[Re- markable records of Macrolepidoptera in Sweden 2010.] – Entomologisk Tidskrift 132 (1): 11-23. Uppsala, Sweden 2011. ISSN 0013-886x. This is the 38th consecutive annual report on interesting finds and provincial records of Macrolepidoptera in Sweden. Periods of high pressures with warm spells of SE wind from end of June continued and reached their maximum in the middle of July. Temperatures above 30o C in the southern parts of Sweden created a fundament for immigration and high insect activity. In August low pressures with warm and moist E winds and periods of high pressures in the autumn were also favourable for migrants. Many remarkable finds have been reported and among them the most interesting species were Scopula nigropunc- tata, Orthonama obstipata, Eulithis pyropata, Eupithecia selinata, Narraga fasciolaria, Pachycnemia hippocastanaria, Agrius convolvuli, Acherontia atropos, Macroglossum stellatarum, Hyles livornica, Hippotion celerio, Euproctis chrysorrhoea, Thaumetopoea processionea, Eilema griseolum, Colobochyla salicalis, Hypena obesalis, Prodotis stolida, Nycteola asiatica, Trichoplusia ni, Autographa mandarina, Cryphia algae, Calopistria juventina, Hydraecia ultima, Spodoptera exigua, Cucullia argentea, Agrotis puta, Xestia ditrapezium, X. atrata,! Heliothis armigera and Heliothis adaucta. The species Noctua interposita, Conisania luteago and Archanara neurica are now considered as resident in Sweden. The moths Cucullia artemisiae and Agrochola lychnidis, considered as regionally extinct according to the Red List of Swedish Species (Gärdenfors ed. 2010) were redis- covered. Horisme corticata was the only species found new to Sweden this year. Due to a taxonomic revision the moth Heliothis maritima is removed from the Swedish list and is replaced by Heliothis adaucta (Fibiger et al 2009). It brings the total numbers of Mac- rolepidoptera species found in Sweden to 1108. The list of species classified as introduced speices has been somewhat revised this year. As a result, 1095 species are now considered as resident or temporary and 13 as introduced. The classification is according to Catalogus Lepidopterorum Sueciae (1994) with minor corrections following Karsholt & Razowski (1996). G. Palmqvist, Vattumannens gata 126, SE-136 62 Haninge, Sweden. • The Maria Curie-Skłodowska University Botanical Garden in Lublin As a Refuge of the Moths (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) Within the City
Acta Biologica 23/2016 | www.wnus.edu.pl/ab | DOI: 10.18276/ab.2016.23-02 | strony 15–34 The Maria Curie-Skłodowska University Botanical Garden in Lublin as a refuge of the moths (Lepidoptera: Heterocera) within the city Łukasz Dawidowicz,1 Halina Kucharczyk2 Department of Zoology, Maria Curie-Skłodowska University, Akademicka 19, 20-033 Lublin, Poland 1 e-mail: [email protected] 2 e-mail: [email protected] Keywords biodiversity, urban fauna, faunistics, city, species composition, rare species, conservation Abstract In 2012 and 2013, 418 species of moths at total were recorded in the Botanical Garden of the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University in Lublin. The list comprises 116 species of Noctuidae (26.4% of the Polish fauna), 116 species of Geometridae (28.4% of the Polish fauna) and 63 species of other Macrolepidoptera representatives (27.9% of the Polish fauna). The remaining 123 species were represented by Microlepidoptera. Nearly 10% of the species were associated with wetland habitats, what constitutes a surprisingly large proportion in such an urbanised area. Comparing the obtained data with previous studies concerning Polish urban fauna of Lepidoptera, the moths assemblages in the Botanical Garden were the most similar to the one from the Natolin Forest Reserve which protects the legacy of Mazovian forests. Several recorded moths appertain to locally and rarely encountered species, as Stegania cararia, Melanthia procellata, Pasiphila chloerata, Eupithecia haworthiata, Horisme corticata, Xylomoia graminea, Polychrysia moneta. In the light of the conducted studies, the Botanical Garden in Lublin stands out as quite high biodiversity and can be regarded as a refuge for moths within the urban limits of Lublin.

The newly recorded moths and butterflies were resting in caves during daytime in the the warm season, three species were also overwintering there. We observed Catocala elocata at 28 cave inspections, followed by Mormo maura (18), Catocala nupta (7), Peribatodes rhomboidaria, and Euplagia quadripunctaria (6). More than half of the species have been repeatedly observed in caves in Austria or abroad, so their relationship with such sites is apparently not completely random. Since the increase of records in Austria coincided with a considerable rise in the annual number of hot days (maximum temperatures ≥30°C) from 2015 onwards, we interpret the growing inclination of certain Lepidoptera towards daytime sheltering in caves as a behavioral reaction to climate warming. Efter at have praktiseret denne nummerering i nogle år, droppedes dog betegnelsen "2.

These moths were found to show a strong negative allometric 25 relationship between egg size and maternal body size. Using recently developed comparative methods based on an Ornstein-Uhlenbeck process, we show that maternal body size explains over half the variation in egg size. However other determinants are less clear: ecological factors, previously hypothesised to affect egg size, were not found to have a considerable influence in the Geometridae. The limited role of such third factors suggests a direct causal link between egg size 30 and body size rather than an indirect correlation mediated by some ecological factors. Notably, no large geometrid species lay small eggs. This pattern suggest that maternal body size poses a physical constraint on egg size but, within these limits, there appears to be a rather invariable selection for larger eggs.

    J. Wetlands Biodiversity (2018) 8: 113-148 THE MACROLEPIDOPTERA (INSECTA) OF THE RAZELM-SINOE LAGOON COMPLEX (DOBROGEA, ROMANIA) Levente Székely Received: 04.06.2018 / Accepted: 04.07.2018 Abstract: The Danube Delta is one of the most important biosphere reserves of Europe. The most important component of this reserve stands for the Razelm-Sinoe Lagoon Complex placed in the southern part of the Danube Delta. In this work are shown the outmost results of Macrolepidoptera fauna (Insecta: Lepidoptera) of this region, based on faunistic research carried out during 2007-2018, in over 40 collecting trips. 552 species of Macrolepidoptera are listed, and as a new approach, the species are presented according to the most characteristic habitats they can be found in. The most important Macrolepidoptera species in this area are Megaspilates mundataria (Stoll, 1782), Eublemma porphyrinia (Freyer, 1845) and Cucullia argentina (Fabricius, 1787), only to be found in Europe in this region (on The European Union territory). A special attention shall be paid to a series of very rare species, located in this region, that are known in Romania, especially on the territory of the Razelm-Sinoe Lagoon Complex, e.g.: Lasiocampa eversmanni (Eversmann, 1843), Narraga tessularia (Metzner, 1845), Chariaspilates formosaria (Eversmann, 1837), Scopula orientalis (Alphéraky, 1876), Idaea sericeata (Hubner, [1813]), Eupithecia variostrigata (Alphéraky, 1876), Eupithecia biornata (Christoph, 1867), Ocnogyna parasita (Hübner, 1790), Rhyparioides metelkana (Lederer, 1861), Grammodes bifasciata (Petagna, 1787), Clytie syriaca (Bugnion, 1837), Leucania punctosa (Treitscke, 1825), Protarchanara brevilinea (Fenn, 1864), Dychagyris melanura (Kollar, 1846), Cervina (Gortyna) cervago (Eversmann, 1844), Cucullia biornata (Fischer v. This study represents a synthesis of recent faunistical results (2012–2015), regarding the Macrolepidoptera of Dobrogea (south-eastern Romania) (Fig. 1A). Records of species of great faunistical and zoogeographical importance for the Romanian fauna are included. Eublemma porphyrina (Freyer, 1844) is reported for the first time in the Romanian fauna. The presence of several species known in the country based exclusively on very old records is confirmed (e.g.Dryobotodes carbonis (F. Wagner, 1831), Eremodrina pertinax (Staudinger, 1879), Zekelita antiqualis (Hübner, [1809])). Certain rare species with few records are also presented, such as Catopta thrips (Hübner, 1818), Sphingonaepiopsis gorgoniades (Hübner, 1819), Grammodes bifasciata (Petagna, 1787), Clytie syriaca (Bugnion, 1837), Symira dentinosa Freyer, 1839, Chazaria incarnata (Freyer, 1838), Protarchanara brevilinea (Fenn, 1864), Polymixis rufocincta (Geyer, [1828]), Gortyna cervago Eversmann, 1844, Dichagyris melanura (Kollar, 1846), Polyommatus (Agrodiaetus) admetus (Esper, 1783), Libythea celtis (Laicharting in Fuessly, 1782), Kirinia roxelana (Cramer, 1777), etc. Several Macrolepidoptera species recorded for the first time in Dobrogea are also included, eg: Hyloicus pinastri (Linnaeus, 1758), Cyclophora quercimontaria (Bastelberger, 1897), Perconia strigillaria (Hübner, 1787), Dryobotodes carbonis (F. Wagner, 1831), Meganephria bimaculosa (Linnaeus, 1767), Cerastis leucographa ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775), Noctua janthe (Borkhausen, 1792).

Abstract In the North of Erlangen (city in Middle Frankonia / Northern Bavaria) a remarkable forest covers the Northern slope of the "Burgberg", a hilly outgrowth of the moun- tainous sandstone area of Frankonia. Within an area of 7 hectares more than one hundred ancient oak trees are growing. In the age of about 250 years the trees have many wrinkles, hollows and hiding places. Especially insects need these ecological niches to survive. In the case of the rare leather beetle Osmoderma eremita, old oaks may offer those conditions the beetle recommends for its life. In former times the beetle had enough similar places to maintain a closed area. But today more and more old oaks disappear from our country side. Consequently the distribution is restricted to fewer places and the beetle's future is uncertain. The oak stand also produces lots of dead twigs and branches, which cover the surface below.
