2 Forthcoming Titles My Life as a Work of Art The Art World from Start to Finish Ben Eastham and Katya Tylevich

How to cut through the labyrinthine contemporary art world – from the complex and animated process starting in the mind of an artist to the end in a museum, collector’s property, storage space or dump, via workshops, galleries, and art fairs? The best way is to follow the only “witness” to all these developments: the work of art itself. This book follows the “life” of works by eight major contemporary artists, from Martin Creed’s conceptual works and Gregory Crewdson’s photographs (requiring crews and production values similar to that of big budget movies) to Marina Abramović’s performances and Barry McGee’s motorway sound barrier graffiti (touching upon the ambivalent relationship between street art and the art market).

Ben Eastham is the co-founder and editor of The White Review. As an arts journalist he has contributed to the Times Literary Supplement, the New York Times, Elephant, and the Art Newspaper. He has previously worked as a journalist at the BBC and curator at Hannah Barry, London.

Katya Tylevich is Editor-at-Large for Elephant and Contributing Editor for Mark and White Zinfandel. She contributes regularly to Domus, Pin-up, and Frame. She is co-founder of Friend&Colleague, working on curated projects and editions.

4 Forthcoming Titles This is Magritte Patricia Allmer, illustrated by Iker Spozio

René Magritte’s often unreliable accounts of his own life have transformed his public image into a kind of fictional character – the straight-faced, bowler- hatted man – rather than a “real person”. While the events of his childhood played a key role in creating the surrealist, it was his popular-culture borrowings from crime fiction, advertising, and postcards that have made his work instantly recognizable.

Patricia Allmer is Chancellor’s Fellow at the University of Edinburgh. She is curator of the award-winning “Angels of Anarchy: Women Artists and Surrealism” (Manchester Art Gallery, 2009) and author of René Magritte: Beyond Painting (2009).

Iker Spozio is an illustrator, engraver, and painter who lives and works in Spain. Among the international magazines that have featured his work are Le Monde and El País.

Renaissance Art in Venice From Tradition to Individualism Tom Nichols

In the Renaissance period, art and architecture in Venice reached a kind of apotheosis when many of the city’s new buildings, sculptures, and paintings took on distinctive and original qualities. The spread of Renaissance values provided leading artists such as Gentile and Giovanni Bellini, Giorgione, Palladio, Titian, and Tintoretto with a licence for artistic invention. By adopting a chronological approach, and focusing attention on the artists, Tom Nichols presents a vivid and easily navigable study of Venetian Renaissance art.

Tom Nichols is Reader in the History of Art and Head of Subject at the University of Glasgow. He has published widely on Venetian Renaissance art.
