Taxonomic Study of the Japanese Dacrymycetes

Tokumasu3 Key words Abstract The class Dacrymycetes is a rather small group of brown-rot wood-decaying jelly fungi characterised by forked basidia and an orange to yellow gelatinous to cartilaginous fruit body. In Japan, dacrymycetous fungi had Dacrymycetes not been investigated for a long time, justifying a taxonomic re-examination. In the present study we attempted Japanese species an investigation of the dacrymycetous fungal flora of Japan, and recognised 28 taxonomic entities, including five molecular phylogeny new taxa, i.e. Dacrymyces ancyleus, D. aureosporus, D. pinacearum, D. subarcticus and Dacryopinax spheno- new species carpa, and nine new records. Due to the present survey, the total number of dacrymycetous species recorded taxonomy from Japan increased from 28 to 42. Of the newly described species, Dacrymyces ancyleus is characterised by recurved, cylindrical basidiocarps and hyphae with clamp connections. Dacrymyces aureosporus resembles D. chrysospermus, but differs in wall thickness of its marginal hyphae. Dacrymyces pinacearum and D. subarcticus represent new coelomycetous anamorphic species. Dacryopinax sphenocarpa has sharp, spathulate basidiocarps, and hyphae with clamp connections. Descriptions, illustrations and photographs of fruit bodies are presented with some taxonomic notes. Molecular phylogenetic analyses were conducted to verify the species identification, and the remaining problems in Dacrymycetes taxonomy are discussed based on these data. FUNGAL FIELD STUDY, WENTWORTH COMMON, Sydney Olympic Park, 11th May, 2019 Coordinators: Elma & Ray Kearney GPS: S 33° 50.271 E 151° 04.418; Members and visitors in attendance: 16 The weather had been dry and windy while cool temperatures were typically mid‐autumn. Fungi fruiting was well below optimum and was confirmed by this field study. We were gladly joined by enthusiastic members of the Parramatta Hills branch of the Australian Plant Society. Leading the group was Tina Hsu, Ecology Project Officer, Sydney Olympic Park Authority (SOPA). We are grateful to Tina who not only guided us through the different habitats but arranged all‐day free parking passes for attendees. Ray and Elma had a previous meeting with Tina and Jenny O’Meara (Ecology Manager, SOPA) on 15.3.19 at Wentworth Common reserve when conditions of prior rain were much more favourable to the fruiting of fungi. Some species were recorded then by Elma and Ray and are added to the much fewer collections/recordings on the 11.5.19. The following Report and species list are a composite record of both visits. Species recorded were from a range of genera and groups e.g. Amanita, Calocera, Campanella, Claviceps (ergot), Collybia, Coprinopsis, Dacryopinax, Fomes, Ganoderma, Geastrum, Gymnopilus, Hexagonia, Inocybe, Laccaria, Macrolepiota, Marasmius, Mycena, Phallus, Pisolithus, Postia, Schizophyllum, Scleroderma, Stereum (Xylobolus), Trametes and Xerula among others. Rather than just provide a series of specimen photos with names we have decided to emphasize the interdependency of fungi and to raise mycological questions based on keen observations and originality of ideas to try to engender a broader mycological objective than simply a gallery of photos. -

Na osnovi dosedanjega preučevanja gliv lahko ocenimo, da je pestrost gliv Mariborskega otoka velika. Projekt je bil zaključen leta 2017. Namen projekta je bil spoznavati pestrost gliv Mariborskega otoka, ozaveščati ciljne skupine in izdelati brošuro o glivah Mariborskega otoka. V Gobarskem društvu Lisička Maribor imamo z monitoringom gliv že večletne izkušnje: leta 2008 smo za Urad Vlade RS za komuniciranje ter Ministrstvo za okolje in prostor, izvedli projekt ''Glive vlažnice (Hygrocybe spp.) kot odzivni bioindikator za ohranjanje biotske raznovrstnosti'', kjer smo preučevali travniške vrste gliv. -

The life cycle of Dacrymyces stillatus is considered as representative for all members of the class. Traditional taxonomy is based on morphologcial characters. Traditional taxonomy IX. Molecular phylogenies X. Conclusions XI. References I. Introduction Dacrymycetes is a well defined class in the Agaricomycotina, Basidiomycota. The most important characteristic is the unique basidial ontogeny and morphology (Fig. 1d). Young basidia grow slightly clavate and expand apically to produce two thick, cylindrical and long sterigmata which taper abruptly to form spicula on which asymmetrically attached, large spores develop. Between the sterigmata the original apex of the young basidium remains visible, a characteristic which is 1 morphologically rather distinctive. Most species have curved-cylindrical basidiospores, typically transversely septate when mature (Fig. 1e-g). Commonly, basidiospores germinate with microconidia (Fig. 1e, f), but germ-tube formation is also widespread (Fig. 1g). Production of secondary spores is not known in the Dacrymycetales. Several species of Dacrymyces, Femsjonia, Guepiniopsis, and Calocera, which we have studied extensively in pure culture, produce limited yeast colonies, originating from microconidia (Fig. -
