Hamburg – March 10, 2014 | Among coffee pros it is universally acknowledged that MAHLKÖNIG is the byword for grinding expertise and innovation in the catering trade. Since the appearance to great acclaim of Matthew Perger at the World Brewers Cup 2012 in Vienna and the World Barista Championship 2013 in Melbourne with the MAHLKÖNIG EK43, the expertise of the Hamburg-based retail grinder manufacturer has also once again taken centre stage. October 13, 2020 – All-Stars Online and All-Stars x Barista Guild are returning for a second season, with six top-ranking World Coffee Championship (WCC) competitors coming to your screen twice-weekly, beginning next Tuesday, October 20. The All-Stars program celebrates some of the best coffee competitors in the world in a fun, engaging format, which we are adapting to bring directly to you. Each week will focus on a different All-Star from the WCC portfolio, with the World Barista Championship, World Brewers Cup, World Latte Art Championship, World Coffee Roasting Championship, and Cezve/Ibrik Championship featured this season. The program is divided into two parts: All-Stars Online and All-Stars x Barista Guild. All- Stars Online brings all the best features from the in-person All-Stars events — drinks challenges, interactive polls, and the chance to connect with the All-Stars and learn more about their careers. Appel,2,3,5 Paul K. Whelton,4 Il Suh,6 and Michael J. Klag2,3,5,7 Coffee drinking has been associated with increased serum cholesterol levels in some, but not all, studies. A Downloaded from Medline search of the English-language literature published prior to December 1998, a bibliography review, and consultations with experts were performed to identify 14 published trials of coffee consumption. Information was abstracted independently by two reviewers using a standardized protocol. With a random-effects model, treatment effects were estimated by pooling results from individual trials after weighting the results by the inverse of total variance. A dose-response relation between coffee consumption and both total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol was identified (p < 0.01). Increases in serum lipids were greater in studies of patients with http://aje.oxfordjournals.org/ hyperlipidemia and in trials of caffeinated or boiled coffee. Trials using filtered coffee demonstrated very little increase in serum cholesterol. Consumption of unfiltered, but not filtered, coffee increases serum levels of total and LDL cholesterol. EMBARGOED UNTIL THURSDAY, OCTOBER 29 Just Launched: Series 01 of The World Coffee Championship Podcast October 29, 2020 (Dublin, Ireland)—The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) has released the first episode of a new podcast dedicated to the World Coffee Championships. Across six weekly episodes, the World Coffee Championships Podcast (WCC Podcast) will offer a glimpse behind the scenes of the different World Coffee Championships, bringing to light some of the hidden stories woven in and around these annual skill-based competitions that serve as the culmination of local and regional events around the globe. This first series of episodes is the culmination of a year’s work exploring the history, impact, and evolution of the competitions through interviews with members of the large network of volunteers who make the annual events possible. The release of the series marks the first time the SCA produced a narrative, story-driven podcast, anchored by voices of the specialty coffee community. Listeners are guided through each episode by a rotating cast of coffee competition expert co-hosts who have been a part of the World Coffee Championships across local, national, and international events who join the podcast’s producer, James Harper of Filter Stories: Sara Al-Ali, Rie Moustakis, Anna Oleksak, Roukiat Delrue, Kimberly Yer, Sonja Bjork Grant, and Gloria Pedroza.
