1 BACKGROUND OF BRI AND BRITA The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) was introduced in 2013 aiming to builds a trade and infrastructure network connecting Asia with Europe and Africa along the ancient trade routes, and has achieved outstanding progress and has been creating positive impact on the sector of infrastructure development and economic growth. On 12 May 2017, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on bilateral cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative was signed by the Foreign Secretary of Nepal Shanker Das Bairagi and Chinese Ambassador Yu Hong at a ceremony held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which aimed at enhancing mutually beneficial cooperation between China and various countries and regions around the world on promoting connectivity of facilities, trade connectivity, financial integration and connectivity, and assist Nepal attaining economic prosperity. Belt and Road International Transport Alliance (BRITA) is an international organization working for Belt and Road related activities around the world. The establishment of BRITA was proposed jointly by 33 countries/organizations on 4 June 2017 in Beijing. The purpose of the BRITA is: 1. To establish a cooperative platform to support, encourage and promote the regular policy and technical exchange among the transport industry in the countries and regions along the Belt and Road routes; 2. To promote multilateral development and harmonization in the field of transport technologies, standards, safety, equipment, skills and service; 3. To ensure awareness and integration of BRITA activities with global initiatives e.g. the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs); 4. To further develop comprehensive cooperation and share scientific and technological achievements among BRITA members so as to optimise the production capacity and realise the win-win development; and 5. To educate and train technical personnel to meet project demand.

Belt and Road International Transport Alliance The conference is primarily to encourage and promote policy dialogues, foster connectivity and support growth prospects through infrastructure and economic development, and achieve the following objectives:  To understand Nepal’s current status in the global competitiveness.  To highlight contribution of BRI on Nepal’s economic prosperity.  To analyse opportunities and challenges of BRI.  To promote foreign investment in Transport and Infrastructure Development.  To promote “Visit Nepal 2020” and Drive Tourism.  To promote Safer and Sustainable mobility and accessibility.  To facilitate professional collaboration, people to people connectivity,  To strengthen relationship among the BRITA members.

3 EXPECTATION OF AUDIENCE It is estimated there are about 150 participants attending the conference from the following sides:  Parliamentarians and policy makers,  Federal State and Local governments officials and representatives of Nepal,  State government officials from different nations.,  BRITA members,  National and international experts and academia on trade, transport and road safety,  Private , professional and business institutions,  National and international media
