Cinquant’anni di Volontà Indici 1946-1996 a cura di Dario Bernardi e Luciano Lanza Nota introduttiva Durante i decenni di pubblicazione, e con il rotare di redazioni e responsabili, ovviamente le norme di scrittura sono andate mutando. Qui abbiamo preferito seguire alcune regole generali che sistematizzassero le varie modalità così da consentire una ricerca quanto più agevole possibile. Dunque gli Indici riportano, numero per numero, anno per anno (in base alla numerazione progressiva che talvolta travalica l’anno solare), il titolo dell’articolo pubblicato seguito dal nome dell’autore. Ove possibile, il nome e cognome dell’autore è stato sempre esplicitato (anche quando non lo era nell’Indice originario) al fine di attribuire chiaramente la paternità dell’articolo (per gli pseudonimi, si veda la lista non esaustiva a fine Indici). Si è inoltre evitato di utilizzare le sigle per autori con iniziali simili (per esempio: Luigi Fabbri, Luce Fabbri), tranne che in alcune rubriche (anche per questo si veda la lista delle sigle principali a fine Indici). Sempre con l’obiettivo di facilitare la ricerca, i nomi degli autori stranieri sono stati scritti in lingua originale (per esempio: Pëtr Kropotkin e non Pietro Kropotkin o Kropotkine) e sono stati inoltre corretti alcuni errori presenti nel testo originale (per esempio: non Emile Armand, come era comunemente, ma erroneamente, noto in Italia, bensì E. Armand, effettivo pseudonimo di Ernest Juin). Infine le rubriche sono state evidenziate con il maiuscoletto – LETTERE DEI LETTORI; ANTOLOGIA; RECENSIONI;

  • Giovanni Pascoli - Poems
    Classic Poetry Series Giovanni Pascoli - poems - Publication Date: 2012 Publisher: Poemhunter.com - The World's Poetry Archive Giovanni Pascoli(31 December 1855 - 6 April 1912) Giovanni Pascoli was an Italian poet and classical scholar. Life Giovanni Pascoli was born at San Mauro di Romagna (in his honor renamed "San Mauro Pascoli" in 1932), into a well-to-do family. He was the fourth of ten children of Ruggero Pascoli and Caterina Vincenzi Alloccatelli. His father was administrator of an estate of farm land of the Princes Torlonia on which the Pascoli family lived. On the evening of Aug. 10, 1867 as Ruggero Pascoli was returning home from the market at Cesena in a carriage drawn by a black and white mare (una cavalla storna), he was shot and killed by an assassin hiding in a ditch by the road. The mare continued slowly on her way and brought home the body of her slain master. The murderer was never apprehended. Giovanni Pascoli had a tragic childhood, struck by the murder of his father and the early deaths of his mother, sister and two brothers, and the subsequent financial decline of the family. The father's assassination echoes in particular in one of his most popular poems, "La cavallina storna" . His whole first work, Myricae (1891), reflects his unhappy childhood. In 1871 he moved to Rimini with six of his brothers. Here he made friends with Andrea Costa, and began to participate in Socialist demonstrations. This led to another key event in Pascoli's life, his brief imprisonment in Bologna following a protest against the capture of the anarchist Giovanni Passannante.

  • Witness for the Prosecution
    Witness for the Prosecution Colin Ward 1974 The revival of interest in anarchism at the time of the Spanish Revolution in 1936 ledtothe publication of Spain and the World, a fortnightly Freedom Press journal which changed to Revolt! in the months between the end of the war in Spain and the beginning of the Second World War. Then War Commentary was started, its name reverting to the traditional Freedom inAugust 1945. As one of the very few journals which were totally opposed to the war aims of both sides, War Commentary was an obvious candidate for the attentions of the Special Branch, but it was not until the last year of the war that serious persecution began. In November 1944 John Olday, the paper’s cartoonist, was arrested and after a protracted trial was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment for ‘stealing by finding an identity card’. Two months earlier T. W. Brown of Kingston had been jailed for 15 months for distributing ‘seditious’ leaflets. The prosecution at the Old Bailey had drawn the attention of the court to the fact that thepenalty could have been 14 years. On 12 December 1944, officers of the Special Branch raided the Freedom Press office andthe homes of four of the editors and sympathisers. Search warrants had been issued under Defence Regulation 39b, which declared that no person should seduce members of the armed forces from their duty, and Regulation 88a which enabled articles to be seized if they were evidence of the commission of such an offence. At the end of December, Special Branch officers, led byDetec- tive Inspector Whitehead, searched the belongings of soldiers in various parts of the country.

Van Valkenburgh, Letter to Agnes Inglis, 1932 “The difficulty in finding perspective is related to the general American lack of a historical consciousness…Many young white activists still act as though they have nothing to learn from their sisters and brothers who struggled before them.” -George Lakey, Strategy for a Living Revolution, 1971 “From the start, anarchism was an open political philosophy, always transforming itself in theory and practice…Yet when people are introduced to anarchism today, that openness, combined with a cultural propensity to forget the past, can make it seem a recent invention—without an elastic tradition, filled with debates, lessons, and experiments to build on.” -Cindy Milstein, Anarchism and Its Aspirations, 2010 “Librarians have an ‘academic’ sense, and can’t bare to throw anything away! Even things they don’t approve of. They acquire a historic sense. At the time a hand-bill may be very ‘bad’! But the following day it becomes ‘historic.’” -Agnes Inglis, Letter to Highlander Folk School, 1944 “To keep on repeating the same attempts without an intelligent appraisal of all the numerous failures in the past is not to uphold the right to experiment, but to insist upon one’s right to escape the hard facts of social struggle into the world of wishful belief.
