I want to extend my sincere thanks to all of our donors for going above and beyond to support Monmouth’s programs and services over the past year, and for embracing our vision for the future. We’ve worked hard to make outstanding healthcare convenient and accessible to our growing and diverse communities. Thanks to your support, ideas and collaboration, our plans are becoming a reality that will positively impact generations for many years to come, right here in Monmouth County. To fuel our growth, MMC remained focused on providing the highest quality care available. I’m thankful to our physicians, nurses and the entire hospital staff for their shared commitment to excellence, which resulted in impressive quality achievements and program expansions, including: • The only hospital in Monmouth and Ocean counties to receive an “A” Hospital Safety Score by The Leapfrog Group, the nation’s leading experts on patient safety, for eight consecutive rating periods. • Named to Becker’s Healthcare list of Great Women’s Health Programs for breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, gynecology and women’s heart care. • The expansion of MMC’s cardiology services through the opening of the highly successful Monmouth Heart Specialists on Route 35 in Eatontown. Developed in partnership with Barnabas Health Medical Group, this state-of-the-art facility offers convenient access to top cardiac specialists and cutting-edge equipment. • As a longtime top choice for new and growing families, MMC expanded the labor and delivery unit of the Eisenberg Family Center with newly renovated birthing suites, additional triage rooms and an expansive, centrally located nurses station. • The Leon Hess Cancer Center attained American College of Surgeons—Commission on Cancer Accreditation with silver commendation and the Jacqueline M. Wilentz Comprehensive Breast Center received the Women’s Choice Award as one of America’s best breast centers for the fi fth year in a row. In 2019, we will hit the ground running as MMC’s new 36-acre parcel of land is already being cleared and prepared to construct the state-of-the-art health campus in Tinton Falls. This will include an ambulatory care center and a new and expansive cancer center in partnership with the Rutgers Cancer Institute of New Jersey, the state’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center. Led by internationally recognized physician and researcher, Steven K. Libutti, MD, FACS, Rutgers Cancer Institute is the state’s resource for and leader in cancer research, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, surveillance and survivorship. Through his leadership, Dr. Libutti has positioned Rutgers Cancer Institute as one of the top NCI-designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers in the country, and is expanding its impact throughout the RWJBarnabas Health system and the state. As we ring in the New Year, I look forward to working with all of you as vision becomes reality and our new health campus takes shape. I am truly grateful to our family of donors for your dedication, guidance and support of all that Monmouth Medical Center is and will be. Bill Arnold PRESIDENT AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER MONMOUTH MEDICAL CENTER AND THE UNTERBERG CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL MILESTONES WINTER 2018 3 4 MILESTONES WINTER 2018 Message from the Foundation Leadership Dear Friends, Monmouth Medical Center serves our community by empowering donors and our neighbors to transform healthcare in Monmouth County and the surrounding areas. Over the past several years, the Foundation has been leveraging philanthropy as a means to providing world-class medical services to our community. This year, Monmouth Medical Center Foundation will support a wide range of initiatives. The near future sees the funding of programs, services and the clinical teams as a reality. Looking forward, we plan to invest in a new and innovative medical campus situated in Tinton Falls, as well as several satellite centers devoted to primary and ambulatory care. Accessibility to exceptional healthcare is a priority. Without the support and engagement of our donors, our partners in philanthropy, businesses, and supportive non-profi t organizations, none of these accomplishments will be realized. As the newly appointed Chair of the Board, I am optimistic about the future of healthcare in our region. Together with Tara Kelly, Foundation VP, and the Monmouth Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees, we plan to create a solid infrastructure for trustees and staff by streamlining our procedural support systems. This will serve as a means to accomplishing clear and concise communication, and will allow MMCF to properly present the goals and vision of Monmouth Medical Center/RWJ Barnabas Health to you, our community members. We are proud of the Foundation’s accomplishments this past year in ensuring a brighter, healthier tomorrow for all residents of Monmouth County and beyond, as noted in the following pages. As 2018 comes to a close, we are grateful to you for your compassion and your philanthropy, which fuels the work of the physicians and the clinical teams here at Monmouth Medical Center. Best wishes for a happy and healthy holiday season!
