Banco De Gaia Last Train to Lhasa th 20 Anniversary EP 20 years ago Toby Marks AKA Banco De Gaia released one of the classic albums of modern electronica - Last Train to Lhasa - whose groove inflected, multicultural soundscapes helped to form the blueprint for much of today's global electronica. To mark the anniversary of its release, Disco Gecko Recordings have created a limited edition, physical only (no downloads or streams) 4 disc box set, featuring previously unheard alternative and extended ambient mixes as well as a handful of fresh remixes by like-minded artists. To kick-start the celebrations, Banco De Gaia asked Ukraine’s AstroPilot and Dublin’s Silinder to add some 21st Century flavour to the title track, which is probably still his best known composition – ‘You know, the one with the train?’ Dmitry Redko, the producer behind Astropilot, has shared a stage with Banco De Gaia at events on many occasions over the last 10 years and consistently impressed him with his approach and style. His remix is no less impeccable, as he harnesses Lhasa’s ambient elements to build a low intensity trance groover. Silinder is Dublin native Gavin Mulhall, who came to the attention of Disco Gecko after posting an unofficial remix of Heliopolis on SoundCloud. The mix was so well thought out, the label asked to use it as a free download to mark last year's Maya 20th anniversary re-release. His progressive house rub is primed to set dance floors alight, with added weight at the bottom end and a slight increase in tempo. The new EP was originally programmed to include an extended, twelve minute ambient mix as well, but iTunes’ arcane style rules prevented that from happening, so this mix will now only be available from the Banco Bandcamp page. th Last Train to Lhasa EP is released (digital only) via Disco Gecko Recordings on March 30 Tracklist: Last Train to Lhasa (Original version), Last Train to Lhasa (AstroPilot Remix), Last Train to Lhasa (Silinder Remix). Mixing electronic and acoustic instruments and voices his work defies genre classification. He has worked with a variety of musicians ranging from legendary saxophonist Dick Parry (Pink Floyd) to Anglo-Egyptian singer Natacha Atlas and cutting edge dance producers such as Jack Dangers and Fluke. Banco De Gaia cut his teeth on the early 90s Ambient Dub compilations (a precursor of the “chill out” marketing phenomenon). In 1994 he released his first studio album Maya on Planet Dog records, which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize on its release. It was followed in 1995 by the critically acclaimed Last Train To Lhasa . Both albums reached No1 in the UK independent charts and featured in the national album chart top 40. In the following decade Banco De Gaia released Live At Glastonbury, Big Men Cry, The Magical Sounds Of Banco De Gaia, Igizeh , You Are Here and Farewell Ferengistan . In 2007 Toby Marks took on the epic task of recreating a complete cover version of the classic Pink Floyd track Echoes in his own inimitable style. The result was both recorded and performed live as a full 23-minute rendition including live guitar, video and contemporary electronic trickery. This led to further cover version explorations which were released, along with reworkings of early Banco classics and over an hour of live recordings from across the years, as Memories Dreams Reflections . 1n April 2013, he released his first new studio album in 7 years, Apollo . Featuring 9 entirely new compositions, the album spans the electronic world, from ambient to tribal dance, dub to techno. Remixes of the album tracks came out throughout the year on various singles, with the highlights, including remixes by System 7, Eat Static and Kaya Project featured on the Ollopa collection. AstroPilot AstroPilot is the ambient electronic / progressive music project of Ukrainian producer Dmitriy Redko, who has been working with sound since the millennium. Since then, he has released 10 albums and 4 singles as well as being featured on more than 30 compilations, and has become one of the leading and most widely-travelled artists from the Russian and Ukrainian psychedelic scene, playing at festivals all over the world. AstroPilot’s productions range from pure deep space ambient to a more atmospheric, uptempo style. In 2010, his music was licensed for the iPhone/iPad/iPod 'Solar Walk' and 'Star Walk' apps. In 2012, he moved to Kiev and performed a series of successful audio-visual shows with ambient music and fulldome technologies. In 2013-2014, he produced an original soundtrack for Event Horizon, a full-dome real-time environment featuring objects from space. He also produces more dance-floor oriented music under the alias Manifestor, with consistent support from electronic legend John ‘00’ Fleming. Silinder Hailing from Dublin in the Rep. of Ireland, Gavin Mulhall has been producing electronic music as Silinder for over 14 years now. 'Deep, dark & hypnotic with a melodic theme' - that's how Mulhall describes his productions. Growing up with his parents and older brother's vast taste in music, ranging from Seventies Irish folk and disco to Eighties Italo and synth pop, Mulhall has ended up with an incredibly broad array of musical influences, all ever-present in his productions to this day. With releases on respected labels from around the world, such as Sudbeat, Proton Music, Jackpot Records and Vapour Recordings, to name a few, and gaining massive support week in, week out, from some of the biggest and most in-demand DJs from around the world (Sasha, Hernan Cattaneo, Guy J, Nick Warren, James Zabiela, among others), Silinder has become a highly regarded name in the electronic music scene.
