Source: Wikipedia at http://tinyurl.com/nowc5hg. n the morning of December 7, 1941, Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) aircraft set out on one of the most famous operations in military Ohistory: a surprise air attack on the US naval base at Pearl Harbor, Hawai`i. The attack was devised and fashioned by Admiral Yamamoto, whose entire military career seems to have been leading to this very moment. Yamamoto was a naval officer who appreciated and under- stood the strategic and technological advantages of naval aviation. This essay will explore Yamamoto’s military career in the context of Imperial Japan’s aggressive expansion into Asia beginning in the 1890s and abruptly ending with Japan’s formal surrender on September 2, 1945, to the US and its Allies. Early in life, the boy, thanks to at http://tinyurl.com/q2au6z5. missionaries, was exposed to American and Western culture. In 1901, he passed the Impe- rial Naval Academy entrance exams with the objective of becoming a naval officer. Yamamoto genuinely respected the West—an attitude not shared by his academy peers. The IJN was significantly influenced by the British Royal Navy (RN), but for utilitarian reasons: mastery of technology, strategy, and tactics. -

First Wright brothers’ airplane patent, based on their 1902 glider, is filed in America. Aug. 8, 1903. The Langley gasoline engine model airplane is successfully launched from a catapult on a houseboat. Dec. 8, 1903. Second and last trial of the Langley airplane, piloted by Charles M. Manly, is wrecked in launching from a houseboat on the Potomac River in Washington, D.C. Dec. 17, 1903. At Kill Devil Hill near Kitty Hawk, N.C., Orville Wright flies for about 12 seconds over a distance of 120 feet, achieving the world’s first manned, powered, sustained, and controlled flight in a heavier-than-air machine. The Wright brothers made four flights that day. On the last, Wilbur Wright flew for 59 seconds over a distance of 852 feet. (Three days earlier, Wilbur Wright had attempted the first powered flight, managing to cover 105 feet in 3.5 seconds, but he could not sustain or control the flight and crashed.) In reality they impersonated a defence system without substance and an actual siphon of Australia’s military resources towards their own ends while offering only a potentially high-risk strategic alliance that helped bring Australia to the brink of disaster. As just one outcome on 18 January 1942, over two months after the Japanese air attack on the American naval base at Pearl Harbor, less than half a squadron of Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) Wirraway lightly armed training planes alighted from an airstrip at Rabaul on New Britain ostensibly to intercept a Japanese naval air armada of over one hundred modern military aircraft, the outcome of which was a national tragedy. The Australian-made and manned Wirraways were shot from the sky or crash-landed with the loss of most of their crews. -

Erau aşa-zişii “ piloţi de încercare”. Primii “test piloţi” din IAR au fost: căpitanii aviatori Romeo Popescu, cel cu care am făcut eu botezul aerului,Alexandru Papană, Dumitru Pufi Popescu, iar după moartea lui a devenit pilot şef de încercări inginerul pilot Dudu Alexandru Frim, unul dintre cei mai buni prieteni pe care i-am avut . Dudu Frim continuă zborurile de încercare şi punere la punct ale avioanelor IAR-80, IAR-81, după care execută zborurile în premieră absolută pentru avioanele IAR 47 şi a întreaga serie de bombardiere Savoia Marchetti. Istoric vorbind, evoluţia avionului IAR-80 este legată de numele lui Dumitru Pufi Popescu şi Alexandru Dudu Frim. Era o personalitate foarte complxă şi pentru a-l înţelege am să vă povestesc o aventură comună. Nu decisivă, nu foarte importantă dar definitorie. Datorită fur- tunii cei de la o cabană de ski au rămas izolaţi. Cum se putea rezolva problema ? Aeronautic ! Cu ajutorul unui bombardier ! Mecanicii de la hagar au demontat puntea de trecere dintre lansatoarele de bombe ale unui bombardier Savoia Marchetti, după care, prin trapele larg deschise, baloturile de paie au fost băgate în avion, al cărui fuzelaj s-a umplut până la coadă. -

Four of these, with three located in Bucharest, produced over 2000 aircraft, maily for the military use as Romania entered the Second World War. The activity of these factories was undertaken in times when nobody thought about formulating the principles of quality management and the research of the first scientists in quality, Deming, Shewhart and Juran had not yet been accepted or published. The work aims to present the inter-war Romanian aeronautical industry developments regarding the quality management.
