Victoria’s Dawn Hartigan and W.A.’s David Carr have been nominated as the Oceania Region’s selections as the IAAF Masters Athlete of the Year. Dawn, of course, is absolutely the best Pole Vaulter in Masters Athletics. David is a multiple World Champion over 400m - 1500m as well as the Steeplechase.

VALE TOM KELLY Many of you will have known Tom Kelly, particularly those who go to Doncaster Venue. Sadly, Tom was killed in a car accident this month. A Life Member of both Box Hill and Doncaster Athletic Clubs, and a true hero in our sport, Tom Kelly’s sudden passing will be felt by the entire Aus- tralian athletic community. At 82, Tom was still active in coaching and had a long list of Olympians and State and Australian Champions he had nurtured. I particularly liked Richard Trembath’s notice in The Sun - “Don’t worry Tom, I’ll put the hurdles away”.

March 25-30 WMA Indoor Championships - Budapest. Hungary 4 Masterpieces TREASURER REQUIRED

After 10 years of sterling service Al Willey has indicated that he will not be renominating for the VMA Committee at the next AGM due in April 2014.

The VMA Committee needs to find a replacement, and the sooner the better, so that Al can pass on his extensive knowledge of the financial workings of VMA.

Ideally, the Treasurer needs to have a quite dictatorial attitude in order to keep the otherwise spend- thrift Committee members in check. A thick skin is a definite requirement, as is a pedantic attention to detail. The existing Committee members have all declined to take on the job as they have witnessed the lack of respect for the position. The successful candidate should expect to contribute many hours of hard work, with little thanks and no reward, other than the satisfaction gained from keeping the club afloat.

Formal qualifications are not necessary, but some bookkeeping experience and knowledge of banking procedures would be helpful.

The main tasks are to receive and bank member fees, and to pay our bills. Attendance at the monthly Committee meeting, and preparation of a monthly report on receipts and payments and an annual report for the AGM is also required. A total of 3 - 4 hours per month is all it takes.

It should be understood that the club is, in fact, in a strong position financially.

A detailed position description is available.

Interested members please contact the VMA secretary Phil Urquhart on 0419 357 823 Feel free to discuss the requirements with Al Willey on 9870 7616

In the Inter-Venue section they jumped to the front in the first event and once Lavinia Petrie started running there was never going to be any catching them. Their final margin was 101pts over an impressive effort from Glen Eira who finished the season very strongly for a clear second and their total was actually the same as Knox scored last year. Aberfeldie were very consistent throughout for third but lacked the really high scorers to challenge the top two. East Bur- wood had their best year for quite a while but some of the other Venues were a bit disappointing consider- ing their past strength in distance running. Overall, the general standard has been higher this year compared to last year and numbers are a lit- tle better. This year we had 90 men and 30 women competing compared to 81 men and 31 women last year which is encouraging and a reversal of the previous downward trend. The half marathon on September 8th was the final race in the series and there were a large number of very high percentages recorded. In the women’s section Lavinia Petrie ran true to form to record another wonderful 94.95% which gave her victory once again in the cumulative competition. Helen Stanley also of Knox ran really well right through the season to take second place and newcomer Anna Kasapis of Aberfeldie did an excellent job to take third. Helen Van Der Nagel of East Burwood also deserves credit for being one of only three women to run all 5 races. In the men’s section the competition could not have been tighter. Going into the last race John Gra- ham led by 0.07 of one point on a cumulative basis but was in reality about half a point behind Gary Stewart as Gary had outscored John by that much in the cross country and could drop that result if he ran better in the half. Both guys gave it everything they had to record some great percentages, 86.37 for John and 85.24 for Gary. Once these results were taken in and the scores from the cross country taken out it meant that John was the winner by 0.56 of one point! Behind them Andrew Edwards actually made up ground on the leaders although recording a slightly lower percentage of 84.60 to finish just 5 pts behind in third place and it was good to see the next 4 places all over 300 pts. In the half there were some standout perfor- mances including overall winner Bruce Graham from the ACT with 90.34%, Mark Purvis 88.55% and Steven Quirk 87.92% plus several others over 80%. In summing up the sea- son can generally be considered as better than last year but the challenge as always is how to get more consistent entries to all events. The Committee would welcome input from individuals or Venues for any ideas that may help in this regard.

Members of the Knox team - John Graham, Lavinia Petrie, Helen Stanley, Gary Stewart, Paul Twining and Jock Cravana 6

There are two main bodies in Masters Athletics - WMA (World Masters Athletics), and WMG (World Masters Games). We are affiliated with WMA and the upcoming Championships in Brazil are being held by WMA. The WMA events are purely athletics while the WMG include many other sports - cy- cling, swimming, tennis etc. Our members happily patronise both events and a contingent of Aussies, and the following Vics, attended the recent World Masters Games in Torino, Italy. Although fewer of us attended Torino than are going to Brazil, the re- sults were still outstanding. Here are the results -

Michael Barrand in Torino Hi Russ, We had a marvelous couple of weeks, firstly in Provence where my older brother lives and then in Torino at the Games. Since taking up Masters running a couple of years ago I have been lucky to draw on my brother, Rex Barrand's athletics experience. Many of your readers may know him from his involvement in State athletics – first as a sprinter with MHSOB in the 60's and then moving to SSH to run and coach. exR has basically trained me via Skype as he lives in France (I live in Colac), and that was part of the reason why we chose to run in Turin rather than go to Brazil in October. We hoped that the competition would be strong, assuming that the Europeans would be more likely to attend this event in preference to Brazil. In the end the competition may have been a bit less than expected but I was pleased with my 800 run (and felt that if pushed I could have run a few seconds quicker) as it all seemed to go to plan. The city of Torino was excellent for us to stay in. We had a won- derful time competing, sight seeing and enjoying the elegance of the city. The weather was unseasonably hot (around 35 degrees every day) but that was certainly better than everyone was experiencing back home. Having the chance to work with Rex on the track again was a very satisfying experience as well. It took me back to my youth. My wife took a video of the 800m race, which also had Allan Mayfield and Bob Pearce in it and although she was concentrating on where I was, if they want a copy of the video I'd be happy to send them one. Allan and Bob were very generous in their support and advice to me and I think that this is one of the most impressive aspects to Masters running that I've found since taking it up. And just to confirm the "rooster to feather duster" nature of the sport, due to bulging disks in the back that struck recently, I can barely walk at the moment so the elation of Turin has quickly dissipated so it looks like my season is over for now.

Gold,Gold,Gold,Gold. By KRYSTEN MANUEL

IT’S one thing to be an Australian Champion, but to be the best in the world is an ac- complishment some people spend their whole lives striving for but Rachel Little and Donna Burgess have done exactly that – taking home four gold medals and two silver at the 2013 World Masters Games in Torino, Italy earlier this month. “I’m just so rapt,” Burgess said. “I knew Rachel would run well but I wasn’t sure that I would.” Little was equally stunned, but owes her success to her husband and trainer, Ken Little, as well as Team Velocity. “It’s all down to technique and Ken is so far ahead of everybody,” Little said. “Other trainers and athletes over there couldn’t believe our technique and that we’d come from this little town. (Wodonga) The other coaches picked Ken’s brains all week!” Both women were up against the odds, going from temperatures of 11 degrees to 38 degrees, jet-lag from a 26-hour flight, and not having had competition since March but walking into what was the middle of the season for many competitors. Little’s first race was the W45 400m, which she won with a time of 60.22 sec. “I won my heat but the competitors in the other heats, I knew they were only cruising, so I knew it wasn’t going to be easy,” she said. “The final was next day. The track was brand new, it was a rubberised carpet so it’s silent. You can’t even hear your own footsteps let alone someone else’s. I was caught at the 300 mark and saw her come up on my inside and I thought ‘this race is mine.’ “I held my technique and form right to the finish line, but it was pretty close.” Little also took home silver in the 200m with a time of 27.3 seconds behind the world record holder from France, Maryvonne Iccare. “Unfortunately we had to run in torrential rain, there was lightning and thunder,” Little said. Donna also emerged victorious in the W50 400m with a personal best time of 64.32 sec. “We went straight to a final,” Burgess said. “I won the 400 easy. Coming down the straight, I was waiting for them to come past me but they never did, so that gave me a lot of confidence.” Donna also took out the 800m with another personal best time of 2.29.75 min. “Again, my 800 went straight to a final,” she said. “There was a Dutch woman who went out really quick and Ken had said, ‘if they go out quick you have to go with them,’ so I did. I went around her and got to the 600m and she was still with me, but I was too strong coming down the straight. “I was a lot fitter than I’d thought – I’d underestimated my- self.” Little and Burgess also competed in the 160 – 199 year 4 x 100m and 4 x 400m relays, taking out gold in the 4 x 100m and silver in the 4 x 400m. “It was Donna and I and two girls from Great Britain in the 4 x 100m,” Little said. “Donna was on the first leg, myself in second and the girl on last leg was fastest in the whole competition!” While it was an emotional series of wins for both competitors, Burgess was particularly emotional once winning the 800m. “My Dad ran in the World Masters in 1998 and he won a silver medal in the 800m,” she said. “I took his medal over there with me. He’s passed now but if he had have been around he would have been proud – I went one better and got a gold!” Burgess and Little will continue training with Team Velocity, with their eyes set to defend their titles in France, 2015 at the Championships. RESULTS - VMA 10 MILE CHAMPIONSHIPS PRINCES PARK - 25 August 2013

In reasonably good running conditions forty six runners assembled at Princes park to run VMA’s 10 Mile Championship event. The event, hosted by Aberfeldie Venue is the fourth in the five series Browne Shield competition and this year attracted excellent participant numbers and competition. It was also pleasing that ten of the fourteen VMA Venues were represented. For the third consecutive year Aberfeldie’s Shane Draper (M40) won the event in a personal best time of 60.50 and close on Shane’s heels around the five lap course and second over the line was Ben Jordan 37 seconds behind in 61.27. In third place in 62.59 was Ewen Wilson from Glen Eira venue with an excellent Age Graded percentage of 87.32. Anna Kasapis (W35) lead the women’s race from start to finish and after five laps of solo running crossed the finish line in an excellent time of 64.23 placing her in fifth place overall.Anna’s time is the fastest time since Bronwen Cardy’s 63.53 in 2008. Coming home in second place was Lavinia Petrie in 73.59 and third Helen Stanley in 76.14. Notwithstanding the excellent finishing times there were a number of outstandingAge Graded performances on the day with the highest percentage of 99.39 being that of Club Captain Lavinia Petrie. Other Age Graded percentages worthy of mention are:

Ewen Wilson 87.32 Ralph Bennett 81.34 John Graham 85.36 Helen Stanley 80.81 Gary Stewart 85.33 Gerry O’Donnell 78.95 Andrew Edwards 84.18 Peter Cowell 78.49 A special thank you to the following helpers for their support in planning, setting up and conducting the event: John Dean, John Papworth, Andrew Kilpatrick, Lisa and Daniel Ierardo, Ernie Stewart, Alfred Lendvai, John Howes, Maggie Armstrong, Doug Stokes and Les Clarke for his help (once again) with the time keeping. Ray Merida, a long time member of the Victorian Master Athletics, an active runner with both Croy- don Venue and Townsville Roadrunners and a close personal friend, passed away tragically after suffering a massive heart attack whilst running in Townsville on Monday evening 22nd July 2013. Ray’s funeral was held at St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Boronia on 6th August, and a get-together to celebrate his life was held later at Croydon club rooms where his family and friends were able to pay their respects to a wonderful man whose life, sadly, ended too soon. As a final tribute to Ray, all those in attend- ance walked a lap of the Croydon track, an emotional and moving way to say goodbye to a special person. Ray will be remembered by so many of us as a man who lived for his family, his friends and his run- ning, not to mention his love for backing a winner at the local TAB. Running was his passion and his competitiveness was unequalled. He saw every race and training ses- sion as a challenge which, in the end, possibly contributed to his untimely passing. Ray was a truly unique person with a quirky sense of humour and although not eve- rybody understood his humour he could have his friends howling with laughter when he related stories of his own misadventures. He was a highly intelligent man who studied The- ology in his early years, loved reading, listen- ing to music, especially classical and thrived on a challenge either mental or physical. Due to his position as District Return- ing Officer with the Australian Electoral Com- mission during his working life, Ray became an extremely well known and highly respect- ed member of the local community. It was through this work that many of us got to know him, working for The Latrobe Elector- ate mainly during election times. After his retirement some 10 years ago, Ray and Yvette purchased a property in Townsville, where they were able to escape the Melbourne win- ters, spend time with their two daughters and grandchildren and become very much involved with the local community. Ray was in his element, becoming a member of The Townsville Road Runners where he was able to compete at weekends on a regular basis. Ray never ran a marathon and only ran a few half marathons which is why, I believe, he was able to stay so fit and compete so strongly into his advanced years. He touched us all in so many ways with testament to that being the number of friends he made in all walks of his life whether through work, local community, his church, his beloved Croydon Venue or the Townsville Roadrunners. Ray leaves behind his wife Yvette, who is also a member of the Croydon venue, three children, An- nette, Fiona and Mark, their partners and four grandchildren. We will all sadly miss his friendship, his words of advice, his kindness and compassion, his humour and his love of life.

Rest in Peace dear friend.

Ian U’Ren 20 RETROSPECTIVE Xlll World Veterans Athletics Championships Eugene, Oregon. U.S.A. July 27 – August 6, 1989

The 1987 World Veterans Athletics Championships, in Mel- bourne, were considered as the best held up until that time. Ray Callaghan and his team put on an extremely well organised competition and the people of Melbourne ensured it was a friendly occasion. The next Championships, held in the athletics friendly City of Eugene, Oregon borrowed heavily on the work done by Melbourne and then put on what was regarded as the best “Games”of all. As usual the “Aussies”attended in droves, a massive 371 of them entered, enticed by the reputation of the twin Cities, Eugene and Springfield, as the track capital of America. The number of Australians was second only to the hosts. Several Australians set World Records in winning Other Highlights their events - • In the M50 200m, Reg Austin claimed his 8th Ann Cooper W60 400m 69.00 consequtive gold in his 8th World Championship Alan Bradford M50 800m 2:00.40 by running a wind aided 22.88 !!!! Look at the crowds ! The locals just love athletics in Eugene. It was estimated that the crowd was up to 10000 at 21

RETROSPECTIVE

Memories from Heather Carr - I travelled with Olivia, my eldest daughter who was 12, almost 13. I was 39, and competing in the W35 division. We stayed in University Accommodation, which was in very close proxim- ity to the Hayward Field track at the University of Oregon. The rooms were student accommodation, 2 beds, sparse, but adequate. Our room overlooked the track, wonderful view. The cafeteria was amazing - huge array and variety of food, suitable for all cultures and religions from around the world. A real eye opener. Many Australians, majority Victorians, competing in racewalking, Penny Hall, (accompanied by hurdler husband Mike), Lee Osborne (Pownall), Win May, Judy Farrell, Glennis McPherson, Gwen Vines, Kathy Woodward, Joan Purcell, Maureen Seedsman, Marj Colthup, Corrie DeGroot, Jean O’Neill, Betty New- man, Dorothy Jack and Stella Murnane. Sit down dinner in a very large agricultural pavilion. Most enjoyable, served by waiters. Fantastic 3 course meal. Not the usual ‘free for all’. Track excellent. easy to get to. 10km road walk around University grounds, a stone’s throw away from accommodation. I remember one participant who Bronwen Cardy ‘walked’ the entire 10km on crutches! (Don’t think she got through)! I was very excited as I won gold in both the 5km track walk in 25:28 and the 10km road walk in 50:51. As I was only a week off turning 40, I was really, really thrilled. (Turned 40 on way home to Australia)

Helen Searle with her WR Hammer Throw of 39.64m at Eugene

Memories from Stephen Barker - I would rate these the best Championships I have been to. The 10k Road Race was held through the streets of the town with massive fields and crowds, as was the Marathon on the last day. The opening and closing ceremonies were really big events, again with huge crowds. Stephen and Heather are both going to Brazil to compete 22

RETROSPECTIVE

Memories from Peter Le Get If you asked most Masters athletes who have been to a few World Games which was the best I suspect most would say Eugene, Oregon in 1989. This was basically due to the enthusiasm of the locals for every- thing to do with Track & Field, for the organisation which went into making it successful, for the stand- ard of the venues and for the hospitality of local people and their regular attendance on all days. Eugene is a university town, home to the University of Oregon, and had established itself over a long period as the Track & Field capital of the US. Eugene is a town, not a city and it was possible to travel around easily and get to know the locals, and their hospitality program was first-class.There were 4,925 participants entered from about 57 countries, including 371 from Australia. Home country USA fielded 2,288 athletes ! Quote from the Results Booklet for Friday July 28 : "Eugene-Springfield track fans welcomed the World Veterans (not called Masters then) Championships athletes Friday in the fashion that made Hayward Field famous - a raucous how-do-you-do that appeared to flabbergast many of the several thousand competitors. Spectators filled the University of Oregon stadium - which can hold 14,000 people - to about three-quarters capacity. They kept up an unbroken stream of applause for more than 10 minutes as the athletes marched into the stadium grouped by age...." The Results Booklet cover gives graphic evidence of this, which I can confirm. Quote from Friday August 4 : "Derek Turnbull (NZ)....and John Gilmour (Aus).... have put on remarkable shows of endurance in their age groups and Shirley Brasher (Aus)...and Marion Irvine (US)...have emerged as their counterparts on the women's side. For Brasher 62, Friday's victory in the 5,000 was her fourth in five races and it came in world-record time, 21.51". John Gilmour from Perth (men 70) ran 18.46 for 5,000 and 38.49 for 10,000 if you please ! There were many other outstanding Australian performances.

Introducing liz feldman an article by Heather Carr

Converting from long distance running to racewalking is one decision Liz Feldman should be inordi- nately proud of. Her success on the international stage as a result of this choice has been achieved through dedication, commitment, sheer hard work, as well as a natural ability for this athletic activity. Born in Kerang in 1948, Liz’s schooling during the sixties was as a boarder at Sacred Heart College, Ballarat. At Sacred Heart she became Involved in team games; tennis, basketball and marching! Married in 1969, and taking up residence in Gladysdale, Liz and husband Peter led a basic existence on a 2 acre block. Here she became actively involved in the community, playing squash, tennis, badminton and bounce ball (similar to playing volley ball on a trampoline). Another activity was astride her bicycle, accompanying husband Peter along country roads on his quest to partake in marathons, with Liz constantly wondering ‘are we there yet?’, as Peter pounded out the kilometres, Peter was already ‘addicted’ to running, and it wasn’t very long, in 1980, and having moved to Gruyere with more acreage that Liz succumbed to the magnetism of running, gradually increasing the distances she covered. It was during this time that she was began toying with the idea “would I be capable of managing ‘the holy grail of running, the marathon?” At this time, Liz was introduced to Veteran Athletics by “a lovely couple, Bob and Belle Moss”, who were members of the Croydon venue and invited Liz to participate. In 1982, Liz and Peter welcomed their daughter, Bec. Their baby spent a considerable amount of time in the Royal Children’s Hospital, and it was during this time that Liz found “running to be my saviour. I could recharge my batteries with a good run”. Playgroup became an integral part of Liz and Bec’s life, and it was through playgroup that Liz met Jenny Scott, wife of the Hawthorn footballer Don Scott. Jenny, was a “fellow female runner, just as obsessed as me.” Liz and Jenny joined forces to combine babysitting and training together. Liz comments “I don’t think that Don was too impressed when we told him that he would have to babysit while we went for a quick run!” Liz’s interest in running evolved into the intrigue of actually tacking this endurance distance. Liz met with resistance when she told Peter that this was her desire, however with Liz’s perseverance and dedication she continued to pursue her goal of running the 42.195km (26 miles 385 yards) distance of the mara- thon. In their first marathon, Liz and Jenny crossed the finish line together, holding hands in the time of 4 hours, 20 minutes. A fine effort for inaugural competitors and the result also positive- ly answered the question of whether she was capable of running a marathon. Since that initial marathon, Liz has completed 35 mara- thons with a best time of 3 hours 20 minutes. Ultra marathons have also been attempted and achieved; highlights including the 6 foot track ultra marathon, running from Mansfield to Mt.Buller with Peter and Bec riding a tandem bike alongside and the Frankston to Portsea run. A solid, firm friendship developed with Ron Boyne, a training partner and good friend. They spent many hours pre- paring together and solving world problems as the kilometres slipped by. The training areas were on country roads, through the bush and trail running to towers used for fire spotting. Another special, devoted training partner, always willing to train come rain, hail or shine was Liz’s beautiful, faithful dog Gemma Lou. Her constant companion only asking for a pat and a hug. Misfortune struck in 2000, with Liz requiring knee surgery. Surgery was essential, and the Specialist’s orders were to swim, ride or walk. Thus began Liz’s entry into racewalking. The founding of a completely new challenge for Liz. With the support of Ken Walters, a renowned racewalk competitor and prominent coach, (coach of the most recently highly successful athlete Rhydian Cowley), gave Liz the realistic expec- tation that “it will take a couple of years to get the technique right, but I guess you will want to compete in 6 months!” Ken was completely accurate in his estimation of Liz’s desire to meet the challenge, and to her credit, fortunately did listen and considered his perceptive and thoughtful advice. Whilst Liz was adapting and adjusting to this totally different way of moving, her daughter Bec was 25

Introducing Liz feldman successful in competing in wheelchair racing. Bec proved, like her mother, to have the talent and commit- ment to compete at an elite level. Together they trained, Liz on her bike and Bec in her wheelchair, train- ing at Croydon venue on a Tuesday night. This proved to be integral in Bec’s success in the 2000 Paralympics; Bec winning medals of all three colours, gold, silver and bronze. What an incredibly amazing achievement! Once Liz mastered the ‘art’ of racewalking, the competitive side kicked in. Liz has competed in numerous Victorian, Australian and ultimately World Masters Athletic Championships. With her history of training over long distances, Liz continued in this vein and has become the virtuoso of the endurance event, that being the 20 km racewalk. A testament to this ability are the two 50km World Records that Liz created and of which she is incredibly proud. Liz’s first international competition began in Riccione, Italy in 2007, and was awarded with a W50 20km Gold Team Medal alongside Lyn Ventris and Heather Carr. The second foray into international competition was in 2009 in Lahti, Finland. Liz was not the red hot favourite going into this event, but somehow Liz, determined to beat the odds, walked the walk(s) of her life, bringing home 3 personal gold medals, and a team gold medal; a total of 4 medals.

1st W60 5km Race Walk in 30:28.77 1st W60 10km Race Walk in 1:02.55 1st W60 20km Race Walk in 2:12.10 1st W50 20km Race Walk Team, again with Lyn and Heather Sacramento, 2011, was the next international meet, again bringing success for Liz, who travelled back to Australia with 2 personal silver medals, one bronze, a team gold and a team silver, a total of 5 medals.

2nd W60 5km Race Walk in 31:02.31 3rd W60 10km Race Walk in 1:02.11 2nd W60 20km Race Walk in 2:10.35 2nd W60 10km Team Race with Heather and Joan Purcell 1st W60 20km Team, with Heather and Joan Purcell “The Worlds are such an exciting thing to be part of. You meet up with other Aussie athletes from all round Australia, some you know from previous trips and others become new friends. We all look out for each other and go along to support where possible. Word soon gets around about where is the best place to eat, how the transport system works, where the bargains are to be had for the shoppers amongst us. Many of us are now looking forward to going to Porto Alegre, Brazil to fly the Aussie flag and we will all come home richer for the experience”. Liz has been cross training for three years, training including cycle class, cross fit, boxing, mobility, (the use of foam rollers to roll out tight muscles), road cycling, and of course racewalking on the track and on the road, both short and long distances. Liz describes her cross training enthusiastically “It’s a way of life for me. Gym is a great way to make training buddies”. Of course, all the hard work places stress and strain on the body, and Liz has received her fair share of injuries, including hamstring tears and tight piriformis muscles. Liz ‘manages’ these problem areas with acupuncture, regular massage, mobility classes and discovering the techniques of applying pressure to “trig- ger release points throughout the body”; utilizing “this technique at any time, even with a simple tennis ball”. Liz enjoys gardening at her home in Bayswater, playing the guitar and ukulele, and regularly fre- quents a live music gig - ‘Mountain Pickers’, this embodies blue grass music and is a relaxing and pleasurable pastime. Other interests include a love and devotion to a variety of animals and a devotion to donkeys! This interest began in 1969 to protect feral donkeys, trapped around waterholes in Northern States then be- ing trucked down to the Southern States to be sold for pet meat. “The Australian Donkey Breed Society” was founded, Liz became an avid member, and gave a home to three feral donkeys, taking them to country shows demonstrating that donkeys are clever and intelligent animals when given hospitable environments. Occupations past and present have been many and varied! A bank clerk, home help, gym worker, apple and pear picker and packer, real estate, stock and station agency, medical receptionist, integration aide, disability worker, and now, a house cleaner. Liz leaves us with this quote “The race is not only to the swift but to those who keep on going” - this certainly epitomizes Liz’s attitude to life and her athletic career. We wish Liz continuing success during the XX World Masters Athletic Championships, Porto Alegre, Brazil, South America during October 2013. 26
