"» Area.-The Kolhapur territory has an area ~f 3,217·1 square miles,~~ which 2,124·6 belong to Kolhapor proper and the rest to the feudatory j!gblrs lying in the state. / Survey.-The survey £ettlement was first intro~uced into KolMpur territory' about the year 1867. The revised settlement· was commenced in 1895, and has Leen extended to almost the whole principality excepting the Baroda Jaghlr. 'fhere are also some 41 villages scattered over various talukas of the state, which have not been yet subjected to revenue survey at all, as their respective holdere do not consent to the measure. The chief imports are cotton, grain, hemp, oil, salt, sl-'i<.:e~ and rt-fined and unretined sugar. A Epinning mill has recently been erecteJ at Kolhapur. 'l'he number of srindles workiug in 1910-11 was ll,!3bS anJ the daily average number of hands employeJ was 217. There are also four ginning factories and a dy~ing factory at Ichalkaranji.
