The meeting of the Hunterdon County Board for Vocational Education was called to order at 7:01 p.m. by Board President – Elizabeth Martin. Ms. Martin stated that this meeting was being held in accordance with the provisions of the Open Public Meetings Act. Adequate notice was given by prominently posting the meeting notice on the first floor of the County Administration Building, 71 Main Street, Flemington, New Jersey, a public place reserved for such announcements. The notice was sent to the Hunterdon County Democrat and by filing with the Hunterdon County Clerk a schedule of the time, date and place of the holdings of this meeting. Present were board members: Janice Kovach, Laurence Molloy, Michael Yates, Elizabeth Martin. Also present were Dr. Kimberly Metz – Superintendent, Susan Joyce – Business Administrator and Howard Vex, Board Attorney. Absent was Jeff Scott. Public Present: Polytech principal – Dan Kerr; Freeholder Liaison Ron Sworen. Public Comment: none Consent Agenda It was moved by Ms. Kovach, second by Mr. Yates to approve listed consent agenda items. 1. Approved the minutes of the Board of Education meeting of June 18, 2012. 2 Approved the minutes of the Executive Board of Education meeting of June 18, 2012. 3. Approved Transfers in the amount of $31,407.00 – Fund 10 and $8,737.22 – Fund 50.. 4. Approved the Reports of the Treasurer and Secretary for May 2012. 5. Approved the payment of all claims as listed in the amount of $181,114.02 dated July 16, 2012. Guidance Counselor Liaisons: Brian Strauss, Voorhees High School; Vicki Kellum, North Hunterdon High School; Jon DeSimone, South Hunterdon High School; Kristina Sternbenc, Delaware Valley High School; for a maximum of 50 hours each at the rate of $35 per hour, as needed, from July 17, 2012 to June 30, 2013 pending approval of the 2012-13 Perkins Funds. Min. July 16, 2012 Page 1 of 7 Teresa De Sapio Diaz to develop the Continuing Education Fall 2012 Course Brochure using the new software ‘InDesign’ for a maximum of 40 hours at $25.00 per hour. Teresa De Sapio Diaz to assist in developing a brochure in Spanish for the Community Outreach Services program for a maximum of 10 hours at the rate of $25.00 per hour. Paid by WIA grant funds. Bill Kinslow for curriculum development at the rate of $35 per hour, for a maximum of 40 hours July 17, 2012 - September 30, 2012. Paid by YTTW grant funds. EXCITE Program instructor John Sappington at the rate of $1250 for the 5 day week July 16 to 20, 2012 to lead the APPRENTICE (Construction) program. Substitute Teachers for the 2012-13 school year at the rate of $100 per day, no benefits, as needed. Approve Grant Application/Accept Grant Funds/ESC Shared Service Rates/Revised School Calendar/Donation. It was moved by Ms. Kovach, second by Mr. Yates to approve grant application, accept grant funds, approve ESC Shared Service Rates/approve revised school calendar and accept listed donation of paint. Additions to the motion. Approve the submission of a three year grant application to the United Way of Hunterdon County in the amount of $125,000. Approve the submission of an additional application to the Workforce Investment and Youth Funding Grant for the maximum of $175,000. It was moved by Ms. Kovach, second by Mr. Yates to approve the amended action item to include additions to the motion. Approved the submission of 2012-13 Perkins grant application in the amount of $47,860 for the Perkins Secondary Grant and $99,502 for the Post-Secondary Grant. Grant funds will be used Min. July 16, 2012 Page 3 of 7 towards curriculum, online course work, professional development, equipment, and other new CTE initiatives. Accepted Apprentice Coordinator Grant funds from the NJDOL in the amount of $10,000 for the 2012-13 school year. Grant activities will take place from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013 Funds will support the salaries of the Apprenticeship Coordinator, Apprenticeship Assistant, travel reimbursement, promotional items and supplies to successfully carry out the grant activities. Accepted Workforce Investment and Youth Funding Grant funds in the amount of $81,399 from July 15, 2012 to June 30, 2013. Grant funds will be used to implement a Community Outreach Services Program. The program is designed to identify at-risk youth that meet the One Stop Youth Employment Services program for job readiness and life skills, educational training and/or paid internships. Approved ESC 2012-13 Shared Service Rates. Approve school services member rates provided by Educational Service Commission as needed for during the 2012-13 school year. Personnel are all properly certified to work in public education. Service member rates found in attachments. Approved Revised 2012-2013 School Calendar. The school calendar has been modified to add a half staff professional development day on November 21. This will make November 21 a full day for all staff members, half day for students. Calendar attached. Accepted a donation of $1800 of auto paint and spray paint from Tractor Supply. Additions to the motion. Approved the submission of a grant application to the United Way in the amount of $125,000.
