WELCOME REMARKS

Distinguished Guests, Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the Transport Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, I’d like to express my warmest welcome and heartfelt thanks for your participation in the 4th Forum of 21st Maritime Silk Road and the 7th Shenzhen World Port Chain Strategy Forum!

Shenzhen is a young and dynamic city and is prosperous by the port. In more than 3 decades, booming as the important platform with modern service and advanced manufacturing industry, Shenzhen Port has developed into a container hub port in South China and has become the most significant trade gateway in Pan-River Delta.

In 2017, Shenzhen Port has completed a container throughput of 25.21 million TEU, ranking as the third largest container port in the world for five consecutive years. To actively implement the national initiative of “Belt & Road”, Shenzhen Port is now committing to be a core engine for the construction of -Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, enhancing the trade and economy cooperation among global ports, expanding sister-port network and strengthening the communication among each other. Currently, Shenzhen Port has 245 international container liners, and owning 25 international sister ports, covering Northern Europe, North and South America, Southeast Asia and Oceania etc.

It has been seven years since Shenzhen Port put forward the concept of “Shenzhen Port Chain” and organized Shenzhen World Port Chain Strategy Forum from 2011. The success of the forum not only enhances the communication and understanding among Shenzhen Port and international sister ports, but also broadens our scope of knowledge and widens our horizon via full exploration and exchanges in regard to the current situation, future development, cutting-edge technology of global ports and shipping sector. Recently, disruptive technology applications such as port big data, AI and blockchain bring endless possibilities for port-to-port linkages and cooperation. In the era of big data, the digital transformation of the global port industry and the open sharing of information will be the key to promote the technological innovation and application of the global port industry. In this forum, we will have an in-depth exploration of topics like disruptive technology applications such as port big data, AI and blockchain etc. I hope everyone can express your opinion freely and get rich results.

As the Deputy Director-General of Transport Commission of Shenzhen Municipality, I’d like to take this opportunity to welcome our domestic and overseas guests coming to Shenzhen in this golden October. I hope that in the forum, you will not only get rich achievements, but also enjoy the young and dynamic city. Welcome to Shenzhen. Welcome to our forum.
