Suède Le Centre De Gravité De L'espace Scandinave
Suède Le centre de gravité de l'espace scandinave On s’est accoutumé, depuis le milieu du siècle dernier, à voir en la Suède un pays pacifique et un peu terne, une sorte de « Suisse du nord », vouée à professer depuis la tour d’ivoire de sa neutralité de tranquilles convictions sociales-démocrates. Bien loin d’être infâmante, cette image contient évidemment une part de vérité : appuyée sur une solide identité protestante, berceau de l’une des plus anciennes monarchies parlementaires au monde, préservée depuis 1815 des conflits qui ont affecté ses voisins, la Suède constitue incontestablement un des plus solides pivots de la démocratie et de la stabilité en Europe. Sans même parler de ce « modèle suédois », récemment mis à mal par les contrecoups de la mondialisation mais qui n’a peut-être pas dit son dernier mot… Cette apparence paisible ne doit pas faire oublier que la Suède a aussi et surtout été une grande et énergique puissance continentale, dont l’ambition a longtemps été d’unifier la Scandinavie, de contrôler les côtes de la mer Baltique et de jouer un rôle significatif dans les affaires de l’Allemagne et de la Russie. De ces rêves de grandeur et des quelques souverains exceptionnels qui les ont portés, il ne subsiste malheureusement pas grand-chose dans notre mémoire collective. En leurs temps, l’annonce de la mort de Gustave-Adolphe à la bataille de Lützen ou celle de Charles XII devant Fredriksten ont pourtant sonné comme autant de coups de tonnerre dans le ciel des capitales du vieux continent. -

SWEDEN BY VICTOR NILSSON HISTORY OF SWEDEN CHAPTER I Sweden in Prehistoric and Early Historic Times—Archæological Finds and Classical Testimony The Swedes, although the oldest and most unmixed race in Europe, realized very late the necessity of writing chronicles or reviews of historic events. Thus the names of heroes and kings of the remotest past are helplessly forgotten, and lost also the history of its earliest religion and institutions. But Mother Earth has carefully preserved most of what has been deposited in her bosom, and has repaid diligent research with trustworthy and irrefutable accounts of the age and various degrees of civilization of the race which inhabited Sweden in prehistoric times. Thus it has been proved that Sweden, like most other countries, has had a Stone Age, a Bronze Age, and an Iron Age. But there is absolutely no evidence to prove the now antiquated theories of various immigrations into Sweden by different races on different stages of civilization. On the contrary, the graves from the remotest times, through all successive periods, prove by the form of the skulls of those buried in them that Sweden has, through all ages, been inhabited by the same dolichocephalic, or long-headed, race which constitutes the overwhelming majority of her people to-day. Sweden, physically considered, is not of as high antiquity as some countries of Europe. Yet it has been inhabited during the last four thousand years, at least. In the quaternary period the Scandinavian peninsula was a centre of a glacial movement which spread its disastrous influences over Western Russia, Northern Germany and Holland. -

At one time very many centuries ago, we cannot say just when, for this was in the days of the early legends, there reigned over Upsala in Sweden a king named Erik. He had no son and only one daughter, but this girl was worth a dozen sons and daughters of some kings. Torborg she was named, and there were few women so wise and beautiful and few men so strong and valiant. She cared nothing for women's work, but was the equal of any man of the court in riding, fighting with sword and shield, and other athletic sports. This troubled King Erik very much, for he thought that the princess should sit in her maiden chamber like other kings' daughters; but she told him that when she came to succeed him on the throne she would need to know how to defend her kingdom, and now was the time for her to learn. That she might become the better fitted to rule, she asked him to give her some province to govern, and this he did, making her queen of a third of his kingdom, and giving her an army of stout and bold warriors. Her court was held at Ulleraker in Upland, and here she would not let any one treat her as a woman, dressing always in men's clothing and bidding her men to call her King Torborg. To fail in this would be at risk of their heads. -

For simplicity the information has been presented in four different books. Book 1 – Mythical to Viking Era (? – 1250) Book 2 – Folkunga Dynasty (1250 – 1523) Book 3 – Vasa Dynasty (1523 – 1751) Book 4 – Recent Royalty (1751 – Present) This Book 2 begins with the Regent Birger jarl, who married the daughter of King Erik X, my 22nd great grandfather, listed in Book 1. Birger jarl’s grandfather, Bengt Folkesson Folkunga, is my 23rd great grandfather. Unlike Book 1 the persons here do not follow just one lineage, but come from three different lineages. King Karl VIII has no direct ancestors here, he is the 5th great grandson of King Erik X in Book 1. Our direct lineage does not follow these persons so for this reason they are cousins, except King Karl VIII. THE COINS OF SWEDEN To Queen Christina By David Ruckser Sweden, officially the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Nordic country on the Scandinavian Peninsula in Northern Europe. It has borders with Norway (west and north) and Finland (northeast). It has been a member of the European Union since January 1, 1995. Its capital city is Stockholm. At 449,964 km² (173,720 square miles), Sweden is the third largest country by area in Western Europe and fifth in all of Europe. Sweden has a low population density of 20 people per square kilometre, except in its metropolitan areas; 84% of the popula- tion lives in urban areas, which comprise only 1.3% of the country's total land area so that's about 1,300 people per square kilometre (3,400 per square mile) in urban areas. The inhabitants of Sweden enjoy a high standard of living, and the country is generally perceived as modern and liberal, with an organisational and corporate cul- ture that is non-hierarchical and collectivist compared to its Anglo-Saxon counter- parts.[3] Nature conservation, environmental protection and energy efficiency are generally prioritized in policy making and embraced by the general public in Sweden. Sweden has long been a major exporter of iron, copper and timber. Improved trans- portation and communication has allowed for the large scale utilization of remote nat- ural assets, most notably timber and iron ore. In the 1890s, universal schooling and industrialization enabled the country to devel- op a successful manufacturing industry and by the twentieth century, Sweden emerged as a welfare state, consistently achieving high positions among the top-ranking countries in the UN Human Development Index (HDI). -

In order to do this, the foundation of the peace, its principles, will be abstracted from the ad hoc solutions to regional conflicts between Nordic countries. These solutions ultimately transformed a region of conflict or negative peace, to a zone of positive peace. The thesis will answer the following questions: 1) How have the solutions that underlie the Nordic Peace transcended causes for conflict? And 2) are there universal potentials in the Nordic solutions? This will be elucidated through an in depth analysis of three historical cases that would shape and transform the region after 1814, the year marking the onset of the Nordic Peace and its subsequent paradigm shift. -

SCANDINAVIAN DESCENDANTS OF CHARLEMAGNE -253- SCANDINAVIAN MEDIEVAL DESCENDANTS OF CHARLEMAGNE: A DETAILED GENEALOGY OF THE ISSUE OF AGNES HAAKONSDOTTIR, OF THE SO-CALLED FAIRHAIR DYNASTY by M Sjöström, MSc1 ABSTRACT Early genealogical connections that link Scandinavian families to Charlemagne are discussed, as are the societal circumstances affecting genealogy, and the practically simultaneous spread of feudal and chivalric forms. Difficulties in Scandinavian medieval genealogies are outlined. Several examples are given of weaknesses which have, for example, influenced Europäische Stammtafeln. A detailed descendants’ table from Agnes, lady of Borgarsyssel, down to the 16th century is given, listing approximately 220 Charlemagne descendants identified from secondary literature. Agnes was the natural daughter of king Haakon V of Norway (reigned 1299- 1319). Her progeny is represented in the nobility of all the Scandinavian countries, but predominantly in Sweden. Foundations (2007) 2 (4): 253-276 © Copyright FMG and the author Introduction In the late Middle Ages and the beginning of the modern era, Charlemagne blood was one of the highest insignia of nobility, sealing something like membership of the chivalric family of the world. Although the demand was highest in western Europe such a heritage was also esteemed in Scandinavian countries. Even today a number of private web pages aim specifically to demonstrate Scandinavian descents from Charlemagne. Charlemagne descent serves as a relatively good indicator of the adoption in Scandinavia of the characteristics of western European civilization. The spread of that descent can be measured geographically, temporally and through social class. Apparently because Norway at the time was essentially part of other kingdoms, Norwegian genealogies in the late medieval and early modern period have been relatively obscure in the wider European context. -
Finland/Sweden Historical Wars
GRANHOLM GENEALOGY Finland/Sweden Historical Wars 1 INTRODUCTION This book describes the historical times of the wars and battles when Finland was still a part of Sweden. It precedes the history of when Finland became independent, which is in the book “Finland’s Independence, the Birth” . I have not included all battles but enough to give a picture of how we have almost constantly been at war. It is also about our relatives at those times. In most cases I mention a person only once, although that person has been part of many other battles. Many of the persons are the Swedish and Finnish rulers and officers when Sweden was a major European power. The following words from the “Tales of Ensign Stål” by Runeberg illustrate the accomplishments of these heroes in the poem set to music in the “March of the Björneborgers”. The poem mentions just four battlefields. In this book I have listed many more from the First Crusade almost 900 years ago to the brief fight in 1854 at Halkokari in my hometown Gamlakarleby in Finland. “Sons of fathers brave who bled On Poland’s sand on Narva’s moor, At Leipzig, Lützen, never stinting.
