Well, both teams came 7th which was a House to Buckingham Palace. I was lucky enough to have a pass little disappointing as the target was 5th or higher. The standard of allowing me to stand right outside Buckingham Palace so I had a football was very high and the top 4 teams in the world are all great view of the whole proceedings, and even had a brief interview on BBC Radio London after being accosted by a roving reporter with a mic! Weary but elated, I got home on Monday evening looking forward to a day off, but happy to have been part of London 2012. I have been lucky enough to work at several Paralympic Games (Atlanta in 1996, Sydney in 2000 and Athens in 2004) and up until 2012 my view was that Sydney had been the best. It has been a great way for the charity to raise its profile and increase awareness in the local area as well as raising some much needed funds. To date, the gross sales for the shop are at £41,000. This money has enabled Noah’s Ark to run more family days and sibling outings allowing families the chance to enjoy themselves and spend time together in fun-filled surroundings. However, over the summer months the charity has been the victim of a series of totally demoralising burglaries and thefts from its storage facility in Barnet. Over 110 sacks of processed goods were stolen from the charity’s storage facility in Byng Road, Barnet – the site of its proposed children’s hospice building. Noah’s Ark no longer keeps stock at the Byng Road property but needs to find alternative permanent storage quickly as donations are coming in thick and fast. Don’t forget to donate your unwanted clothes or bric-a-brac. Noah’s Ark relies on a steady supply of good quality donated goods in order to maximise its profits. If you are able to help with permanent storage space please call Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice on 020 8449 8877 .

This year, the organisation Peace One Day, called for and worked towards a day of ceasefire and non-violence – the Global Truce 2012 campaign. The aim was to get countries, their leaders and governments to agree to stop violence for the day, which in Afghanistan, for example, would enable Rotary and other charities to inoculate millions of children against polio as part of the End Polio Now campaign. It would also enable aide and relief workers to go into those areas of the country which were usually too dangerous, and deliver medical supplies, food and other vital equipment without fear of ambush or kidnap.
