to attend the Epsilon Nu Lambda’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., scholarship breakfast to be held on January 20, 2018, from 9 am until 12:00 Noon at the Edmonds Center, Portsmouth, VA. Each recipient will receive 3 complimentary tickets (one for himself and two for his invited guests). Failure to attend the breakfast will disqualify scholarship eligibility. In addition, upon notification, winner/s of the 2018 scholarship will be required to submit a picture (preferably your high school graduation picture) of himself that will be included in the breakfast program’s souvenir journal. 9. Award recipients must notify the scholarship committee, in writing, by July 16, 2018 of their post-secondary school of choice, or the award will be forfeited APPLICATION PROCEDURES The applicant must do the following: 1. Submit the original copy of a completed application form to the address listed below. Type written applications are preferred or the application must be neat and legibly printed . 2. Have the letters of reference, mailed directly by the individuals making the recommendation to the address listed below. 3. Have his official high school transcript(s) submitted to the address listed below. 4. Submit all materials (application, transcript(s), letters of recommendation, essay) by November 27, 2017 (materials must be received or postmarked). The recipient will be selected by the scholarship committee using the following criteria: • Academic Ability • Community Involvement • Leadership Ability • School Activities • Letters of Recommendation • The Essay The criteria will be given equal weight in the selection process. Engine oil is expected to be consumed in normally operating engines. Therefore, regular oil level checking and oil changes are required as part of the factory maintenance schedule. • The purpose of oil changes is to prevent oil deterioration. A separate requirement is to maintain the oil level, independent of the oil change interval. It is necessary to check the oil level at every fueling stop and replenish the oil, if necessary. This is one of several check items that the owner’s manual recommends at every fueling stop. • Operation with deteriorated or low engine oil causes reduced lubrication and cooling, as well as impaired operation of hydraulic components.

    KAPPA PHI GAMMA SORORITY, INC. BY-LAWS – NU CHAPTER 1. Attendance/Lateness at General Body Meetings A. One excused absence will be allowed per term. i. Unexcused absences are defined as no reasonable explanation given. ii. Excused absences are defined as: a. Exams the next day b. Medical emergency c. Work iii. An unexcused absence will result in a $20 fine. B. Lateness i. Two tardies count as one absence. It is considered tardy if Soror is more than five minutes late. ii. Sorors will be fined $5 for any meeting that the Soror is late to. C. If a Soror must leave a meeting early, she must provide the secretary with a legitimate excuse at least 24 hours in advance. D. Secretary takes attendance at every meeting. 2. Conduct at General Body Meetings A. The President shall post an agenda stating which topics will be covered during a GBM at least 24 hours before the meeting takes place. B. Business casual attire MUST be worn to all GBMs unless otherwise mentioned. i. Deviations from this rule include, but are not limited to, casual days, special events, and religious observances. ii. The president holds responsibility and reserves the right to notify the chapter about these “special” days. C. No cell phone usage during meetings is allowed unless it is an emergency. D. The Secretary will send out minutes 24 hours after the meeting. E. Meeting time will be discussed at beginning of every term. F. No profanity, raising of voices, or disrespecting any sisters during meetings. G. Be respectful and pay attention to whomever is speaking during the meetings.

    Phi Sigma Kappa - Nu Chapter New Member Education - Spring 2020 All new member events are completely optional. If a new member is unable to attend an event for any reason, they simply must notify the new member educator of their absence. A new member may also choose to opt out of an event that they have attended, if they choose. If a new member misses an education session regarding the history and operation of the chapter, a makeup session will be scheduled with the new member educator at the new member’s convenience. All new members are invited to all of our charitable and philanthropic events if they so choose. Purpose New member education at Phi Sigma Kappa is necessary to prepare new members to become full members of the chapter. During the new member education process, the new members will learn the history of our fraternity, as well as its expectations of every member at national and local levels. However, it is little help for those who are “going at it alone,” or a small group who are learning NTGreek without the aid of a teacher’s pronunciation. This grammar’s introductory lessons go to great lengths to present a full-orbed pronunciation of the Erasmian Greek phonemic system. Those who are new to the Greek language without an instructor’s guidance will welcome this help, and it will prepare them to read Greek and not simply to translate it into their language. The phonic sounds of the Greek language are required to be carefully learned. A saturation of these sounds may be accomplished by using the accompanying MP3 audio files.
